The Choiix Power Fort 5600 mAh by Cooler Master is an external battery pack charger for your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Unlike case charges such as the mophie juice pack, because it's USB based the Power Fort will also work with Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and most other gadgets, as well as accessories like Bluetooth headsets.

The Power Fort has a built-in lithium ion battery that takes about 6-8 hours to fully charge and Choixx claims it lasts for about 500 charging cycles. Once it's fully charged, it can re-charge most modern smartphones about 2 to 3 times for a total of about 28 hours of usage. An iPad 2 or similar sized Android tablet gets up to 6 hours and a Bluetooth headset, almost 140 hours. Handy LED indicators on the top show you how much charge remains in the Power Fort.

A special bypass circuit design in the Power Fort prevents any damage from over charging or charging/discharging, so you don't have to worry about your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad taking any battery life hits. The Power Fort also has short circuit and over heating protection built in, and you can charge your iPhone, iPod touch and iPhone while charging the Power Fort.

The good

Provides a lot of power

Holds charge well

Compact and easy to carry

The bad

One more thing to carry

The conclusion

The Choiix Power Fort 5600 mAh by Cooler Master is a good choice if you want a powerful yet compact external battery to take with you when you'll be out and about for an extended period of time. It's also good if you have several different types of gadgets and accessories and need one, flexible charging solution to handle all of them. It is one more thing to carry around, but without power, so is a dead iPhone or iPad...

The SGP GLAS.t Screen Protector is simply the best iPhone screen protector I've ever used. By far.

If you switched from a phone with a plastic screen to the iPhone's spectacular glass screen, then you know how different the feeling is. It's like night and day. Glass is just so much easier to slide, swipe, pinch, flick and use than plastic. For everything from basic navigation to good old game plat, glass is the feeling you want. And it's exactly the feeling the SGP GLAS.t Screen Protector for iPhone gives you.

Although I've used a lot of screen protectors and films over the years, I've never stuck with any of them precisely because they made my beautiful glass iPhone screen feel like cheap, sticky plastic. Every swipe just felt wrong. The SGP GLAS.t Screen Protector suffers from none of that. It feels almost exactly like the iPhone screen. The reason for that is simple -- GLAS.t has a hardness of 8-9H, which they say is three times stronger than regular PET film.

That also makes it incredibly scratch resistant, so contact with keys, loose change, and other common pocket objects isn't a problem. It is a high-density material, however, so if you drop it from high enough it could chip -- but better the inexpensive, easily replaceable GLAS.t than your expensive, not easily replaceable iPhone screen and digitizer, right? The GLAS.t is also specifically designed to break into small, non-sharp pieces so it's not as dangerous as a traditional glass product.

The GLAS.t sticks to your iPhone by virtue of a strong silicon adhesive and once in place it transfers capacitive touch input effortlessly between your finger or stylus and your iPhone. I noticed no missed multi-touch moments or any lag whatsoever. Because it's a solid layer, it will add slightly more thickness (0.4mm) to your iPhone than the almost two-dimensional plastic films, but the difference in tactile feel more than makes up for it. It eclipses it.

While thicker than a plastic film, you'll be too busy loving the feel of the GLAS.t to notice!

Because of the thickness, however, SGP includes several Home button extenders that you can use to make the Home button easier to press. You don't have to use them, they just turn -- for lack of a better term! -- your iPhone Home button from an innie to an outie. You get black, white, pink, and green options. I much prefer the basic black one.

The GLAS.t is also oleophobic, just like the iPhone screen, so it repels oil and finger smudges and is much easier to keep clean. (SGP nicely includes a microfiber cloth to help with just that.)

Included in the GLAS.t package is the screen protector itself, a microfiber cleaning cloth, a cleaning wipe, and 2 white, 2 black, and 2 colored Home button extenders.

The good

Feels just like iPhone glass -- spectacular!

Oleophobic for easier cleaning

Scratch resistant

The bad

Not as thin or chip-resistant as plastic.

The conclusion

The feel of glass is just so much better than the feel of plastic that once you try the SGP GLAS.t I don't think you'll ever be able to go back. It's easy to put on, easy to clean, it's scratch proof, and it just looks and works so much better than a plastic screen protector. The best compliment I can give the GLAS.t is that after a while it doesn't feel like you're using a screen protector at all, it just feels like you're using the same silky smooth glass surface you've always been using.

It's the best screen protector I've ever used (and a lot of us here at Mobile Nations are now absolutely hooked on them).

Apple may be working on a dedicated hardware gaming controller to play nice with iOS smartphones and tablets.

Rumor has it that Apple is quietly tinkering with a new device dedicated to making gaming easier on iOS devices. During their 2012 iPad review, AnandTech mentioned:

I know of an internal Apple project to bring a physical controller to market, but whether or not it will ever see the light of day remains to be seen. As smartphones and tablets come close to equalling the performance of current game consoles, I feel like the controller problem must be addressed.

The best third-party attempt at hardware remotes dedicated to mobile that I've seen to date is Zeemote. but if Apple ends up providing native Bluetooth connection support for standard game controllers like the PS3's, it may circumvent the need for Apple to make anything themselves. Personally, I think the Wii remote would be best suited for the job, at least from a style standpoint.

Apple is most definitely targeting gaming consoles with the new iPad, so the possibility isn't too far-out. Still, any game which makes use of AirPlay basically turns the iOS device into a controller while the image is beamed to your TV. If this Apple project actually comes to fruition, I worry that it will be some bastardized version of the Apple TV remote that isn't remotely ergonomic like the mock-up above, but until we get some more fuel for this rumour, that's not something we have to worry about for the immediate future. Besides that, who knows if it will be used with iOS, or will just be another Apple TV peripheral.

Gamers, how much are you hurting for an Apple-approved dedicated controller? What kind of controller would you like? Are touchscreen controls good enough for you as they are?

Even though Mobile Nations Fitness Month is coming to a close, you should still continue to improve your fitness. One such device that may help you in this endeavor is the Fitbit Ultra, a tiny little gadget that clips to your clothing and keeps track of how many steps you've taken, flights you've climbed, and calories burned.

I've been using the Fitbit Ultra for about 3 weeks.

Hardware and use

As previously mentioned, the Fitbit is a tiny little device that clips onto your clothing. The makers recommend either clipping it to your pocket, putting in your pocket, or clipping it to your bra. The Fitbit also comes with a belt clip attachment.

To use your Fitbit, simply keep it on your person everywhere you go. There is a single button on the device and pressing it will cylce through your current stats for number of steps taken, miles traversed, calories burned, and flights climbed. It also has a flower that represents how active you've been - a longer stem represent more activity.

To record an activity such as running, riding a bike, or even using a jumprope, just hold down the button until you see the timer start. When you're done, hold it down again to stop the timer. You do the exact same thing to track your sleep. The Fitbit is smart enough to realize that if there's virtually no movement, you must be sleeping.

