iPhone hit by yet another daylight savings time alarm bug

Seems like Apple just can't get their alarms to work consistently following time changes. The bug struck again, according to BBC News, as some iPhone owners in the UK were late for work this morning after the clocks moved forward an hour for British Summer Time. Similar problems occurred during the switch to and from standard time in North America, and following New Year.

Apple to extend AirPlay video streaming licence to third parties?

According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is weighing up the possibility of extending its current licensing of AirPlay to include video. Currently third party manufacturers can use AirPlay but only the audio protocol. This is why we are seeing high end stereos and iPod docks with AirPlay but no products that can receive video streamed from an iOS device.

Under the new plan, according to “two people familiar with the project”, Apple will license AirPlay video software to consumer electronics makers this year. This could then be included in TV’s, Media Players, Blu-ray Players etc.

Gevey SIM unlocks iPhone 4 on iOS 4.3 with the latest baseband [video]

A SIM card hack known as Gevey has been released to unlock the iPhone 4 running the latest iOS 4.3 software and baseband. This is a hardware hack as opposed to a software hack like Ultrasn0w.

The hack involves a wafer thing SIM, that needs to be inserted in the SIM card tray along with the actual SIM card that you wish to use in your iPhone 4. You then have to follow a short procedure of dialling an emergency number, hanging up, then toggling flight mode on and off a few times. Then service with your chosen provider magically appears. It is a little convoluted and has to be repeated if you reset your iPhone 4 or run out of battery.

The Grevey SIM will cost in the region of $75 and supports iOS 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.3 and baseband 1.59.00, 2.10.04, 3.10.01, 04.10.01. This is a costly solution if you are in need of a SIM unlock for your iPhone 4. It is currently the only one available; and you do not need to jailbreak! If you really need an unlock solution, it may be worth considering.

Jonathan Ive considering a move back to UK?

UK news paper, The Sunday Times is reporting that Jonathan Ive, the Senior Vice President of Industrial Design at Apple, wants to return to the UK to live! Ive is the principal designer of the iMac, MacBook, unibody MacBook Pro, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

Ive supposedly wishes to commute to Cupertino from his home, which is based in Somerset, England, and the Apple board is not exactly thrilled by the idea. A friend of Ive’s family has allegedly confirmed the dispute and told The Sunday Times:

Apple Store updated with the Verizon iPhone

Apple updated its online store a few hours ago, not with the white iPhone 4 unfortunately, but the Verizon iPhone was added. You can now order the black iPhone 4 on either AT&T or Verizon direct from Apple at a cost of $199 for the 16GB model or $299 for the 32GB model. Shipping of the Verizon iPhone 4 is rather disappointing, Apple can only promise to ship by February 18th while the AT&T iPhone 4 is quoting shipment within 24 hours.

AT&T takes opening shot at Verizon iPhone

The Verizon iPhone has not been officially announced yet but that has not stopped AT&T firing the first shot at a CDMA iPhone.  According to a report by Business Insider, AT&T PR boss Larry Solomon has risen to the challenge and come out with the following statement:

The iPhone is built for speed, but that's not what you get with a CDMA phone. I'm not sure iPhone users are ready for life in the slow lane. AT&T’s GSM technology is faster than Verizon’s CDMA technology.
