How to prevent your friends from checking you into Facebook Places
Facebook Places not only lets you "check in" to various locations (a la Foursquare or Gowalla) but it allows your friends to check you in as well, which could be a little creepy. Luckily for those of us who prefer to keep where we are private, our good friend Phil Nickinson from Android Central tells us how to "just. stop. it.":
You can disable that "feature" now by going into your privacy settings. Hit the "customize" link, scroll down to the "things other share" section, and disable the "Friends can check me into places" feature."
Fortunately, the first time anyone tries to check you in you'll get an email notification, but if you prefer to do your own dang checking in, thank you very much, follow Phil's advice up top.

I think the main FB site is still tweaking it. But thank god for that privacy setting. Although I can't wait to check my buddy in at a strip club. LMAO
Freaking updated and now I can’t even log in. Says it’s unable to connect to facepoop!! WTF!!! Works fine on my kids iPod 2G but won’t work on my iPhone 4. I even deleted restarted the phone and installed it again. Still wont work.

@ chiapet @got2bjey if your using bitesms you have to disable bitesmsbs in SBS settings/addons respring and it will work fine...
This is concerning, and seems to lead back to the same privacy challenges that Facebook has encountered in the past. Everyone should have to overtly opt in to this. Otherwise, it poses a potential safety threat. I'm not a fan of the feature, if everyone who wants to maintain their privacy must actively opt out.
I agree with GraysonIP. FB continues to opt it's users in to sharing their personal info in a sneaky way. That is not only a privacy concern that's just shady. I wouldn't have even known about deactivating that if it wasn't for this article. Thanks TIPB for looking out for us!
