How to Guides Galore: Jailbreaking iPhone 2.2.1

iPhone 2.0 Jailbreak and Unlock Pirate

With all of this Jailbreak talk going on lately, what better time to let all of you wanna-be Jailbreakers know that all of our how to guides are completely up to date for firmware 2.2.1. For some people, getting into the world of Jailbreaking can be confusing and that is completely understandable. TiPb wants to make it as cut and dry as humanly possible for you. So here we go.

So you have a iPhone 3G that you will want to unlock? Ok, in order for that to happen you must use our preserving baseband guide which can be found here. Currently only Mac users can use this method, sorry Windows faithful. It is also important to note that you must be on anything but the 2.2.1 firmware (2.2 or earlier) in order to be able to unlock your iPhone 3G with the Dev Teams Yellowsn0w.

Ok, here is another one for all of the Mac users out there. You have a first generation iPhone or an iPhone 3G and all you care about is simply Jailbreaking. Well then you would use the Mac QuickPWN method. It is important to remember, use this method only if you are not interested in unlocking your iPhone.

No, we have not forgotten about Windows how to guides. You say you have a first generation iPhone that you want Jailbroken and unlocked? This is the guide you would use to get that taken care of right here.

iPhone 3G owners who want to Jailbreak, it is pretty simply - check out this guide and you are good to go.

So there you have it, all of TiPb how to guides updated for 2.2.1.

Can anyone tell me a USB-hub which WORKS as a work-a-round for the Mac OSX 10.5.6 DFU problem and the website of a UK retailer where I can buy it. TIA
I've already tried one and it didn't work.

I've had no problem with a Belkin 7 port I picked up from Dell, or some no-name brand I picked up from Best Buy. (both powered hubs)
What problem did you have, and are you sure it was the hub?

I updated my Macbook to 10.5.6 without knowing what problems it would cause. When I tryed to jailbreak my iPhone 3G I got until it starts to transfer the first file to the iPhone but it gets stuck there and iTunes pops up saying something like: "An iPod has been identified in DFU mode but cannot be recognized. Please reconnect it." (I noticed this was the message other people were getting with the DFU problem.) I could get the iPhone to work again by just quitting Quickpwn and turning the iPhone 3G back on again.
When I used the USB-hub the same thing happened (on numerous trys).

@iphone novice
i approve of the content - this site made us all aware Apple does not want you jail breaking its product as it violates copyrights. TiPB blogged this last week.
Apple has released updates in efforts to make this more difficult. As such, you are now all on notice that continuing to jailbreak puts you at risk of going to jail.

@Mariah Carey, no one will go to jail for Jailbreaking. It is not illegal. Apple said it should be illegal. Fact is, you paid for the device. You have every right to do what you want with it. Whether that is take it apart, throw it in the air and let it smash to the ground, or Jailbreak it. It is yours to do so freely.

I have a late 2008 Macbook, so I know I am unable to jailbreak my iPhone 3g on it. Even though my iPhone is synced with the Macbook, can I jailbreak it on a PC then still sync it with the Mac?

Really enjoyed the info. The process worked beautifully. Quick and painless, just as I wanted my first jailbreak experience!

I succesfully "jailbroke" my 3g vs 2.2.1 and everything worked however I lost my contacts and my mail settings

Does anyone know how to reverse the jailbreak on the iphone 3G. Is it true that I can just restore the phone in itunes and the jailbreak is reversed?

Man, talk about a wonderful post! I’ve stumbled across your blog a few times within the past, but I usually forgot to save it. But not again! I use both phones HTC Inspire 4G and Apple iPhone 4... they all are nice, what Tom put is good, but... both phone have battery problems, I like the HTC because I can use the 4.3 screen in comfort and the iPhone have the comfort of their apps... but, iPhone 4 have battery problems, the worse part is that you can't change the battery when it run out of juice... you then have to switch to HTC to continue your meeting with... as with the HTC, it also have battery problems, but the good part is, I have 3 spare batteries, I can always change them when my battery run out of juice... I think HTC is better for people who are Road Warriors, iPhone is for... anyway...