Unfortuately, the Fitbit is not water proof, so for water activites, like swimming, you'll have to manually log the activity either on the website or the app.

Syncing your Fitbit and battery life

The Fitbit comes with a little dock that doubles as a battery charger and syncing station. It plugs into your computer via USB and is very small, so it doesn't take up much space on your desk. To sync your fitbit, all you need to do is be within 15 feet of the dock and the sync will happen over the air. If you wish to manually force a sync, you can connect the Fitbit to its dock.

Unfortunately, this is the only way to sync your Fitbit. It's a shame that it can't sync to your iPhone via bluetooth.

Connecting to the dock is also how you charge the Fitbit, which doesn't actually need to be done that often. Granted, I don't use the stopwatch as often as other people might, but I've only needed to charge the Fitbit twice in three weeks. Not bad.

Wristband for sleep tracking

I'm just going to jump right out and say that I hate the wristband that comes with the Fitbit. It's annoying to put on and doesn't fit me well. Apparently I have small wrists, because even with the wristband secured at its smallest setting, it's still not very snug on me.

The wristband is made out of a nice, soft material and has a small cutout for your Fitbit to go. The problem is that it's equipped with a velcro closure. After about 2 weeks of use, the velcro on my strap was halfway torn off on one side - the outer side - making it snag on blankets. I don't even want to think of what it'd to do my hair if it was long. Because of this, I've stopped using my wristband entirely. Instead, I just clip the Fitbit onto the beltstrap of my PJs.

Fitbit website

Fitbit dashboard

The primary way to view the information gathered by your fitbit is on the web. You'll be able to see a breakdown of all your activity, sleep, and calorie intake as well as log any food, activities or sleep that you were unable to record with your fitbit. It also creates nice graphs and charts to visually display your data and get a closer look at your activity pattens. For example, let's say you learned that you took 8000 steps from the summary. You can then scroll down to see a bar graph of how many steps you took each hour to see which part of the day you were most active.

The website is great and all, but we're iPhone users and need something while we're on the go. That's where the Fitbit app comes in.

Fitibit App

I wish I could say the Fitbit app is awesome, but it actually leaves a lot to be desired. What it does do, however, it does great.

The main tab is where you'll find a summary of your activity (number of steps taken, floors climbed, and calories burned), food and calorie intake, and water consumption. You can also log activity, food, water, and weight from their respective tabs. The UI is nice, intuitive, and visually appealing.

The biggest thing missing from the Fitbit app is sleep logs. Sleep tracking was one of the features I was most looking forward to from the Fitbit, so I was extremely disappointed that I'd have to visit the website to view any of my sleep data.

The Fitbit app also does not show graphs and charts of your activity like the website does. And although you can look over data from previous days, there isn't a way to see your averages over the past 30 days like you can on the website.

One thing to keep in mind when using the Fitbit app is that it's pulling all the information from the website, not your Fitbit, so the data will not be updated until you get close enough to your computer for your Fitbit to sync. So don't be alarmed when the app isn't updating while you're out and about. You can always look on the Fitbit itself to see your current stats.

The good news is that the Fitbit app isn't your only choice for using with your Fitbit. One area in particular that is a little weak is tracking your food and calorie intake. We recommend MyFitnessPal to use as a companion app with your Fitbit to better meet those needs.

The Good

Tiny

Easy to use

Syncs wirelessly to computer

Long battery life

The Bad

Not waterproof

Doesn't sync with iPhone

App doesn't display sleep data

Sleep wristband is terrible

The conclusion

Will the Fitbit make you get in shape? No. Does it have the potential to motivate you to be more active? Absolutely. There's something about seeing the numbers that makes me want to be more active. Admittedly, I haven't have been as active as I want (as shown in my screenshots), but there are some personal home life issues influencing that. It's the little things and small decisions that have changed.

For example, yesterday, I was waiting for my husband to pick me up from work and instead of standing there for 15 minutes, I decided to walk towards the direction that my husband would be coming from. This small decision added an additional 600 steps to my day but didn't take any extra time -- I was going to be standing around during that time anyway. Although not directly related to fitness, I also genuinely told my husband that "it's ok, I needed the walk, anyway" when he apologized for being late. This is a change to my overall outlook on being active.

So even though I, personally, haven't made any huge physical changes because of the Fitbit, I'm still happy with my purchase. I've only had it for a few weeks and the impact it's had on my mentality towards activity is valuable. I'm confident that I will make those physical changes soon and the Fitbit is a daily encouragement to make that move.

Baby steps. Literally.

In fact, 40 states have some sort of hands-free law in effect, meaning that if you're going to be talking on the phone while driving a vehicle, you must not have the phone in your hand. Luckily, newer cars come equipped with speakers the ability to connect to your phone and take or make calls using the car speakers. If you don't have that option available to you, you may choose to use a Bluetooth headset or earpiece. This is a more versatile option, as you can use it outside of your car as well.

Choosing a Bluetooth earpiece can be difficult. You want one that will work seamlessly, as well as look good, and the options out there don't always combine those factors in an affordable package. With hundreds of designs to choose from, you're sure to find one that will suit your personality. Each image is mechanically painted onto the earpiece and finished with a moisture resistant coating, guaranteeing quality and durability.

Each Earloomz earpiece comes with 2 earhooks and 4 earbuds as well as a lanyard holder so you always have it handy. Compatible with most mobile phones, set-up is a breeze and took less than a minute when I paired mine. Multipoint technology allows you to stay connected with 2 devices at once, and the earpiece has a range of 33'. Headset controls include call/answer, last number redial, and call waiting, all in one button.
Earloomz is asking consumers, car dealerships, cellular phone retailers, non-profit organizations, corporations, small business owners, medical professionals, and municipalities to join the campaign “Be Aware” and encourage anyone that is mobile to go hands-free – regardless of state laws. Whether, it’s encouraging someone to use a Bluetooth that conveys a personal interest, requiring an employee to wear a custom logo Bluetooth while driving a company vehicle, or setting an example for a child, Earloomz is helping keep cell phone users hands-free.

Contest: Earloomz is giving away two Bluetooth earpieces to iMore readers! The first thing you'll want to do is head over to their website at the link below.
Brookstone is set to launch an iPad specific hardware scanner in February. The scanner has been designed for the road warrior that no longer wants or needs to carry around a laptop, but needs to regularly scan documents on the go .

Our iConvert Scanner for iPad and iPad 2 Tablets scans hard copies to JPEG files directly to your tablet, giving you instant e-copies of your most important documents. The JPEG files are automatically stored in the picture folder. Great for use at home, the office and on the go. The entire scanner is sized to take with you in your messenger bag or backpack.

The scanner has a front document feeder tray which adjusts to accommodate documents from 2 inches to 8.5 inches wide. The scanner works with a free app which will be available from the App Store on launch. The iConvert Scanner will be available in early February and will cost $149.99. With so many software based scanners already available for the iPad 2, it is hard to see where this scanner will fit in. Unless of course you need high quality scans on the move or have the original iPad without the camera.

