Mighty Eagle coming to Angry Birds for iPhone, iPad

This December, in celebration of 1 year on the App Store, the TiPb Award winning Angry Birds will be releasing an update that includes the ability to in-app purchase Mighty Eagle as well as:

  • 15 new levels
  • New Shiny Golden Eggs
  • New Gameplay
  • New Achievements

Might Eagle will cost $0.99/£0.59/€0.79 and can then be used to skip through those levels that you just can't beat. However, you'll be restricted to using the Mighty Eagle only once per hour, requiring you to wait before you can use it again.

In addition, you'll also have the new option to freely smash up levels you have already completed with the 'regular birds', so you can try and fill up the destruction gauge.

Not only is this update going to be released in celebration of their one year anniversary, but you can also attend one of the 200+ meetup points worldwide for an Angry Birds Flash Mob. If there isn't a event happening in your area, you can set up an event and get people to join in the fun.

If you don't already have Angry Birds, you can buy it on the App Store for $0.99/£0.59.

Take a look at the "The Mighty Eagle" trailer after the break. Are you looking forward to the update? Will you be spending money on Mighty Eagle? Let us know in comments!

Angry Birds sequel and multiplayer coming

The highly popular game Angry Birds has a sequel on the way. This isn't simply Angry Birds 2, however. Rovio CEO Peter Vesterbacka announced that it would be from the pigs point of view. Angry Pigs, perhaps?

In addition, Vesterbacka announced that they are working on a multiplayer version of Angry Birds.

Multiplayer Angry Birds will be like old school Worms games. Multiplayer is a priority, but we have not determined the best way for our players to experience it yet.

Angry Birds for Windows Phone 7? Microsoft Says Yes, Rovio Says No

You're Microsoft and today you're launching the brand new Windows Phone 7 platform and what better game to showcase that launch but iOS hit Angry Birds... unless of course the developer, Rovio, isn't making Angry Birds for Windows Phone 7 and didn't give Microsoft permission to use it. Whoops.

Whether or not Angry Birds will make it to Windows Phone 7 down the road is debatable, but a lot of developers have been contacted and asked to make apps for the Windows Phone 7 marketplace.  In some cases, they've even been offered cash incentives. Hit the jump to see the letter some developers have been receiving from Microsoft asking them to develop for Windows phone 7.

And for complete Windows Phone 7 launch coverage, check out our newly renamed sibling site, WPCentral.

Angry Birds 1.4.1 and Angry Birds HD 1.4.1 hit App Store

Angry Birds for iPhone and its big brother, Angry Birds HD for iPad, have been updated to make it even birdier and, I fear, angrier. New features in version 1.4.1 consist of:

  • 15 levels have been reconstructed
  • A new golden egg has been added
  • Fresh new achievements are included
  • And, um... fantastic feathered fun is plentiful

The iPad version hit a couple of days ago. The iPhone version is just hitting now. If you try out either update, let us know what you think.
