The once pulled, now updated, GMail application is again available for downloading through the App Store. The previous build was approved and quickly pulled after some issues with Push Notification, and we have been waiting for the application to surface again. For those who still have it installed, the updated advises that you delete the previous version, and then install this version instead of just updating this one over the previous build. With no errors on launch, and notifications pushing, could this update be what we had hoped to see originally? Hit the link below to grab it for yourself, and let us know how it works out for you.

No one likes when their favorite application is left out of the update party, and the folks behind WeatherPro didn't want you to feel that way either. An update has hit the AppStore for WeatherPro users that enables iCloud support for those of you who have updated to iOS 5 along with increased radar support. Knowing the weather for the day ahead is always pretty important to many of us, no one likes to walk out of the door in their finest of clothing and step right into the middle of a wild thunderstorm, do they?

iCloud synchronization for favourites! Available in time for the launch of iOS 5, WeatherPro is excited to be using the very latest in iOS developments to introduce iCloud synchronization for favourites on WeatherPro for iPhone and WeatherPro for iPad.

Increased radar support - One of the best-loved features of WeatherPro is the animated radar which is available for the US and much of Europe. New in WeatherPro for iPhone 2.5 is weather radar for Luxemburg.

Bug fixes – We continually strive to improve WeatherPro and wouldn’t dream of releasing an update without first fixing any known bugs.

The WeatherPro update is available in the AppStore now as a free update for current users, and if interested in purchasing today you can do so for only $1.99.

[App Store Link]

We've all heard horror stories about Apple's "draconian" control over the iOS App Store for years, but if developer Shifty Jelly is to be believed, and as the old saying goes, Apple ain't got nothing on Amazon.

Amazon’s biggest feature by far, has been their Free App Of The Day promotion. Publicly their terms say that they pay developers 20% of the asking price of an app, even when they give it away free. To both consumers and naive developers alike, this seems like a big chance to make something rare in the Android world: real money. But here’s the dirty secret Amazon don’t want you to know, they don’t pay developers a single cent.

So it's not that they exchange marketing (getting on their features list) for money (getting zero for your app), but that they're not up front about it before hand. But that's not all, in addition to Apple-like lengthy review periods, Amazon takes it upon themselves to set or reset a developer's price, re-write their descriptions, provides fewer reports, and pays later than Google does for the Android Market proper.

This, of course, comes as no surprise to anyone who's ever dealt with Amazon from an author/publisher point of view. They've always made Apple look easy going by comparison. What will be interesting is how developers, media, and enthusiasts respond. They and we, rightly, gave Apple hell in 2008/2009 for their App Store policies. Given the especially harsh contrast between Amazon's policies for their Android Appstore, and Google's policies for the "openy" Android Market, there will be every bit as much outrage directed Amazon's in 2011, right?

Check out the link below for all of Shifty Jelly's cautionary tale...

[Shifty Jelly, thanks Seth!]

Apple has opened the twitter account @AppStore and posted the following first tweet:

Welcome to App Store on Twitter! Follow us to discover new apps, get exclusive offers, and share with friends. #appstore

It'll be interesting to see what Apple does with this account, particularly with exclusive offers. The iTunes Twitter accounts are currently used to announce new releases and sales, so we will likely see something similar. There has been a second tweet from @AppStore promoting Nike Training Club.

Motivation. Full-body workouts. On-demand instruction. It’s all available on Nike Training Club. http://tw.appstore.com/4zo #appstore

If you're on Twitter, follow @AppStore and let us know what you hope to see from Apple's newest Twitter account!

TUAW (nice redesign, guys!) notices that the iTunes App Store no longer has a link on the lefthand side to browse all free apps. The best we have now is the Top 100 Free Apps over on the right. TUAW is hopeful that Apple will bring back the link to browse all them free apps, and indeed, so are we. Even stores that traditionally only sold for-pay mobile apps like the Mobihand store sister-site WMExperts have seen the writing on the wall and added a link for free apps.

Fear not, though, loyal TiPb Readers. <strike>We have the link to browse all 90 pages of free apps, over 1850 apps in total, right here. Go on, browse those free apps, don't let the man keep you down. Browse all Apps</strike>

Update: Turns out that you can, in fact, stop the signal. The "Browse all free apps" listing linked above contains, well, a lot of apps that ain't free. Could it be that Apple got sick and tired of developers listing their apps as free to move up the top apps chain, then switching to for-pay to bring in the cash? Our best guess: Apple must not have a good, automatic way to categorize "free," so they took the above link down to tweak the store.

Seems like it's been an eternity since the pulling of the NetShare application officially brought us into the age of Apple pulling apps from the App Store on an almost daily basis. Without NetShare, the only folks who have been able to utilize their iPhones' 3G connection for Laptop connectivity have been the crazy ones.

For the rest of us, there's just the teeniest, tiniest glimmer of hope, that AT&T will relent and allow official tethering.

Until then it's a waiting game. While you wait, think a bit about folks on PalmOS and Windows Mobile, folks who can not only tether, but can tether in a special 'proxy mode' that's actually quite clever. See, when you tether, your carrier can tell you're tethering (and can therefore charge you more). What lucky users on these other platforms do is trick their networks into thinking they're just browsing via their phone. They do this via an awesome piece of software called PdaNet.

So: PdaNet for iPhone? It's still the waiting game:

Our latest response from Apple is that the PdaNet application will be given new "consideration". But that was more than a week ago and it still has an "In Review" status. There is not much we can do at this point but just to wait.

Sadly, that response from June Fabrics is now three weeks old and still no sign of PdaNet in the App Store, so things don't look so good.

Come on, Apple and AT&T, allowing us to tether our laptops to our iPhones would make an awesome "One More Thing."

You'll probably hear from a lot of people who attended WWDC that the app demo section of the keynote was much too long and even :gasp: boring. But the games showcased at WWDC continue to prove that the iPhone is going to be a force in mobile gaming.

Super Monkey Ball - First shown in the March Event, Sega has expanded on Super Monkey Ball including over a 100 levels and four classic Monkeys. The graphics in Super Monkey Ball for iPhone is on par with anything from the DS.

Enigmo - A physics based game using reflectors to put water in a bucket. Ported in three days, looks like frustratingly mindless fun.

Cro-Mag Rally - A racing game using the iPhone's accelerometer as a steering wheel. Nine different tracks, 10 unique cars and looks really fun. That too was ported over in three days.

Digital Legends Entertainment - They demoed a 3D fantasy game that displayed the graphical prowess of the iPhone. It probably didn't reach the high end level of PSP but it only took two weeks to develop. Available sometime in September.

The games are priced at $9.99 and available through the AppStore. After paying similar prices for Texas Hold 'Em on my old cell phones, I think these would be easy purchases. What do you think?