Kenu Highline is a unique accessory that looks to provide an element of safety when using your iPhone or iPod touch in extreme situations. If you are not adverse to taking your iPhone out with you when doing extreme sports such as climbing mountains or even bungee jumping then one of these could make everything that much safer.

Highline is a custom-engineered iPhone and iPod leash designed to let you capture that epic shot, stay connected with friends, and listen to tunes without worry of dropping your mobile device in extreme situations. Naturally, Highline is ideal for those absent-minded moments or a case of the butter fingers.

The Highline connects to your device via the 30 pin dock connector. It then has a 5” coil which extends up to a length of 30” if you drop your device. The device can be connected to your person via a strong loop system which can connect to belt loops, zips, carabiners etc.

If you are into extreme sports or just want that extra bit of insurance while using your device outdoors, this could be a very useful accessory. The Kenu Highline costs $19.95.

Belkin is set to release a remote camera shutter controller for the iPhone according to information found in an FCC filing. The small accessory will work over a Bluetooth connection to your iPhone and it can activate the camera shutter or trigger video recording remotely.

The camera remote is set to work exclusively with Belkin’s LiveAction app which is already available in the App Store. The camera remote will also come with a detachable iPhone stand to enable you to prop up your iPhone at various angles to capture the best shot. It could come in very handy if you like to take group photographs that you also wish to be included in. This would be a much better option than rushing around after setting the camera's self timer.

There is no information as to when this may be released or any pricing information at this stage. We will let you know as soon as we hear anything more.

While at the most recent Show Stoppers event, I had the opportunity to check out the LifeProof case for iPhone 4S (and iPhone 4). Protection is always key for any of our beloved electronics, and whether you are a mountain biker, a swim lover, or a karate king trying to keep your iPhone protected while doing your favorite event is a struggle -- until you meet LifeProof. The folks at LifeProof have spent a lot of time (over two years) designing this case, and a whole lot of money (over two million dollars) into making sure that their product was the best to hit the market.

Whether in rain, snow, ice, dirt, sand, or any other horrid condition you can think of with your device the folks at LifeProof know that their case can protect your device without you needing to take any additional precautions. So, does the case really hold up to its name? Let's take a look at some video action and check out some more images of the case on the device.

Pretty impressive stuff, huh? Not just everyday would you trust a case enough to just toss it in a tank of water, or drop it from six feet onto the ground without cringing in fear of what damage was just done to the device. We know, you understand that it can keep the device protected, but you want to know how much bulk it adds to your device, and if it is comfortable in the hand, right? Well, short answer, yes -- and let's take a look at why.

Personally I always fear the super protective cases because I know you need to add bulk to protect, and often times companies love to go overboard with the bulk, and it makes holding the device feel unnatural, and it no longer comfortably fits in your hand and pocket, but this case is different, very different. Adding only 1/16 of an inch, or 1.5mm, and adding less than an ounce of weight, to say the case is surprisingly small would be an understatement.

Featuring a two piece snap together design the case fits very snug over the device, making getting the case on and off a bit of a struggle, but that is their intentions for the waterproof seal that the case offers. The top piece includes an attached scratch resistant and waterproof screen protector that still allows for complete operation of the touch screen, and with the waterproof seal around the edge of the case you don't have to worry about any dirt or dust getting under there.

The headphone jack is sealed by a screw in cap that can be removed and they include a headphone extension that screws in for those of us who wish to use their headphones will keeping the device protected. The charging port is covered by a flip down piece that seals very tightly. The cut out will allow chargers to be plugged in to the device without the removal of the case, and LifeProof also offers a dock extender that plugs into the charging port and allows the device to be docked with the case on.

Overall the case does an extremely good job at protecting the device while adding minimal bulk to the slim profile of your iPhone 4S (or iPhone 4). The look of the case is quite plain, but they do offer a few different color selections such as black, white, pink, and purple, and the color covers the complete device, including the front so you can make it appear as though you have a totally different color iPhone than you really do!

Giveaway

We are giving away our review unit; it was used slightly (don't worry it isn't the one in the test video!) and it is in near perfect condition. Simply leave a comment letting us know what kind of abuse you put your iPhone through that requires LifeProof to protect it.

The first accessory is the Chef Stand and Stylus; this is a washable stand with various viewing angles. It also comes with a wand or stylus which has an easy grip handle and a magnetic tip. It has been designed for you to carry on using your iPad even though your hands could be covered in food.

The second accessory is the Kitchen Cabinet Mount; this has an easy to use clamp and does not require any drilling of permanent installation. It secures your iPad at eye level allowing you to carry on cooking free in the knowledge that your iPad is safe and secure.

The final accessory is the Fridge Mount. It is basically a mount that secures to your refrigerator door via 3M CommandStrips. The iPad 2 can then be snapped into it and is held in place with magnets.

The accessories are designed for the iPad 2 with the exception of the Cabinet Mount. This is a universal type holder suitable for tablets between 7" and 10". The cost will be $39.99 for the Chef Stand, $49.99 for the Kitchen Cabinet Mount and $39.99 for the fridge mount.

The WINGStand is a clever two piece plastic stand designed to work with the official Apple Bluetooth keyboard. It clips onto the Apple keyboard and then an iPad can be used in portrait or landscape mode; you can even use the iPad while it is in its case. The stand works with the original iPad, iPad 2, iPhone or even other tablets. If you don’t want to use a keyboard, the WINGStand also works fine as a stand for your device.

The WINGStand has been developed by student Daniel Haarburger who is currently studying at Stanford University. It has already reached its target funding figure of $9,500 with more than 38 days remaining; looks like this one is going to be a very popular accessory.

You can still make a pledge and guarantee yourself one of the first ones off the production line. $20 will get you one in white, $30 if you want an exclusive black one and you can even get a package including the Apple keyboard; that will set you back over $100.

I really like the look of this and hopefully it will be available very soon. Take a look at the video after the break!

The iKeyboard is an interesting Kickstarter Project that aims to address an often complained about problem with any iPad. The on-screen keyboard is great for simple text input however if you have something longer to type up, it can become very awkward and uncomfortable to use. This is where iKeyboard comes in and hopes to address these issues and offer the ability to touch type on the iPad. .

The iKeyboard sits on top of the iPad’s virtual keyboard without adding much to the weight or physical size. It claims to allow you to touch type, but more importantly, not have to suspend your hands above the screen; which is anything but comfortable and often painful after prolonged text input. The iKeyboard requires the same force and travel distance to register a key press as the current Apple keyboard.

The accessory is in a working prototype stage at the moment and its claimed that it works pretty well and the highest hurdles have been jumped. As this is a Kickstarter project, the aim is to get funding to take the prototype to the next level and start production. To do this, the iKeyboard needs investment pledges which were originally set at $4000. As of today, it has received over $5000 with some 46 days left to go. It seems to be proving very popular!

