Poll: What's the number one reason you Jailbreak?

What's the main reason you Jailbreak your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad? Is it for themes, so you can change up the whole look and feel of your device? Is it to unlock so you can run it on T-Mobile or travel internationally? Is it convenience, so SBSettings and BiteSMS can keep you going faster? Is t coolness, so you can show your friends the icons rolling around your screen or how you can turn your device off like an old TV? Is it Tethering, because you feel like you've already paid your carrier once for that data? Is it functionality, because you want your screen projected or recorded?

Maybe it's all or most of the above, but if you had to pick just one Jailbreak feature that's most important to you, what would it be?

Poll: What's the number one reason you Jailbreak?

you haven't mentioned the obviously number one reason people jailbreak... to install pirate copies of apps.

I like activator actions like pinch to sleep or swipe right on status bar to show app switcher, I like double tapping clock to kill all background apps, I like to remove voice mail from my phone app, I like taping on Facebook app icon to Launch Facebook website instead of the native app, I like to make my alerts look black, I like launching the calculator from lockscreen by swiping down I like showing now playing bar first at the app switcher, I like to have web os cards like when multitasking And I like to have favorite paste list

The only non-market app I have installed is activator: So I can unlock my iPad by double clicking the home button rather than swiping.

  1. tether, tether, tether. I use it so sparingly, but when I do it's a life saver. Definitely, not worth the extra $ though.
  2. lockinfo
  3. sbsettings

Sbsetting, bite SMS,folderenhancer, winterboard, fullscreen safari etc...there a lot of functionality that jailbreak provides and which I would not even consider an iphone if I could not jailbreak...ios lacks a lot of features that are important to me...

Being able to Facetime my kids when I'm out of town anywhere I'm at - Priceless (3G Unrestrictor), Blocking solicitor telephone calls (iBlacklist)

This is my exact same reason. I dont care about pirated apps, speed, etc. All i want is a different "professional" sounding text tone.
6 people in my office have iphones and everybody uses basicallly the same text tone because its the only one that sounds "professional" . Everytime one of us gets a text, everyone has to look at their phone. Its irritating and a horrible oversight by Apple.

Since the battery is the main issue for my iphone 3GS, I really wanted the SBSettings for easy and fast access to Location and Blutooth toggles

99 cents? I paid for all of those. Its the 59.95 navigation app, the 12.99 organization app, and all the 2,3 ,4 and 5 dollar apps that just simply are not worth it, just like paying $1290 for 1000 songs from itunes when its free if your not an Apple Fanboy.

BTW, the reason I Jailbroke is to control my phone the way I want, and not the way Steve Jobs tells me it should work. iOS 5??? No thanks, I would rather not downgrade my current version when everything included in iOS 5 is already on my phone through Cydia.

Bite SMS, iFile, SBSettings, MyWi, Activator, Remove Background, Themes, Free Apps, Wireless Syncing, Barrel, Gridlock, Folder Enhancer, Five Row Dock, Enhanced Settings, Sleep FX, LOCK INFO, ICONOCLASM, Safari Download Manager, Winterboard...... What else do you want to know?
Basically, I jailbroke because I can't stand the Restrictions that Apple puts on their devices simply because the average consumer can't figure out how to use any of the above items.

MailEnhancer is the only jailbreak app I can't live without. I use my personal phone for work, so the ability to have multiple email signatures is something I couldn't live without. It seeks like such a simple feature that you take for granted on any other platform but is missing from ios.

I first jailbroke because my iPhone 3G froze to a solid white screen. I thought to myself, if it froze without jailbreak, then theres no reason not to jailbreak it.
I did and it hasnt frozen ever since, thanks to sbsettings process-killing.

When I buy a book I can use it however I want, same with my $50 lamp, my $75 watch, my sunglasses but not so with my $500 iPhone. It's my property, I'm not leasing it like I do my Dish network equipment or a car that needs to be returned in mint condition. I own it I want to use it however I want. I remember a motorola flip phone I owned that camw with Bluetooth but Verizon locked it down so only a Bluetooth headphone worked via Bluetooth...I jail broke because I hate that they limit it's functionality.

Other...i need a call blocking program like iBlacklist...only available via jailbreak. Mywi is number 2.

come on stwrtr! You are kidding yourself if you think people do not install pirate copies of games worth 99 cents as well games worth 59.99. I agree with the commentator below that it's hardly worth the effort to install a 99 cent game illegally, but it happens, and piracy is definately the number one reason people jailbreak. I also love all the tweaks cydia offers of course! Would be lost without sbsetting!

the first reason to jailbreak an IOS device is breaking Jail!!!
jailbreak means increasing functionality
when ur apps have root access manything happens far better
just this!

Bonjour, voila que je lance le jaerbliak et il s'arrete en me disant No identifying data fetched Quelqu'un sait il m'aider d'avance un grand merci

While this is a problem that any video conferencing product will encounter, there are various approaches that can "get around" port forwarding problems.
