Apple issues support article to address purple light flare from iPhone 5 camera

Apple has issued a support article to address the mounting concern over the strange purple light being found on numerous photographs taken with the iPhone 5’s camera. The problem shows on the photographs as a purple flare on the edge of a picture or as an actual purple spot in the main frame of the picture. Apple’s support article addresses these issues and claims there is nothing to worry about.

iOS 7 wants: Better App Store search usability

With iOS 6, Apple has totally changed the way search results appear in the on-device App Store app. With the old App Store search, five results were immediately visible in a list view, and you could vertically scroll or flick quickly through large amounts more. With the new iOS 6 App Store search, only one result is visible at a time, and you whether you scroll or flick, you only ever get one result more at a time. And that's not good.

Foxconn’s iPhone 5 factory workers strike over high quality demands and holiday working [Updated]

Foxconn workers at its Zhengzhou factory supposedly held a strike yesterday involving three to four thousand iPhone 5 production line workers. The strike was apparently called because workers were unhappy with being asked to work during holidays and overly strict demands on product quality without necessary training; the news comes from a report by China Labor Watch.

4G vs. 3G on EE's new LTE network in the UK - on the iPhone 5 of course

Earlier this week, we brought you a video of me going hands on with the iPhone 5 on EE's new 4G LTE network which goes live in the UK on October 30th. I thought it may be interesting to run some 4G speed tests alongside 3G just so those of you that will switch from either an Orange or T-Mobile contract over to an EE one can see what you will be getting. Price plans have not yet been announced, which it a bit of a shame. However, it will be interesting to see if EE charge any extra for the LTE service.

The Lightning Dock for iPhone 5 looks to fill the void left by Apple

One of the big disappointments for many when the iPhone 5 was released was the news that Apple would not be making a dock for their latest creation. It has been a big concern to many who like to have their iPhone 5 standing upright by the side of their bed or on their desk with easy viewing distance. Thankfully we now have an option to get a dock for the iPhone 5 and its called the Lightning Dock.

iOS 7 wants: Ability to mute alerts when on a call

Since the early days of the iPhone, we've received a steady stream of complaints about how alerts are handled when you're on a call. Namely, you can have the phone to your ear, chatting away, when suddenly a text message comes in and the tone and/or vibrate goes off full blast into your ear and rattles through your skull. Since push notifications launched for 3rd party apps, especially the trumpeting horror that is Game Center, it's only gotten worse. If you're not used it to and expecting it, it can make you want to drop your phone and start stomping. That's only mild hyperbole, mind you, as that's exactly what several significant others have told us, with rage-filled eyes, after it happened to them for the first time.

While some people may want to make absolutely sure they don't miss an important alert while on a phone call, and are willing to pay the price in low-yield skull trauma, others would pay a significant amount of money for the option to turn it off.

Is Apple jamming too much new product into our hands this Fall?

This Fall season, Apple is busier than ever before. Back in 2010, Apple had their product launches spaced out. Spring saw the original iPad. Summer had the iPhone 4 in its traditional spot. Fall saw new iPods. This year, however, they just finished rolling out the iPhone 5 and iOS 6, and they’ve given us impressive new updates to the iPod lineup as well, mirroring many of the updates in the iPhone 5. Soon enough it looks like we’ll be seeing the iPad mini announced.