Have a look at the video after the break the let us know what you think of the iKeyboard? Can you see yourself using an accessory like this? Let us know in the comments!

Having problems with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad accessories and wondering how to troubleshoot them? Here are a few basic tips which will help you identify the issue. Stick with us after the break.

Check for defects

If you have another iOS device, or have a family member, friend, or colleague with an iOS device, try the accessory out on their iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. For example, if a earbuds don't plug properly into your 3.5mm headset jack, or a case doesn't fit quite right, see if it plugs in properly or fits better on theirs.

If there's a defect, you can contact the store or manufacturer and arrange for an exchange.

Search our Forums

Head on over to our TiPb Accessory Forums and see if there are any discussions already going on about your accessory. If anyone else has already had and solved the same problem, you'll save yourself a lot of effort by following the same steps yourself. If they haven't solved it, you can help crowd source a solution. If no one else has discussed the problem yet, you can start a new thread and get it going!

We have some of the best readers in the world and they will be able to let you know if there's an issue (or not).

Check for compatibility

First thing you should do is make sure that the item that you are using is fully compatible with your iPhone or iPad. To do this you can head over to our accessory store , or to the website of the accessory maker and double check to see which iOS devices are compatible.

You may find that some devices are only partially compatible with your iPad or iPhone. For example, some older car adapters may allow you to play music through your FM radio but won't charge your iPhone (a very common issue).

Bonus Tip: Our most awesome Managing Editor Rene Ritchie has mentioned that some accessories may also popup an incompatibility warning because they're not officially part of Apple's program (haven't paid the made for iPhone or iPad licensing fee), but still charge you iPhone fine. Either way, find out for sure.

Unplug and Reset

Take out the accessory. If the accessory has a off button turn it off and then restart your iOS device. When your iOS device restarts fully, try to plug the accessory back in. Here's [how to reset iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad].

Some accessories may require additional steps to start fresh. For example, Bluetooth headsets may need you to press certain button combinations to put them back into Pairing Mode. Check the instructions that came with your device, or check the manufacturers website for details.

Restore

If you know the accessory is not defective and that it's supposed to work with your iOS device, try to restore your device. Sometimes that will clean out any glitches and get you back to a fresh, default state.

Not sure? Here's how to restore your iPhone or iPad.

Update iOS

Some accessories may need to have the latest iOS software in order to function properly. For example, iOS 4 added Bluetooth control support that wasn't available in iOS 3. If your accessory isn't doing everything it should, make sure your software is up to date.

If you're not sure, here's how to update your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

(Note: if you are are jailbroken you may lose your jailbreak if you update.)

Hope you found this tip helpful. If you have any accessory trouble-shooting tips of your own please share them into the comments!

Tips of the day will range from beginner-level 101 to advanced-level ninjary. If you already know this tip, keep the link handy as a quick way to help a friend. If you have a tip of your own you'd like to suggest, add them to the comments or send them in to news@tipb.com.

blueSLR is a bluetooth accessory for Nikon DSLR's that pairs with your iPhone to embed GPS information into your files as well as allow you to use your iPhone as a remote shutter release. The folks at XEquals sent me a unit to test out and share with you. To find out what I think, follow along after the break!

[blueSLR]

The hardware is very compact and doesn't add much bulk to your camera. It plugs into the slot labeled "GPS" and blends in with the camera rather well. There is a small light for indicating bluetooth connection to your iPhone. Once connected, you can use the blueSLR companion app to send GPS data to your Nikon camera to geotag your photos.

The app is very simple and strait forward. Your GPS location information is displayed on the main screen as well as a shutter release button. You can also easily set a timer and tell the camera to take as many as 10 shots. If you only want to use blueSLR as a remote shutter release, you can simply disable the GPS function and save battery life on your iPhone. I'm hoping that a future update adds the ability to adjust camera settings like shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

There are three blueSLR models that cover compatibility with the following Nikon DSLR models: D3100, D5000, D90, D3(S), D200, D300(S), and D700. At this time, blueSLR is not available for Canon cameras, but XEquals hopes to bring that functionality soon.

If you use a compatible Nikon DSLR camera, blueSLR makes an excellent addition to your camera bag and can be yours for $149.

The Griffin TuneJuice 2 Back-up Battery for iPhone is a battery charger for iPhone or iPad touch (or traditional iPds) that, instead of being rechargeable, uses AAA batteries. That means to use of the TuneJuice you do not have to constantly find an outlet and make sure you recharge it before your iPhone. You can just throw in fresh batteries and get going. So if you are traveling for a long period of time and worry that you may need to keep a few items charged then this is the charger for you.

To find out more follow us after the break!

The Griffin TuneJuice 2 is made to give you power when you will be without an outlet for a extended period of time. If you are planning a camping trip but still want to have your iPhone working throughout, and don't mind packing a bunch of AAA batteries, this is perfect.

The main unit slides open to allow you to insert the batteries then you just plug the 30 pin connector to your iPhone or iPod. I do find the 30 pin connector a bit odd. It's long enough to be in the way but not long enough to be able to keep the TuneJuice in your pocket or purse and use your iPhone while charging. If anyone knows how this short cord is helpful let me know in the comments!

In terms of power the Griffin TuneJuice for your iPhone will give you up to 14 additional hours of audio and up to 2 hours of additional video play. I was hoping that it would give me more power but to get that you need to carry extra batteries with you.

The Griffin TuneJuice 2 Back-up Battery for iPhone is available from the TiPb iPhone accessory store.

Pros

Use of batteries eliminates the need to charge charger

Can recharge phone multiple times by adding fresh batteries

First set of batteries included

Very inexpensive

Cons

cumbersome

30 pin dock cord of unusual length

Needs batteries

Not iPhone 3G compatible

The iPhonECG by Lifetone Technology is a case that turns your iPhone 4 into a fully functional ECG (Electrocardiography) device that can be used to monitor your heart. It works via interpretation of the electrical activity of the heart over time captured and externally recorded by skin electrodes.

The case is a simple enough snap on type plastic case with two electrodes on the rear. The patient can hold the case in their hands, touching the electrodes, or hold it against their chest to capture the performance of the heart. The information is displayed on the screen of the iPhone 4 with a dedicated app, again developed by Lifetone. It also has another app that works with the case. The second app is a personal heart rate monitor, to aid with relaxation; it is aimed more at the consumer than the professional market.

Both apps and the case will be announced at CES (Consumer Electronics Show), which begins in Las Vegas next week.

Pure has announced the i-20, an iPod and iPhone dock able to connect to your home A/V system and transfer audio as well as video to your existing setup. A well known UK manufacturer of high-end DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) radios, Pure's dock offers audio that can be output in digital (toslink, digital coaxial) or analogue formats. Analogue sound quality is said to be delivered flawlessly via the in-built DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter).

