Apple is reportedly investing a bug in iTunes Match that replaces music containing explicit lyrics with "clean" versions from the iTunes Store.

Apple is reportedly investing a bug in iTunes Match that replaces music containing explicit lyrics with “clean” versions from the iTunes Store. Cult of Mac had this to say about the bug:

iTunes Match had successfully filtered out all the profane and derogatory words by changing the tracks to clean versions of the albums, which pretty much ruined my jog because I was really really wanting to sing along and drop 50 “F-bombs” a minute. Maybe this is just a rare glitch in iTunes Match’s system, but it’s a travesty tantamount to treason in my eyes and I want it fixed.

9to5 Mac now says Apple has acknowledged the problem, but hasn’t come up with a fix just yet.

A 9to5 reader emailed Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services about the issue a couple of weeks ago and received a response from one of Eddy Cue’s engineers. According to the engineer, Apple is currently investigating the issue and working on a fix. Apple has no interim workaround for users of the iTunes Match service, the email elaborated.

So don’t be surprised the next time you fire up some 50 Cent only to find that all the swear words have been removed. Apple is aware of the issue and is working towards a resolution. In the meantime, you’ll just have to go about your rap-listening sessions in censored manner.

Apple has clarified an iMessage “bug” that was reported earlier this week, and involved the intertwining messages from an Apple Genius employee and a customer who brought their iPhone in for repair. Turns out that it was a slip-up on the employee’s part. The Loop reports:

“This was an extremely rare situation that occurred when a retail employee did not follow the correct service procedure and used their personal SIM to help a customer who did not have a working SIM,” Apple representative Natalie Harrison told The Loop. “This resulted in a temporary situation that has since been resolved by the employee.”

Apparently, the Apple Genius went the extra mile by inserting his own SIM card into the iPhone because the owner didn’t have a working SIM. This resulted in the customer’s iPhone being paired with the employee’s number, where all texts sent to/from the employee where also being delivered to the customer’s iPhone. This issue is similar to the way lost or stolen iPhones using iMessage behave after paired to a specific SIM.

If the employee in question had of simply switched iMessage functionality on and off while his SIM was inserted, or just used a different SIM card, this all would have been avoided. Then again, it looks like the iMessage protocol still needs some adjustment.

TechCrunch is helping shed light on an iMessage bug that’s causing problems for iOS users trying to send SMS messages to ex-iPhone users who have switched to another platform, such as Android.

What happens is, the iPhone attempts to send the SMS to the ex-iPhone user as an iMessage — just like it always did before the recipient switched devices. But since Android doesn’t support iMessage, the text ultimately fails.

Simple, if naive solution:

Don’t let your friends switch away from iPhones.

Complicated, if realistic solution:

Tell them to go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do

Log in with their Apple ID.

Click on “edit products”

Click on the “x” to the right of the product.

Click “unregister”

According to a tipster in Apple’s support forums, this should resolve the issue entirely. Unfortunately, this is just one of several iMessage related bugs we’ve been tracking lately. New service or not, Apple needs to get on top of this so users don’t have to go through steps they ought not have to go through.

As noted by GigaOM, a lot of iPhone 4S and some iPhone 4 users are continuing to experience an issue where they cannot hear anything from the recipient on an outgoing call.

The issue in question is when the iPhone 4S (and according to some reports, the iPhone 4, too) mutes all audio on the caller’s end when placing an outgoing voice call. The person on the other end of the line can hear everything just fine, but on the caller’s end, there’s no ringing sound and no audio from a recipient speaking.

The issue has pushed the Apple Support Communities discussion thread past 110 pages with users expressing their frustration and calling for Apple to do something about it. Two of our editors, Rene and Georgia, have both had their iPhone 4 devices swapped out by Apple when the earpiece stopped providing audio (only the speaker phone would work).

It has been speculated that iOS 5.1 won’t address this issues — assuming it is addressable by software — but we’ll have to wait and see.

If you’ve had the same or a similar problem, let us know, and let us know how it’s been handled so far.

One of the magazines that I'm subscribed to in Newsstand decided to place itself on the Home screen, instead of where it's supposed to reside in the Newsstand folder. Luckily there's an easy fix, and today we're going to show you how to get around it if you ever experience the same problem.

The other day I noticed an oddity on the Home screen of my iPad 2. One of the magazines that I’m subscribed to decided to jump out of the Newsstand folder and place itself on the Home screen.

I’m not exactly sure what caused this — maybe it’s the fact that I haven’t updated this specific subscription since I first downloaded it — but for whatever reason, after I performed a normal power cycle the magazine decided to randomly plop itself smack dab in the middle of my homescreen.

