Apple currently makes both portable and desktop versions of the Mac. For portables, there's the ultra-light MacBook Air line, and the ultra-powerful MacBook Pro line. For desktops, there's entry-level Mac mini, workstation-level Mac Pro, and the all-in-one iMac. Running on all of them is OS X, and its current version, Mountain Lion (10.8).

Feral Interactive has released XCOM: Enemy Unknown for the Mac. The turn-based tactical role-playing game, originally developed by Firaxis, appears in a Mac-exclusive "Elite Edition" that combines previously-released downloadable content including the Slingshot and Elite Soldier Packs along with the Second Wave update.

GOG adds 22 more Mac games

The folks at GOG.com have added 22 games to their roster of downloadable titles for the Mac, including vintage classics like Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger and The 7th Guest, plus more recent fare like the 3D platformer Psychonauts and Runic's hack-and-slash dungeon crawler Torchlight.

Mac sales down slightly, but PC sales down much more

There wasn't great news for Mac enthusiasts in Apple's latest quarterly earnings report - Mac sales are actually down year over year. Apple sold 3.952 million Macs this past quarter, compared to 4.017 million for the same quarter a year ago.

Logitech adds gaming keyboards and mice for Mac users

Peripheral maker Logitech has long sold gaming products for PC gamers - mice, keyboards, game controllers and headphones - and recently grouped the products more formally under the "Logitech G" brand. Logitech's new G lineup includes six redesigned mice and keyboards which hit store shelves later this month. Now Logitech has announced Mac support for them.

Tim Cook says Apple still doesn't care if they cannibalize their own products

Apple cuts price of Thunderbolt cable and introduces a shorter model

Apple has cut the price of its original 2-meter Thunderbolt cable from $49 to $39. They have also introduced a shorter 0.5-meter version that's available for just $29. The Thunderbolt cable is used with compatible Apple computers for super fast data transfer speeds that are up to twice as fast as USB 3.0 and up to 12 times faster than FireWire 800.
