Now that Apple's on an iOS-like yearly update schedule for the Mac's OS X operating system, it'd be big news if we didn't start to see traces of the next version, OS X 10.9, start appearing in server logs sometime that is soonish. Well, no cause for concern, because the next big cat is out of the bag and stealthily surfing the web.

Apple has begun sending out invitations to select members of the media for their upcoming October 23 special event, widely considered to be focused on the iPad and Macs.

If you picked up a new iPhone 5, did your iCloud, and something's still missing, you might have to move the data over manually. Likewise, if you set your iPhone 5 up as a new device but still want to keep data from a few apps or games, you'll have to move it over manually. iCloud and iTunes are great, but they're not granular.

If you use a Mac, an app like Ecamm's PhoneView is an excellent option. It'll let you browser your old iOS device, copy off just the data you want, and then copy it back to your new iPhone 5. And it's fairly straightforward to do.

Apple made a few new initiatives yesterday on the sly amid the WWDC day one insanity, including a new iPad case, but they also started a back-to-school promotion that goes from now until September 21.

Yet another big announcement from WWDC today is a whole bunch of new apps for OSX Mountain Lion that are synced over iCloud to their counterparts on iOS. They include Messages (with iMessage support), Reminders, Notes, and a new app called Documents to the Cloud. There's a developer SDK that will allow third parties to similarly tie their mobile apps to their desktop versions.

The highly anticipated FTP client, code editor, CSS editor, and previewer, Diet Code for iPad has hit the App Store. Now you can make quick edits to your website while on the go or on vacation.

Last week, during Apple's Q2 2012 financial results conference call, CEO Tim Cook said that, in terms of sales, the iPad achieved in just 2 years what took the iPhone 3 years, the iPod 5 years, and the Mac 20+ years.

I'll let that the idea of that Aventador-esque acceleration curve sink in for a moment while I digress into nostalgia.
