Philips Hue smart lighting system to get LightStrips and Bloom bulbs

Philips Hue, the home lighting system you can control with your iOS device, is set to expand its portfolio by adding LightStrips and Bloom bulbs to the range. According to Matt Brian at The Verge:

The flexible LightStrips come in two-meter lengths and are designed to be placed around frames or to accentuate fixtures in the home. The Bloom is a portable lamp and features a 120 lumen LED bulb that highlights specific places or objects in a room. Both products have been available in different forms but Philips has integrated the ZigBee LightLink wireless standard and incorporated them into the Hue family.

The new products will reportedly go on sale in Apple Retail Stores and the online Apple Store in the coming weeks. The LightStrips are said to cost $89.95 with the Bloom bulb setting you back $79.95. Both are also said to require you already have the Philips Hue starter kit, so these are more of an add-on rather than a full system.

So what about it Hue owners, do either of these sound enticing to you?

Update: As written by Engadget, these are now official and will be available from the Apple Store this Thursday. Prices are still as above, and a little more has emerged on the LightStrips. They'll come with a self-adhesive backing and can be cut to size to fit around anything you see fit. Who's buying?

Philips Hue smart lighting system to get LightStrips and Bloom bulbs

$80 for just the bulb is nuts. I'd be interest in something like this if it were about 1/3 of the price.

I love Hue. I think I have 12 of the original bulbs now. I don't think I'll get any LightStrips because they look purely decorative at this point and not something I'd need.

I'll almost certainly get the Bloom for my podcast studio, looks great!

I love hue, too. I've got two dozen bulbs and, although pricey, they add a huge amount of ambiance while being usable by visitors to the house just like any other light bulb. I like them so much I incorporated them into my iOS app (Snoozy).

I expect the bulb prices to come down eventually, and plain-Jane bulbs will be a thing we tell our grandkids about.

I love my Hue lights. I think the strips would be cool under the bar and the blooms might be neat over art. We'll see!

I picked up two bloom and two strips today and added to my living room, which had three hue bulbs. The bloom and strip are awesome - the colors they make are much richer, particularly green, blue and yellow.