At first, I attempted to move the magazine icon back into the Newsstand folder, but that didn’t work because the icon refused to enter jiggly-mode. In addition, I couldn’t delete the subscription app because tap-and-hold wasn’t working at all. Another aspect of the bug is that one of my favorite apps, Bloomberg TV+, had been removed from the Home screen completely (although it was still accesible via Spotlight search).

What’s more, after performing a full restore of iOS 5.0.1, the same exact thing happened on my iPhone 4, removing the Settings app from my iPhone Home screen not allowing it to to enter jiggly-mode in order to delete the magazine download.

Keep in mind, this bug is not incapacitating, but it is frustrating to see a big fat rectangular icon on your Home screen.

Issue

Magazine and newspaper subscriptions from Newsstand place themselves on the Home screen after reboot or restore

Upon attempting to remove the magazine/newspaper download, tap-and-hold as well as app deletion no longer works

Depending on how many subscriptions have this bug, you will lose the same amount of app icons from your Home screen once the problem arises

Possible causes

Failure to update effected subscription(s) over a certain threshold of time (unconfirmed)

Fix

Perform an additional power cycle after you notice the issue on your iPhone or iPad, then tap-and-hold to remove the effected subscription(s)

We’ve decided to cross-post this in the TiPb bugs forum to see if anyone else might be running into the same issue. If you know of a simpler fix — or better yet, a confirmed explanation of what’s going on here — drop a comment in this post or jump into the forums to help other users who may be less fortunate if this specific fix doesn’t work out for them.

Google has voluntarily pulled its Google Voice application from the App Store due to an incompatibility with the just released iOS 5 software. If you search for Google Voice it can no longer be found in the App Store.

Vincent Paquet, Senior Product Manager for Google Voice confirmed that the app had been pulled, explaining “our last update of this week had a bug that caused the app to crash at sign in. We removed it so it did not affect additional users until the fix gets published.”

Google has not released any information as to when the bug will be fixed or when Google Voice will return to the App Store. We will let you know as soon as we hear. Is anyone experiencing this problem?

There’s a Jailbreak bug that affects Springboard (the Home Screen system on iPhone and iPad) and causes your icons to go fuzzy and disappear. Depending on which version of iOS 4 you’re on, and which Jailbreak tool you used (limera1n, greenpois0n, redsn0w, etc.) you may or may not experience it or be able to replicate it, but if you do we have a simple if temporary fix for you after the break.

Though the disappearing/fuzzy icon bug isn’t much more than a annoyance — you can still use the icon in question — is also quite easy to go around.

You can tell if you have the problem simply by swiping quickly from Home Screen to Home Screen. If you you have the bug, some icons will disappear or turn fuzzy. To fix it, just swipe some more and they’ll eventually re-render.

Again, this bug is not incapacitating for your iPhone but it is a bit disconcerting when you see one of your icons has disappeared. (Luckily the name remains under the icon so you can still figure out which app it is).

This bug seems to have started after iOS 4.0 came into effect. We will have to see if it is still in effect in iOS 4.3.

Effect

Your icons will appear fuzzy and difficult to see.

Cause

Swiping rapidly through Home Screens

Fix

Keep swiping until the icons re-render properly.

If you’re desperate, restore your iPhone and re-Jailbreak with a more recent tool

If you’ve had this problem let us know which version of iOS you’re using and which tool you used to Jailbreak. If you’ve come up with any better fixes, let us know in the comments!

This keyboard bug has the iPhone registering inaccurately the key you have tapped, leading to the wrong letter, number, or symbol showing up on screen. I am sure Steve Jobs is telling me that this is the key I really wanted (coughs) but none the less it is a pretty annoying problem.

To find out more about the issue stay with us after the break!

I have had the iPhone keyboard go through periods of registering the wrong keys a few times and each time it happens I get more annoyed. It is not that the key is giving you random letters, it is always the key that is to the left and diagonally above the key I would like to press.

The issue is easily enough fixed: leave the application and then return. It does not happen often, about every 40 keyboard uses or so. I can only assume that this is a software issue as I never had it happen before I upgraded to 4.1. This is also an issue that I had before I jailbroke (Chad, you can not blame the jailbreak for this bug).

Issue

Keyboard registers incorrect key

Happens intermittently, every 40 keyboard uses or so

Causes

Could be related to iOS 4.1 or later firmware

Fixes

Leave application and return

Upgrade to 4.2.1 if you haven’t already

If already on 4.2.1, wait for next update (sigh)

Have you ever had this issue and on which version of iOS? Have you ever had this happen on your iPad?

