Letterpress is a wonderful, widely successful word game for iPhone and iPad created by iMore hall-of-famer Loren Brichter. Letterpress is an asynchronous turn-based game where two players compete to take over a grid covered in letters. Matchmaking and turn-taking are handled by Apple's Game Center. When you create a word the letter tiles that form that word gain your color. When your opponent creates a word the letter tiles gain their color. If either of you can surround a letter of your color with other letters of your color, it'll become darker and won't change color until at least one of the surrounding letters have been changed first.
Brichter created Letterpress after going out with his wife and, while waiting to be seated at a restaurant, realized he wanted a game that the two of them could play in a quick, turn-based manner. Letterpress has gone on to received recognition and acclaim both from Apple and from the gaming community at large.
Letterpress is free but unlimited multiple simultaneous games, played words, and additional themes can be unlocked for a one-time in-app purchase (IAP) of $1.99.
