Apple iPad crushing competition in consumer demand and customer satisfaction ratings

Despite growing competition as new tablets begin to enter the market, Apple's iPad is still king when it comes to consumer demand and customer satisfaction according to a recent ChangeWave survey.

The new research, which surveyed a total of 3,091 consumers just prior to Apple announcing the iPad 2, confirms the new tablet market has drawn high demand from consumers around the world, with a large majority interested in the iPad specifically. According to the survey, 82% of consumers planning on buying a tablet in the near future will be opting for an iPad, compared to the closest competition, the Motorola Xoom, coming in at only 4%.

On the customer satisfaction front the iPad garnered outstanding numbers among current owners, with 70% being 'very satisfied' with their purchase and 25% being 'somewhat satisfied'. Apple has always done well on the customer satisfaction so we're not surprised with these results. In addition to high customer satisfaction ratings, it looks like the iPad has continued to steal market share from eBook readers like the Amazon Kindle and further suggests the iPad has had a growing impact on netbook and notebook sales.

What does this all mean for Apple? Lack of competition for the original iPad meant their was nothing to stop them from establishing a dominant position in the tablet market. While the survey was conducted jbefore Apple even announced the iPad 2, we have a strong suspicion Apple won't have any trouble keeping a strong foothold and shaking off competitors throughout 2011.

With the iPad 2 launching tomorrow in the US and other countries shortly after, do you think Apple has anything to worry about going forward? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Without competition, the iPad can stall on all it's capabilities, for now. I still feel like Apple hasn't brought out the big guns for the iPad as of yet.
Then again, can't wait to get my hand on a UK release for the iPad 2. :D

treats says:

This survey is complete fail. Who cares what 3,000 people want, can even half of them afford to buy ANY of these devices? Now I would CURRENTLY buy an iPad 2 over any other tablet, but I still don't like fanboyism. Android is now #1 market share in the US for OS, how long until the tablets catch up to?

MILE says:

That's how surveys work -- since you can't ask every single person in the country you select a representative portion of people with whom you then conduct the survey…! And as such surveys go, 3000 is plenty…

Homer Simpson says:

While I can appreciate your hatred towards fanboyism, it's easy to gain marketshare when 10 different companies flood the market with cheaply made android devices.
A quick reality check reveals that iPhone is a top tier device and is only in direct competition with top tier android phones like the EVO and Droid. If this (or any) survey showed the marketshare of top tier android phones with iPhones, Apple would clearly have a very comfortable lead. You can take this philosophy and apply it to Pads/tablets too.

JERRY says:

If you look at the numbers .. The best selling ANdroid phones are not the cheap ones.. it's the EVO's Droids and the Galaxy. Your theory is flawed

I want to know why the Playbook is even listed? Furthermore who answered for the Playbook? It's not even to market. Survery seems odd due to that.

Simon says:

Come o!
How much bull is this!
The blackberry playbook isn't even out yet! And it's already got 3% ?.??
Can't really be up to much!

"The blackberry playbook isn’t even out yet! And it’s already got 3% ?.??"
No. Look again. The title of the graph says 'Planned Purchasing'.
It's trying to show what future buyers are opting to purchase when they eventually buy.

Brad says:

So sick of all these pointless surveys. None of them mean anything. Go on any Apple website and you'll see "how amazing the iPad/Phone is doing", now go onto an Android website "Oh look how amazing the Android OS is doing", now go onto a Blackberry website "Hey look how awesome BB is". You get the point.
Tired of reading this garbage day in and out.

MILE says:

No, actually I don't get the point -- what does a survey on inverstorplace.com (which isn't really affiliated with any of the listed manufacturers) have to do with marketing promises on Apple, Android or RIM websites…?!?

Carioca32 says:

Actually, Investorplace is playing the same game many people are playing now, the Apple stock game. If you have access to the media, it´s easy to make some cash on Apple stock these days, spread some rumor or some meaningless survey and watch the numbers fly. Next week spread a rumor about Jobs health and watch the numbers climb back down. Doesn´t anybody here get suspicious when reading a tech survey from a place called Investorplace?

9thWonder says:

it doesn't need to be listed. it would be an "other" by definition. I'd hope those surveyed would figure that. Touch pad isn't listed either but if those are the choices. Obviously other is the only part that could apply.

Crunch says:

No manufacturer could even compete with the 1st iPad, much less the 2nd iteration.

DRHughes says:

Apple is just a great company that makes great products. That's all.

Jacob says:

I think the reason is because the ipad has so many things included in it along with over 65,000 app, with little to nothing for the other tablets.

dloveprod says:

Motorola has potential with the xoom, they need to get them in stores so people can use try them out, copy off apple.

Virtuous says:

Moto couldn't copy Apple even if their lives depended on it.

JDgeek says:

Troubling. Competition is critical to a competitive marketplace. Near monopoly stats like these are never good for the consumer long term. Hope the competition steps it up.

webvex says:

Next up, water wet and fire hot. This is hardly news to anyone not living in a bubble or in deep denial. Don't worry, competition will come, but I agree that Apple is fairly safe for the next year. Obviously, Apple thinks so too.

shane says:

its not the hardware its all about the apps ( like garageband ) now repeat this again and again till we understand why. now after me.
ts not the hardware its all about the apps
ts not the hardware its all about the apps
ts not the hardware its all about the apps
ts not the hardware its all about the apps ...

fastlane says:

Wrong. Nobody I know even buys many apps, for the most part. It's about the entire package not being a cheap piece of junk like the competitors' are.

Jon says:

What is an "other" tablet, anyway?