The i-20 also has the ability to deliver video directly to your TV from your iPod or iPhone. Pure claim that the i-20 is the only digital iPod dock available that supports all popular analogue video formats. (component, S-Video and composite).

Whilst in the dock, the i-20 will also charge your device and comes complete with a power adapter and infra-red remote controller.

The dock is available now in the UK at a price of £74.99 ($120). Anyone interested in adding it to their setup?

The iLuv Skin Case is definitely an extremely thin case. It is made of a soft rubber silicon material that feels extremely smooth to the touch. Some people may be willing to sacrifice a little bit of protection to have a thinner more portable case but in my opinion, this case was more than a little too thin.

If you want something extremely thin and don't plan on transporting your iPad very far in this case, you should be okay. Other than that, this case is more for looks than anything else.

I wouldn't say it's durable by any means. And after taking the case off and putting it back on a few times, the material starts to lose its shape. This is the sacrifice you'll make by using a case as thin as the iLuv skin case. In my honest opinion, I'd probably step up to a case that is a little thicker. Sure it may cost you a few more dollars but you'll be buying another one of these pretty quickly since it'll lose its shape. I'd even go as far as to say if you snag it on something, it will tear very easily.

iLuv makes several other great cases that don't sacrifice protection when it comes to making a sleek case. I'm not quite sure why they compromised so much on this one.

The iLuv Skin Case is available in the TiPb iPad Accessory Store as well as several other cases. If you already have this case, let us know what you thought of it in the comments.

Pros

Extremely thin and adds virtually no bulk

Cons

While it may be thin, it adds next to no protection

Material feels cheaply made and very flimsy

No grip means your iPad may be more likely to slip out of your hands

The Otter Box Commuter Case for iPhone 4 is a well constructed hard-shell case with a silicone layer underneath and screen protector. It provides a no-slip grip while keeping the thin iPhone 4 form factor we love.

Reviewing cases can be tough; there are a lot out there. I think it's fair to say most cases I review are rather good. I haven't really come across the "perfect" case yet, but I might be close with this one. Why? Well, it's the perfect compromise between slim and protected and it's by Otter Box, an industry leader in hardcore protective cases.

What makes this case unique among its competition is that the silicone is very well constructed. The the hard shell outer case and the silicone literally work in concert to protect every aspect of your iPhone 4. The silicone covers everything from the headphone jack port across the top of the device to the 30-pin connector slot on the bottom. Each is protected with a flip-out plug. What is so great is the headphone jack is protected without the sacrifice of blocking the second mic; it's still uncovered. I am very impressed with Otter Box's design work.

The hardshell is pretty solid. The only way I could envision it breaking is if it was frozen to -30 degrees then smashed with a hammer. I seriously feel very secure with it.

Here is something else I like about the case; by now you may know how much I like raised edges on cases for the iPhone, as it protects the screen if it is laid on its face. With the Otter Box, I feel I am getting an extra .5 or 1mm additional height and the hardshell meets the height of the silicone on the top, bottom and sides of the device. This means that if placed face first and any weight is placed on the device, it is still not likely to scratch. That is great design work and my kudos to Otter Box.

If you need your iPhone protected, look no further than the The Otter Box Commuter Case for iPhone 4 to have a good looking case while keeping it safe. Available now from the TiPb iPhone 4 Accessory Store.

Pros

Awesome protection with little sacrifice for thinness

Throughly protected, yet access to all ports, even the mic!

Included screen protector

Durable silicone skin

Polycarbonate outer shell

Cons

Though relatively easy to take on and off, not really meant to be removed

Lint tends to stick to the silicone, but this is an issue with every silicone skin I have come across

No color selections other than black

Can't place in dock with case on

There is an endless list of apps that allow you to make video calls with your iPhone 4, and aside from Apple's FaceTime, most of t hese are also compatible with the 3GS, but it can be quite awkward to video call without a front facing camera.

Korean company, PLAYMASS, have produced a new accessory that can solve the problem, iSeeU.

iSeeU clips onto your i Phone 3GS, and flips open to reveal a series of mirrors, that allow you make a video call using the rear facing camera. One neat thing about iSeeU is, you can easily swivel it off to the side to switch the cameras, so that you can still show your friend what the rear facing camera would normally see.

iSeeU is available in 5 colours, black, white, blue, pink and green, and comes with a stylish carry case, so you can easily store it away when you’re not using it.

PLAYMASS is now offering the iSeeU accessory to pre-order on their website for $24.95. They will be shipping later this month. Will you be getting an iSeeU clip to video call with friends? Will this stop you from upgrading to an iPhone 4?

Video after the break.

The Case-Mate Walkabout Case for iPad is a great case if you're looking for something low profile. It's also slim enough to slip into virtually any bag or briefcase. The outside has more of a suede feel to it (despite it being tan leather) and doesn't seem to collect dirt like some other lighter colored cases might. So if you're in the market for a new iPad case that has no bulk but provides decent protection, click on through for a hands-on video, review, and pics!

The first thing you'll notice about this case is the feel. It's definitely genuine leather, but it's got a bit of a suede feel to it. I personally like it. I don't feel like it'll slip out of my hand. The inside of the case is smooth and the fit is just right. When sliding the iPad in the case, you don't feel like you have to force it or that it'll scratch the sides of the device. The closure is lined with magnets as well. There's no buttons or clasps to worry about. The case will simply shut and stay that way. I attempted to hold the case upside down and shake the iPad a bit but the clasp never came undone. So if you're worried about the iPad falling out, you won't have to with this particular case.

I've been using this case for about 2 weeks now and I've had it in bags and sitting on random countertops and tables in the house. It doesn't seem to collect dust or dirt. The case still looks brand new. One of my concerns with lighter colored cases is always that they will get dirty or dingy over time. So far, it's stayed perfectly clean.

On a protection level, the Walkabout will typically protect the iPad from normal wear and tear. It'll prevent from things in your bookbag or briefcase hitting the iPad or scratching it, but I wouldn't go as far to say it would protect you from a serious drop. I'd still be concerned that dropping the iPad on a hard enough surface would still cause some damage (denting, cracking, etc..). It should protect you against moderate to mild drops but I wouldn't expect it to be the equivalent of an Otterbox type case. This case seems to be more geared towards being trendy and sleek than protective.

So if you're looking for something super-trendy and sleek, you can find the Case-Mate Walkabout case for iPad at our TiPb iPad accessory store.

Pros

Low profile

Magnet enclosures are extremely secure and easier to use than clasps or buttons

Stays clean despite the lighter color

Perfect amount of give - not too tight or too loose

Cons

Won't provide protection against serious drops

It's a little pricey for not providing optimum protection

I spent the past week using the PixelSkin Case for iPhone 4. Speck has a lot of great accessory lines from iPhone cases and skins to everything iPad and iPod as well, but I was a little hesitant at first as I'm not a fan of cases that add bulk and most pattern or etched cases do. I was pleasantly surprised with this one and still have it on my iPhone.

