Spacebase DF-9 sim game released through Steam Early Access

Double Fine Productions - the developer behind Psychonauts, Brütal Legend and other fine games - has released a new game called Spacebase DF-9, a simulation game set in outer space where you build a space station for humans and aliens. The game is still in development, but is already getting an early release through Steam as part of Steam's Early Access program. It's available for Mac, Windows and Linux.

A sort of SimCity in space, Spacebase DF-9 has you laying out the basics for your space station, providing suitable accommodations designed to meet all the needs of wayward space travelers. You mine asteroids for resources, discover derelicts and handle crises like meteor impacts, explosive decompression and the occasional alien invasion.

It strikes me as an odd to have *alpha* access to a game & the pricing is weird. That being said, I'm an old fart that used to buy software on the shelves in CompUSA. This has a very Kickstarter type feel to it with the pricing and rewards and it is fun to be involved in the beginning of the project. I will be signing up as a "breather" and checking it out. It looks 'cute' for lack of a better description and I like those more casual style of games.
