Redsn0w updated to support iOS 5 GM Jailbreak
It hasn't even been a full day since Apple seeded iOS 5 GM to developers, but the iPhone Dev-Team has already updated Redsn0w to fully support the gold-master release.
redsn0w has been updated to 0.9.9b3 to auto-detect iOS5 GM firmware. Remember: it’s still tethered for all devices except for iPhone 3GS with old bootrom. If you don’t use redsn0w to “Just boot” at power up, all jailbreak apps (and even some native ones like MobileSafari) will fail to launch.
If you already jailbroke the GM by pointing an older redsn0w at the beta7 IPSW, there’s no need to re-run the full jailbreak step again…just use this newer one to make the tethered boot easier
The following devices are supported under Redsn0w 0.9.9b3a.
- iPod touch 3G
- iPod touch 4G
- iPad 1
- iPhone3GS
- iPhone4 (GSM)
- iPhone4 (CDMA)
It's important to note that this does not support unlocking your iPhone, and those requiring an unlock should stay away from iOS 5 completely until an unlock is available. Additionally, this is still a tethered jailbreak (unless you're on an older bootrom) which means you'll have to plug it into your computer each time a reboot is needed.
We'll have a full how-to up shortly to help you through the steps of jailbreaking under iOS 5 GM.

If these jailbreaks don't work for iPad 2, things don't look good for iPhone 4S.
i belive it works for ipad 2 or that have ipad 2 exploit that could work for iPhone 4S so they havent used it yet so no last minute patchs can debunk thier work
It would be nice to get an untethered version out. I'll have to wait to get the iPhone 4S I guess. For now beta 7 works great on my 3GS
So no support for the iPad baseband :(
Quick question...
Why the need to jailbreak an iPhone?
Fear not I used to jailbreak my own 3G back in the day (I quickly returned to stock for stability). My wife currently doesn't care for her iPhone 4 to be jailbroken. The Android I use daily is not rooted (been there done that too). It's curious to me in this age of these phones doing 'everything' that we still have a subset that says it's not right unless you jailbreak/root it.
The fact that jailbreak/root is still as passionately used & advocated on the blogs, not by the general public at large mind you, tells me these phones still aren't perfect.
I think much of it stems from the open source model of things which I really like because the boys who develop for cydia have great apps. The truth iss that some one always likes to change something. Rooting / jailbreaking offer that such possibility.
Just installed iOS 5 on my iPhone 4S and I'm not at all impressed. There's nothing really special about it. So I have the upgraders remorse...