I've never been a huge fan of textured cases, but this one is deceiving. It isn't really "textured". Most of the square pattern you see is actually smooth on the outside of the case. It feels nice in the hand and slides in and out of pockets incredibly easily. Part of the reason I have always preferred smooth cases is I'm not a purse girl by any means. I prefer keeping my phone in my pocket. I carry about a messenger type bag with me for all intensive "purse purposes". Throwing my phone in there, it would take me 20 minutes to find it when I needed it. Pockets are quicker and easier. So I've always looked for cases that don't fight me when trying to slip it back into my pocket. Finding smooth, thin cases and not sacrificing any protection is always a tough battle.

This particular case not only feels good in the hand, but protects the sides of the phone and allows the screen to be a bit recessed without adding extra bulk. I'm the master at dropping my phone and I dropped it once with this case on it. It landed face down on hard wood floor with no damage to be seen. Since the case comes up over the edges, it helps for those times when you'd like to set your phone screen down, or Jobs forbid it, you're like me and just have the clumsy gene. Either way - if you're looking for a case that provides a decent amount of protection without adding "too" much bulk, check out the Speck PixelSkin case for iPhone 4 in the TiPb Accessory Store. It's available in purple, pink, and black. If you already have it, let us know your thoughts on it in the comments as well! Still not the case for you, browse the rest of our case selection in the TiPb iPhone 4 Accessory Store!

Pros

Extremely smooth despite being silicone

Doesn't add bulk

Doesn't get dirty quickly like many silicone-based cases

Cons

Stretches out a bit after being taken on and off

Some 3rd party chargers and accessories may not fit into the dock connector with the skin on

This week I am looking at the Incipio Silicrylic Case for iPad. This is a two-part case not unlike the Case-Mate Hybrid Touch Case where you have a silicone inside layer and a hard outside layer. The goal being to provide extra durable shock protection.

As you would expect you have the typical openings in the case for the 30-pin connector, speaker, headphone jack and rotation lock. The power and volume controls are covered by silicone, but still function. I found putting on the case was a little easier than other models of this case type offering the same style and function. However, it also has the same weakness; the top and bottom portions of the silicone layer are not very secure and can easily be moved or nudged with little effort. Of course this is because it is difficult to add any rigidity to the silicone case covering the connecting port and speaker, but there has to be a way...

I did find the case to be quite protective and even covered the edges onto the screen to protect any accidental iPad face-plants. As a side bonus, the Incipio Silicrylic Case does come with a screen protector for iPad and a wipe cloth. These are nice additions that you don't receive with other cases and in my mind sets them above the competition in this regard. The Incipio Silicrylic Case for iPad is available in four color combinations: Black/Black, White/Grey, Confetti/Charcoal, Lime/Charcoal for $47.95 in the TiPb iPad accessory store.

Marware Eco-Vue case brings executive leather folio look-and-feel to iPad

Make no mistake, the Marware Eco-Vue case for the iPad [$42.95] is the executive option for iPad cases. It's the leather bound Cadillac. It's the finely appointed Benz. No, I'm not writing a luxury car review, but that's kind of how this case feels. The quality is excellent -- it smells excellent. Deep black leather with crisp white stitching on the outside sandwiches your iPad providing a think layer of plush protection, softer gray microfiber swaddles it inside while still granting access to hardware buttons and ports. There's also a clear screen protector included to keep the display safe.

A thin elastic band lets you secure the Marware Eco-Vue closed or flipped back and open. There's a leather strap that folds over the top and tucks in to keep your iPad from falling out. I'm paranoid so it didn't de-stress me to the level a snap or velcro or some other form of security would have, but it's long enough and the friction is high enough that the iPad stays put. It's leather-glove tight inside either, which will annoy perfectionists but does make getting the iPad in and out far easier. Since I haven't seen a dock yet that will work with this size case, that could be a plus for those who want to take their iPad out every once and a while.

Inside the Marware Eco-Vue's front cover are a couple of highly useful extras. An elastic leather strap lets you slip one hand inside so you can carry the iPad around and tap away with the other hand without worrying it will slip and fall. A stand folds out to let you prop it up on a table to create a better typing angle. A magnet keeps it from flopping around when not in use. Smart. So smart I kind of wish a magnet was also used to keep the case closed, though the elastic is certainly more traditional.

And if you're wondering about the Eco in the name, Marware says it's made out of substances healthier for the environment and meets RoHS standards.

On the negative side, luxury comes at a price and in this case the price is bulk. The Marware Eco-Vue isn't a skin, it isn't a film, it's a fairly hefty leather bound folio. If 1.5lbs of iPad is already dragging you down, this won't help (hitting the weights might). I found the protection worth it, and didn't even use a bad with the Marware. I just closed it, secured the elastic, and carried my iPad around like a book. That way, the net total was a lighter, more portable, if somewhat Yuppy-esque solution.

I've heard some complaints that there's nowhere inside the Marware Eco-Vue to carry a paper notebook and pen. Sure. Okay. That's valid. I got an iPad so I'd never have to use pen and paper on the go again, but for those of you who want to take the old and the new with you, Marware doesn't offer that option. Nor is there a place to stick some business cards. It's also black only at the moment, so if you prefer your leather in Indiana Jones brown, you're out of luck.

Other than those gripes I've been very impressed, and I'm decidedly not the type of person who usually likes the leather fold-over case form factor. (See Sikora, Jeremy). I've actually been using it more than what's required to review it and I have a sneaky suspicion that means it's won me over.

If you're looking for a smart, sexy iPad case that offers both protection and panache, look no further -- the Marware Eco-Vue has you covered.

Here we have the Pogo Sketch stylus [$14.95], the small, lightweight and stylish choice for those who want to write on their iPhone or iPad.

The Pogo Sketch comes in sliver or pink and is made of a aluminum alloy that makes it look sleek and feel sturdy in your hand. The capacitive foam tip gives a nice soft feel when its used, though I do find you have to press a bit harder than when using your finger. The tip is thin which is also good for those who want to do detail work or get around pudgy fingers to begin with. There's a handy clip on the back so it will fit over your shirt, book bag, or hang off your pouch case. It also has a loop on the top so if you want to hang it from your neck -- or anyplace else -- you can just place a cord around it and go. They really did think of everything.

Some (including Steve Jobs) may ask: why use a stylus at all when you always have your fingers handy. Well I live in a cold climate and I hate having to take off my gloves to use my iPhone or iPad. I also would rather use a stylus when I am doing anything which leaves my fingers dirty like eating or yard work. Also, drawing with a stylus is fun.

I keep my Pogo Sketch with me in my purse, so if ever I need it is always at hand. It works really well with the iPhone and iPad and is a good deal at $14.99. It's especially great for a gift because it is very useful for any iPhone, iPad user. If you pick one up please let me know if you enjoy it as much as I do!

