The forums continue to grow and today we have a few interesting threads that you should not miss.

Sturamsden started a thread that asks the question I'm sure a lot of people who do not currently own an iPhone may be asking: should I wait until the next generation iPhone comes out before I make my purchase? To see what type of advice he is getting please head on over to his thread, how close is the next gen iPhone?

Next we have forum member Dizzy, he seemed to be having some battery life issues after the 2.2 firmware update. I know I had some similar issues after the 2.1 update, is anyone else having similar battery drain problems with the 2.2 firmware?

The next thread will help a lot of you out there looking to add ring tones to your iPhones. It was started a while back by cjvitek: Want to make your own ringtones but you don't want to have to pay for them? Well if the answer is yes, then please check out that thread. All the information you need is contained in the link.

Finally we have a whole sub forum dedicated to jailbreaking and we'd like to point it out to all of you interested. It seems jailbreaking has gone to the next level with the 2.2 firmware and I urge anyone interested to check this sub forum out now! It can easily be found right here in Jailbreak Central. I see a lot of you are asking questions on the front page, if you have not found your answer there you will sure to get the help you need in our forums. For those of you who are jailbroken, we want some feedback from you. What are your top 10 favorite jailbroken apps? Even if it's your top 5, that will do. Thanks!

To get in on the action all you need to do is register. It won't cost you anything and it's a painless process. So what are you waiting for?!

See you on the forums!

Like most iPhone users out there, I'm always excited about firmware upgrades because you EXPECT things to be BETTER afterward, right? I just so happened to be up late, writing, on the night that the 2.2 firmware update hit, and wasted no time in downloading it to my precious iPhone 3G. Once completed, everything was fine and much improved! Or... was it?

It wasn't long until I realized that my iPhone was heating up excessively and I couldn't keep it close enough to a charger. If my phone was topped off when I went to bed, and left unplugged, it was dead by morning. How could this be? Even a reset didn't help. There had to be some app running in the background that was chewing up my battery faster than Pac-man on a steroid/speed cocktail. Are YOU having the same problem since the 2.2 update? If so, read on. This tip may apply to you!

Does this picture look familiar? It's what I was looking at after only mere hours off the charger. The only thing I could think of was that an app was running in the background, draining my battery even when my iPhone was only in standby and unused.

I closed any apps that could be the culprit - I logged off of my IM app. Since the 2.2 update, I had changed nothing, so I assumed the update made some kind of change that resulted in something on my iPhone being 'always on' and, likely, using data at a voracious rate. I reset my Safari to make sure it wasn't the culprit. What could it be?

The only other app on my phone to use data was Mail. I have Exchange set up on my iPhone so that I can get my company mail, contacts, and appointments in as close to 'real-time' as possible. Could the update somehow have affected my Exchange settings and made everything wonky? It was time to experiment.

One thing I've learned through painful experience is that, in most cases, a problem can be fixed by starting with the simple things. I've learned this when diagnosing car problems. If the car doesn't start, why? Does it turn over when you turn the ignition? Nothing at all? Could be the alternator, right? Oh wait! What about the battery? It's a lot cheaper to check the battery and replace it before digging under the hood and replacing an alternator.

With this start-with-simple approach, I deleted my Exchange email account and then set it up again from scratch. Guess what? It worked. For some reason, the update did not play nice with existing Exchange settings and email. Once the update ran, my Exchange was locked into a constant 'on' state and was endlessly searching for mail that wasn't there, rather than waiting for the mail to be 'pushed'. No wonder my iPhone was like carrying a hot coal in my pocket! A simple deletion and setup of my Exchange mail account resolved the problem and my battery life has been normal ever since.

If you use Exchange on your iPhone, I recommend deleting and reinstalling your mail account after all future iPhone updates. Then, you'll avoid the distress I went through when I couldn't get 5 hours out of my iPhone after a full charge.

Our iPhone Forums have been busy as of late, so lets get things going...

Jailbreaking has been a very popular topic lately here on TiPb. So, it's fitting that everyone interested in that topic check out the thread and click on the link. There are a few pieces of software out there today that allow you to Jailbreak. Personally and for most of the TiPb Team QuickPwn is the popular choice, and we tend to avoid "others" out there. This must-read link for iPhone jailbreakers will tell you why.

Forum member HymerSchmid, started an interesting thread a while ago wondering about a attachable keyboard for the iPhone? Or an iPhone with a physical keyboard? I don't see it happening, but look at RIM and their new Blackberry Storm. (Thought they were all about the physical keyboards...)

Next up we have a fresh thread just started the other day. All iPhone owners are always craving a new updated firmware fix, so... when do you think the next firmware, 2.2, will actually be released? Next month? December - just in time for the holidays? In the new year? Will be interesting to see just how this all pans out won't it? Make your voice heard and get in on the vote!

Ever need to copy music from your iPhone to your computer? I personally have not had that need but some of you may, so Wegmans brought it up in his own thread. Check that one out and get some answers!

Curious about a certain iPhone application? Have no idea if it is any good or not? Well if you really want to hear a quality review let cjvitek or msbaylor, our new TiPb iPhone Forum Reviewers, know about it right in the review request thread! If you app is reviewed you can be sure to check it out right here in the iPhone Apps forum!

Like I said, it has been busy in the forums... if you want in on the action, be sure to register here! You can do so here and it will only take a quick minute.

See you on the forums!
