Updated Apple TV taken apart, reveals tiny A5 system-on-a-chip

Earlier this year Apple updated the Apple TV with new internals. There was no press release and no public statement of any kind, just a slightly updated model trickling its way into inventory. Well, MacRumors got their hands on one, took it apart and found what looks to be an even smaller version of the Apple A5 system-on-a-chip. Eric Slivka reports:

Rumored details on iPhone 5 processor chip, GPU, other under-the-hood hardware

A recent leak of an iOS 6 beta which is expected to launch next week at WWDC has revealed some interesting info about the upcoming iPhone 5. We've already seen plenty of what the exterior hardware will look like, but on the inside, we can expect a Samsung 5L8950X ARM processor that is internally branded as the A5-***.

Apple screens, chipsets proudly made in the U.S.A.

As part of his D10 Conference interview last night, Apple CEO Tim Cook used the occasion to once again respond to critics of Apple's China policies and remind them key parts of the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad are in fact made in the U.S.A -- including the Corning Gorilla Glass screens and the Apple A4, Apple A5, and Apple A5X chipset "brains".

New iPad teardown shows A5X processor made by Samsung, increased die size for quad-core graphics

The fine folks at Chipworks have taken a closer look at the new iPad, particularly at the upgraded A5X processor. They were able to confirm that the new processor was made by Samsung using a 45 nanometer CMOS process.

Apple's next generation iPad 3 will almost certainly be announced on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, California. Apple rumored to be working on both A5X and A6 chipsets for next generation devices

iMore heard Apple was going quad-core with a full on, next generation A6-powered iPad 3, so did Bloomberg, but The Verge heard dual core and strings have been found identifying a less ambitious A5X chipset instead. Which one is it? Both? Neither? Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac thinks it's almost certainly both.