Pros

-Lightweight
-Sturdy
-Affordable

Cons

The clip is made of plastic

needs a bit more pressure than your finger

The HyperMac Nano by HyperShop is an external battery for iPhone and iPod with a built in charging cable. It's highly portable, looks and feels great, and is made of 1800mAh lithium ion which provides up 1.5 times full recharge of the iPhone.

To learn more and get details about the give-away, follow us after the break!

The design of the HyperMac Nano is very slick and reminds me a cigarette lighter. With dimensions of only 3.4" x 1.5" x 0.55", the battery will fit easily into your jeans or jacket pocket for easy portability. The rounded edges of the aluminum casing also feels nicely in your hands. The HyperMac comes in 9 stylish colors; yes, the same 9 colors available for the iPod nano.

What makes the HyperMac Nano unique to other external batteries is the built in charging cable. Underneath the cap you will find both male and female 30-pin sockets plugged into each other. The cap also conveniently snaps magnetically to the bottom of the battery so you don't lose it when the battery is in use.

To charge the HyperMac Nano, just plug your iPhone cable into the female socket; and to charge your iPhone, plug the male socket into your iPhone. When the HyperMac Nano is plugged into a power source, a blue light will indicate that it is charging and a green light will mean the charge is complete.

When on the go, I found the HyperMac Nano more convenient than an extended battery because it did not increase the length of my iPhone. I could easily fit them together in my jacket pocket without fear of them falling out because the short cable is long enough to rest the battery behind my iPhone and so nothing sticks out of my pocket.

In conclusion, I found the HyperMac Nano to be a great and stylish way to give my iPhone some extra juice.

Now for the give-away! Just leave a comment below and let us know why HyperMac Nano will be a great addition to you life. We'll pick one of you randomly and send you a silver HyperMac Nano. (The exact one you'll receive is this reviewed unit). You need a valid email address and a US shipping address to enter. The contest starts now and ends Sunday, March 14, 2010.

While the wait for TomTom's iPhone software to hit the App Store has come and gone, most of you are still eagerly awaiting the arrival of TomTom's iPhone car kit, first shown off at WWDC back in June. Engadget Mobile is now reporting that your wait may be coming to an end as TomTom's car kit has received its FCC approval. Included in that link, for your viewing pleasure, is the kit's manual, some images, and a few test reports.

Since it's announcement TomTom has kept pretty quite about the kits full capabilities. Well, a quick look in the user manual gets us all of the official details.

Your TomTom car kit for iPhone is designed to provide you with the best
possible navigation experience. A built-in GPS receiver enhances your iPhone's GPS signal, ensuring the most reliable navigation, wherever you are. Using the car kit, you get loud and clear voice instructions, can make hands- free calls, as well as charge your iPhone while you drive. The car kit is a safe and secure dock with the award-winning fold-and-go EasyPort mount.

Is there a difference between a high-end Bluetooth Headset compared to a normal one? With so many hands-free driving laws being passed these days, the question is obviously on many consumer’s minds. The BlueAnt Z9i ($74.95) is one of those high-end headsets that manages to combine a small and sleek form factor and with a powerful piece of technology, Digital Signal Processor (DSP). On paper, it is everything you want in a Bluetooth headset. How does it test? Does it accomplish everything it sets out to do?

Read on for the rest of the review!

Design

The Z9i’s design is extremely sleek and admirably compact. Whereas many headsets of comparable size focus on their notable lack of size over middling specs, the Z9i manages to pack strong, top-of-the-line technology in a very tight package.

The glossy black of the body is accentuated by chrome lining—it matches incredibly well with the black iPhone 3G. There are dedicated volume buttons on the top side of the headset and a multifunction button (power up/down, answer/end calls, and alternate between standard and max noise cancellation) on the headset’s body. Also, the Z9i includes two microphones which are dedicated to canceling noise.

There is an obscenely bright indicator light, which flashes the BlueAnt logo in well, blue (and red). Luckily, there is an option to turn this off because it is quite blinding in a dark room. The earhook design is quite ingenious—where most other headsets have a fixed earloop or one that moves horizontally, the Z9i moves vertically. This offers easier access and greater comfort. The only design quip is that one end of the earhook is strangely visible, an odd decision by the folks at BlueAnt that detracts from the overall sleekness.

In all, the Z9i isn’t exactly adventurous in its design but its execution is top-notch. You would be hard pressed to find a Bluetooth headset that matches great technology with great build quality—those who enjoy a Bluetooth Headset that is small, sleek, and compact will definitely love this headset’s design.

Usability

The Z9i’s packaging includes two earloops (one is transparent), two earbuds, a wall charger (MicroUSB), and a USB cable. The Z9i syncs wonderfully easy with the iPhone and as an added bonus, the Z9i is capable of being simultaneously connected to two different devices, offering seamless transition for those with multiple devices. It offers 200 hours of standby time with 5.5 hours of talk time. Taking advantage of a feature that is lacking in the iPhone, you are able to use voice commands with the headset as well.

I found the Z9i to be really comfortable in the ear. It has a basic earbud design that is really easy on the ears and plus its light weight makes it barely noticeable.

In testing, I found that the incoming calls sounded great, they were clearly audible with no distortion. I had absolutely no trouble hearing the conversation and thought the Z9i was better than most in regards to incoming audio. Though it doesn’t have any technology that adjusts the incoming audio to your background, the easily accessible, dedicated volume buttons do help.

In quiet situations, the outgoing audio quality is also impressive. Callers didn’t even realize I was using a Bluetooth headset and stated that I sounded perfectly normal with no digitization. The performance in quiet surroundings certainly warrants its high-end price and is impressive due to its dimunitive size.

However, the noise cancellation is not as good as advertised. Though it does block out some background noise and isolates the outgoing audio, it is not the noise assassin that the Jawbone 2 is. When I had the radio on, callers could hear the song fairly clearly.

This might be a philosophical difference between the Z9i vs the Jawbone 2, where the Z9i chooses to accentuate the voice of the speaker and include the background noise while the Jawbone 2 seeks to simply eliminate the background noise. Both work, but if you’re expecting Jawbone-like ability in regards to background noise, you might decide that the Z9i isn’t for you.

Final Thoughts

Let it be clear, that the Z9i is better than nearly every other Bluetooth Headset available and its comfortable fit and long battery life should convince many users that the Z9i is for them. Add the bonus points for multiple device syncing, easy controls, and a small size—it clearly should be considered in every Bluetooth Headset purchase. Though it’s noise cancellation performance is not top notch, callers will definitely hear you a lot easier than other headsets. If you’re seaking a noise cancellation headset, you can do no wrong with the Jawbone 2. If you want something a little more versatile, the Z9i is a great, great headset.

