iTunes 10.1.1 causing install problems, crash bugs?

We've gotten emails, comments, even angry ALL CAPS shouts during iPhone Live's chat, that some users aren't able to install today's iTunes 10.1.1 update through Software Update, while others who are able to install can't launch it without it crashing.

For both bugs try going to and download the latest version directly.

iTunes 10.1.1 causing install problems, crash bugs?

i updated and then couldn't relaunch itunes. so i called apple and they got me to trash itunes and reinstall it from the apple website and everything is working fine now. but it should of worked in the first place of course and was a pain in the ass to have to reinstall. thankfully all my playlists and play counts were unaffected.

I went to install the newest version on a friends computer and it failed through the updating software. Worked fine through the site.
Once it updated it started up just fine too.

Loaded on windows xp without a hitch. I have just noticed something on my iPod touch. If you hold an app down like you going to delete it, I have to push the home button three or more times to have the touch go back to normal. That may be a bug in 4.2.1

Attention - “iTunes 10.1.1 is not causing install problems, crash bugs?” this is another reason I need to get into the IT business - and - why people from foreign countries that have never drive before shouldn't be given drivers licenses...

Yep! I also downloaded and installed the update today okay, but when I tried to launch iTunes, it tells me that some of it's components are missing and that I need to reinstall.
So I went to Apple's website and downloaded iTune, then ran the installation.... and... Whew! It worked!

Installed with no problem but I went from 9 GB free to 17 GB free. Nothing seems to be missing? What happened?

I used iTunes updatter and it worked fin for me hopfuly it fixed the problems I was having with Syncing ect.

Update worked fine on MBP and iMac. Windows 7 was a more painful experience. The Windows update made me reboot my computer and then when I started iTunes I got a message about a QuickTime failure and iTunes would not start. I ultimately had to separately download QT and run it to repair the prior QT installation that had screwed up something.
Why hasn't Apple killed iTunes/QT and replaced it with usable software?

Installed through updater and it worked fine. No problems running iTunes after the upgrade! Windows 7.....

Update broke iTunes. (MacBook Pro, 10.6.5). Reinstall from Apple iTunes web site abs all is well.

Thanks when i updated and i launched itunes it broke but now after installing a fresh one from apple site it works just fine :)

I had the crashing issue today after Software update installation. I'm just trying to download through the website. Here's the error details [if you could understand it]

Solution found: Just download and install iTunes from scratch from apple website. That's all. It worked for me and now my iTunes is up and running!

I can no longer connect to Apple TV or Airport express to play music. I get an (unknown) error message from iTunes. Anyone seen this ?

I updated on my pc and my mac. The Pc windows 7 updated fine and worked after the update with no issues.
I updated the Mac Laptop with system 10.6.5 and it broke when I went to start itunes after the update. Came up with an error message.
Went to and downloaded and installed it with full installer from the apple site. Itunes started working fine again after that install. I thought Macs were always suppose to work and not crash like windows!!

Had this problem when reinstalling from inside iTunes--process to download and reinstall new version stoned fine but then could not start iTunes due to error regarding missing files. Ended up downloading iTunes from and selecting I wanted to “repair” the files when running the install package. Everything is now working fine. (Note: I use Windows Pro XP.)

after the update iTunes, which included a Quicktime update, iTunes will not start, got the following message "Quicktime is missing". I downloaded Quicktime, which fixed the iTune not starting problem. It then told me that an iTune update was available, so I let it update. But now I am back to square one, & iTunes will not start & I get the following message "iTune files are missing. I am not very happy about this at all. Now having to download a reinstall iTunes, I just hope I don't loose all of my music.

I have tried to install the update 10.1.1 several times, trough the update in i tune and directly from the web site. The message i get 3/4 of the way trough the download is to close i tune for the installation to continue. I did not have i tune open and the only option is "to close the installation". I never get past this point. Do I have to remove i tune first? I have mac book pro and i phone which is not synchronising any longer with i tune, can't download photo from i phone to iphoto....nothing, that's why I am trying the to download the latest version in case that what is causing the synchronisation problem. Help, what's next to try??

Itunes V10.1.1 freezes when I attach my old Ipod or my brand new Ipad, running Vista on a Toshiba. My computer recognizes both devices are attached. Apple techies spent about 6 hours trouble shooting and downloading fresh copies with no avail. I have spent about 20 hours with no solution so far!!!!! I've run out of options anyone got any suggestions?

I have the problem with iTunes crashing after the update to 10.1.1, I uninstalled iTunes from my windows PC, reinstalled iTunes from the apple site and I am still experiencing the same issue...iTunes crashes when it tries to open.
