Retina iPad mini hands on photos

It's here! And by here, this time we mean it's in our hot little hands! We've managed – somehow – to snag a launch day Retina iPad mini in the ever wonderful Space Grey color. I've not even managed to get it home yet, but first things first, a few hands on snapshots! It's fresh out of the box, and immediately one thing is clear; that display is stunning.

We'll be spending a lot more time with the Retina iPad mini over the coming days, so keep it locked to iMore for all the best. For some more hands on pictures, keep on scrolling a little further.

Retina iPad mini hands on photos

In a double blind study, is it possible to tell the difference between the iPad air and iPad mini with retina screens? Like, I know that the iPad mini with retina has a higher pixel density, but is it noticeably better? I love my air, but I am kind of jealous that the retina mini has 326 PPI.

My eyes are wayyyy too tired for that. If you look really closely then maybe, and if you're holding both right up to your face then maybe you can notice a little. Held at regular usage difference I don't think you can really tell.

Next to the OG mini though...well!

Thank you...this is the answer I wanted to hear. The worst thing you could have said is "I've held the air, and the retina mini...and there is no competition! The retina mini blows the air's display out of the water."

So it is marginally better. Then I'm sticking with my Air. TBH, I wouldn't mind an 11inch "iPad Pro" model.

iPhone/iPod apps such as the iMore app look beautiful in double-size mode on the iPad Air (and automatically open in the 2x size). I can't imagine they look much better on the Retina Mini since they are nearly as nice on the old Mini as on my current iPad Air.

The iPad mini seems to be the perfect everyday computing device. It's the best mix of mobility and computing power IMHO. Dear Santa.....

What is the chance that Apple will drop the pice for Black Friday, and that's why they released it now. To get the max amount of dollars from people before the sale?

If I remember correctly, Apple didn't discount the iPad mini last year for Black Friday. Of course, Apple does what it wants and sets fire to precedents.

the best discounts will be store discounts where you get credit....Target already announced a Ipad Air deal and get a $100 gift card....gonna hop on that if I can wake myself up

Oh my goodness, I still don't know if I want the iPad air or the mini with retina!! They both look so nice!!! Which would you go with?

Richard, I'm looking forward to your impressions on Retina Mini speed v. iPad Air speed. I've seen quite a bit of debate on that already though just from the specs I can't imagine there is any readily discernible difference. And, yes, you have nice nails.

Thanks for posting these. It is one thing to see photos of a product on the product website but entirely different to see it in the "real world" with someone holding it to get an idea of the color, size and thickness.