PROS

Small, Sleek Design

Comfortable Fit, Easy to Put On

Sync to Multiple Devices

Great Incoming Audio Quality, Impressive Outgiong Audio in Quiet Surroundings

CONS

Not an 'amazing' noise cancellation performer

Odd Earhook Design Exposes chrome

FINAL RATING:

Need a place to keep your hands free when you hit the gym? Looking for the ideal workout case for your iPhone? The Marware Sportsuit Convertible case for iPhone 3G ($34.95) and original iPhone ($34.95) is a workout case that keeps your iPhone always within reach and your hands free to lift weights, use the yoga ball, run faster etc. It also doubles as a slim-profile sleeve case. And even triples for a clip-on case that is attachable via belt clip. How does it all perform? Does it hold up over time?

Read on for the rest of the review!

What Comes In The Box

Upon opening the box you’ll notice that you have:

Marware Sportsuit Convertible

Arm Band

Belt Clip

Key Pouch

Because it is a ‘convertible’ case, the case can be attached to either the armband, nothing at all, or via belt clip (along with many other accessories sold separately). They also add an optional key pouch, which I found incredibly useful in my testing. Slipping your car key in and out is a cinch and if you have no need for it, you don’t have to attach it.

Design & Fit

The Marware Sportsuit Convertible is made from a neoprene material that is both soft and smooth. The build quality is solid and the material feels great against your skin. The neoprene wraps comfortably around your upper arm and keeps the hard plastic from chafing. Also, the neoprene does a fairly good job in wicking away moisture so the arm band doesn’t stick to your skin when you sweat.

What’s unique about the Marware Sportsuit Convertible is its versatility. Marware stresses that you are able to use the workout case as an independent case as well. Though it may look unsightly, the case itself offers great protection with padded backing and edges and a full screen protector.

The Marware Sportsuit Convertible leaves room open for all of the iPhone’s sensors, the camera, ear speaker, and headphone jack. The belt clip works as well as any other belt clip. Most of my testing concerns the Marware Sportsuit Convertible Case as a workout Case.

Usability

The first thing I noticed in my testing was that slipping the iPhone in and out of the case was an extremely difficult task. Though it should be understood that a tight fit for an iPhone workout case is desirable, the Marware Sportsuit Convertible is almost TOO tight. When trying to remove the case, the tightness of the fit peeled off my Bodyguardz Screen Protector; every millimeter counts. Though the tightness is intended to keep my iPhone safe and sound from the rigors of working out, it was still mighty annoying trying to get my iPhone out.

In my testing, I found the case to be extremely comfortable and usable. I found the case easy to remove from the arm band and most of the iPhone’s buttons easily accessible. There are gray outlines that detail where the buttons on the iPhone are (not like you would forget, but a nice touch). Though the iPhone does lose some touch sensitivity behind the plastic screen protector, it didn’t seem to be a deal breaker for me. Whatever I needed to get done in the gym—changing playlists, increasing volume, make a quick call—the Sportsuit Convertible handled well enough.

The material of the arm band is great and I rarely noticed my iPhone attached to my arm when running. The velcro attaches well and the arm band is always secure. The quality of material that Marware uses in the Sportsuit Convertible was a great choice. As a workout case, the Marware Sportsuit Convertible succeeds.

Final Thoughts

Though it was a complete pain to remove the iPhone from the case, when it was in the case my iPhone felt safe and secure. There was never an issue of looseness and my iPhone was never in danger of falling onto the treadmill (oh the horror!) or getting smashed by some free weights. Obviously, if you were to use this as an everyday case, the plastic screen protector wouldn't be the most ideal for heavy touch screen usage, but the Sportsuit Convertible is perfect for a trip to the gym and is rugged enough for any physically demanding exercise.

PROS

Great Build Quality, Neoprene feels soft

Secure Arm Band

Useful Key Pouch

CONS

A VERY, VERY tight fit. A little difficult to remove the iPhone

Not the prettiest design

Loses some touchscreen sensitivity

FINAL RATING: 4.7/5

The Seidio Slim Rubberized Hard Case for iPhone is available here at the Phone different Store for $29.95. With so many choices to protect and stylize your iPhone, how does this case measure up? Read on for the full review!

Case Design

When choosing a case for your iPhone, there are numerous options out there. For me, protection and appearance are paramount. I've had cases that protect against impact but, due to a slight amount of movement between the case and phone, scratching occurs (because you and I both know that dust ALWAYS manages to get under the case!).

The Seidio Slim Rubberized Hard Case for iPhone is a hard plastic case with a rubberized paint finish. The back half of the case is lined with soft velvet, providing a non-scratch cushion between the case and the back of the iPhone. The case is available in three colors: black, burgundy, and blue.

The case snaps easily together between front and back. The seam between halves is fairly smooth around the perimeter of the iPhone. There are cutouts for the ear speaker, Home button, connector port and speaker/mic, camera, headphone jack, power switch, and for the volume rocker and mute switch. The touchscreen is fully accessible on the front.

Performance

Although I love the design of the iPhone, one of the things I decry is it's "bar of soap" feel in the hand. The Seidio Slim Rubberized Hard Case does a fantastic job of protecting the iPhone while the rubberized finish makes it more "grippy" without adding much bulk.

One concern I had about a hard, snap-together case was how well it would hold together -- I didn't want the case coming apart at the slightest bump or twist in my hand.

Fortunately, I have had no problems with this Seidio case. Once it snaps together, it takes a little effort to separate the two pieces. Although I haven't tried it myself, I suspect a drop on a hard surface will result in separation (and possibly a scratched iPhone), but few cases will protect well against a drop on a hard surface anyway. You must ultimately sacrifice a bit of protection a leather or nylon case may provide in exchange for the rubberized paint and slender profile of the Seidio case.

I previously mentioned my concern about my iPhone getting scratched by dust and dirt trapped between the iPhone and case. I'm happy to report that after weeks of use, I have yet to find any scratches on my iPhone as a result of using this case. The rubberized paint has also held up remarkably well with daily use.

Summing It Up

In spite of the stratospheric rise in gas and food prices, I'm happy to report that your money is well-spent on the Seidio Slim Rubberized Hard Case for iPhone, available here at the Phonedifferent store for $29.95. With full access to the iPhone, "grippy" feel, and minimal added bulk, it's a great case to complement the sleekness of your iPhone!

Pros

Full access to iPhone

"Grippy" rubberized coating

Once snapped together, it stays put

Cons

Offers less protection if iPhone is dropped

Overall: 5/5

Yow. Accessory-maker EXO [via Engadget] has posted the above image of a sample iPhone 3G case. Engadget seems to think that it's possible the here-to-for little-known company is just trolling for link and we're not disinclined to agree. Still, let's assume that these are relatively legit. That gives us two pieces of news:

The good news: it seems to be in line with the earlier "iPhone 3G case guidelines," which means that we're getting closer to confirming the look of the iPhone 3G.

The bad news: it seems to be in line with the earlier "iPhone 3G case guidelines," which means that this thing looks a little fatty fatty 2 by 4, don't it?
