Official Twitter for iOS app updated with smarter search filters, TV trends, more

The official Twitter for iOS app has been updated with a new way to better filter search results, hopefully to get you closer to what you want, faster. Esteban Kozak writes on the Twitter blog:

If you want to see great photos, use the new photo search filter to see Tweets with photos in a grid or list layout. To see what your friends are saying, you can filter the results to only show Tweets from the people you follow. You can even filter for videos, making it feel like you’re a part of the action on Twitter.

They're also better surfacing trends about TV shows. If you don't use Twitter yet, grab it from the App Store now. If you do, there's an update waiting for you. Let me know how you like it!

Agh! This is so evil... I was gonna quickly browse around and see what's up... 15 minutes later I have to make myself stop!
Argh!

Love updates. Especially if it's a Twitter update. I would like it if we had the option for a dark theme.

Dark theme would be sweet. Hopefully that ends up being an option in a future update

Twitter for iPhone is close and is now even closer to being the perfect twitter client/app. The new search results filter bridges the gap between a web experience vs a mobile experience in that they can both be simple. Wish there was a light/dark theme option and a quicker way to access lists!

One Thind I love about the official twitter app is how they are always updating and trying to improve the app. I wish Facebook would do this more.

I havent used the Official Twitter since the 4s came out. Maybe its time to take it for a spin again.

I've always only used the "stock" official Twitter app. It's always been good for me, simple to use and reliable.

But I only have 1 account and don't need to manage several accounts...

Same with me. It just works for me.
Although I haven't had the chance to try third-party Twitter apps so I don't really know what I'm missing.

My updates always come a day later after iMore posts them. Even if I try opening the App Store. Waaaaah. Thanks for the heads up though lol.

Seems like the twitter app keeps getting better and better! Now they add more features and more often then ever before. I'm all about tweetbot but might give this app a try and see how it goes.

Still for some reason it has a low rating in the AppStore. I guess people is not liking all the "complicated" features.

I don't like the font or theme look when you click on a tweet. It is different from the rest of the app theme. Kind of interesting that Twitter did that.

BeyondtheTech says:

Nothing beats the native app. Glad to see they're not slowing down development and resting on their laurels. Probably all related to the drive of the stockholders.

Everytime I see the badge icon of App Store I think "yay! It's Whatsapp??" And no, still not. I'm kind of losing hope with this...

I agree. Whatsapp desperately needs an update to the iOS 7 look. Its one of my most used apps for conversing with people out of the country that don't use iMessage, but I cringe every time I use it.

I agree that the official app keeps improving and I like it very much, but I still think it needs 2 things: the ability to load more tweets at a time and synchronization across platforms. I don't like having to pick up hours ago on my iPad after having read the same tweets on my iPhone.

Pat Trudeau says:

They really need to blow this app up and start from scratch. When you use a third party Twitter client like Tweetbot 3 and then go back to Twitter.app you realize how poorly thought out the app is. Instead of continuing to add features they need to focus on usability.

Its a lot better then where it was before but I completely agree with you. I have used the stock twitter app cause I didn't see any use out the paid apps then I decided to suck it up and buy Tweetbot then got Tweetbot 3 and now I can never go back :)

DarkMx2000 says:

For a stock Twitter app it with the IOS 7 theme it looks and is getting a lot better but it still can't match up to Tweetbot or Tweetbot 3 :)

I had been using the official twitter app a little but after the update to tweetbot 3 I haven't used the official app. I might have to give it another try.

So far so good. Working great and it seems much faster than previous version.

G.4 says:

So far so good. Only wish the text wasn't so small. I love the look and feel and quick access to favorite, re tweet, and reply buttons. But the text size makes Tweetbot 3 much more enjoyable to use

Love tweetbot as my main twitter client, but I'm impressed more and more by the stock twitter client with each update. Really great to keep all developers interested in constantly improving apps.

i used to not like the official app and bought tweetbot. But recently i found myself using the official app for an hour without issue. never would have happened before. That showed me that now i use it as my main twitter app.

marzjones says:

Hate that they won't allow you to change the font size anymore. Major blow to a decent app.

I'm not sure if i like this update or not. It does make it feel more iOS 7-like, but i feel like they are trying to hard and making the app even more complicated to use.