Several of our readers (and one of our editors…) are reporting a bug where the iPhone Home Button does not always respond to single-click or double-clicks. It might be software related as most people seem to have begun noticing this problem after installing iOS 4.1. It was hoped the bug would be fixed in iOS 4.2.1 but no such luck. Other causes that have been considered include a hardware short or dust or lint getting under the button. Ally also mentions that it may be caused by the home button not being properly centred. Possible symptoms and fixes, after the break.

Is your iPhone Home Button not working properly?

Issues (intermittent)

You single or double-click and nothing happens

You double-click and it only registers a single click

Fixes

Do a restore from backup

Do a clean restore

Have your iPhone replaced

Hope Apple fixes it in iOS 4.3

Yes, it is as bleak as it is annoying. Have you had this bug yourself? Any other fixes you’ve tried?

There is a interesting bug in iPhone 4 photos where a blue tint shows up in the middle of the image. This bug has been widely noted and appears to effect only the back, 5mp camera and not the forward facing VGA camera. It also seems to still be a problem under iOS 4.2.1. Some have stated that this may because of the lighting conditions, while others have noted this effect under many different types of light. <del datetime="2010-12-29T23:27:08+00:00"> I have not had this issue myself with my iPhone 4 or heard of any of my friends having it either</del>. I wrote too soon! I tried taking a picture of a white blanket with my iPhone 4 for the post… and here is what happened..

After the shock lifted, I realized that at close range, I too have a blue tinge on my photos.

This is quite an annoying issue and I have been told of many people exchanging their iPhone 4′s only to get another phone and have the same problem. This seems to be an issue which effects most if not all iPhone 4′s. This issue also occurs with video.

Possible causes

fluorescent lighting

iPhone 4 defect

Potential fixes

use incandescent lighting

install Camera Spot Fix app

exchange iPhone 4

live with it

Want to know if this happens on your iPhone 4? Take a picture of something white like a piece of paper from close range (2 to 3 feet) and let me know what you see. You may be as shocked as I am.

Let me know if you have this problem and if any fixes have worked for you. Also, does it affect your day to day use?

[Thank you Peter for emailing in this bug!]

Disappearing Folders have been tormenting iPhone and iPod touch users since iOS 4 came out in June but now that iOs 4.2.1 is out for iPad, the disappearing Folder bug

Disappearing Folders have been tormenting iPhone and iPod touch users since iOS 4 came out in June but now that iOs 4.2.1 is out for iPad, the disappearing Folder bug is out with it. Here’s the gist — you have spent minutes if not hours organizing your countless applications into Folders only to come back at some time in the future to see one or more folders gone and your apps exploded back across your Home Screen.

We’ll go over the details and offer some potential fixes after the break!

First let me just point out that it’s more than losing your Folders that makes this bug so insufferable — it’s losing the time it took to make those Folders and the time it takes to search out the apps that were in them (if you had more than would fit on the 11 Home Screen pages without Folders, some might even have been bumped into invisible space and be a nightmare to find) and make the Folder again. Yes, re-Foldering is infuriating.

Since it’s been around for several months and is is still around after iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2 it’s hard to know the cause. Some have experienced it after updating to a new version of iTunes, others after updating their applications on-device or doing hard resets. I have had this happen to me without updating iTunes or my apps, so who knows? (Maybe Apple should add a “Folders, re-Assemble!” button in the next update?)

Painthead from Apple Discussions posted a possible fix.

Update all your applications, move them into folders and then sync your iPhone/iPad.

If you’ve had this bug happen to you let us know in comments, and if that fix, or any other fix you’ve tried, has solved the problem for you let us know that as well.

The switch from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time happens tonight at 2 am. But as we learned from Australian and and European iPhone users, the iPhone’s alarm clock will not recognize this change. In fact, your alarm is likely to go off an hour late.

This is a very strange bug. Australian users were reporting that their alarms were going off early after the time change, and European iPhones were going of late. Even stranger is that we received reports of people in the US already being affected by the bug – their alarms are going off early.

The key thing to note about this bug is that it does not affect one-time alarms. So if you have a recurring alarm that wakes you up for work each morning, change the repeat interval to “never”. It’s very frustrating to need to set the alarm every day, but it’s the only option until Apple releases a software fix.

The good news is, it is fixed in iOS 4.2 which might be coming as early as next week. The bad news is that’s a week too late to help with this bug. I don’t know about you, but I’m really disappointed in Apple for not releasing a quick fix for this bug. They knew about it, so they should’ve fixed it before the time change.

Users over on Apple’s support forums are complaining of a bug that has been around since the first generation iPhone and the 1x software. Even on the 3.1.2 software users are randomly getting their iPhones stuck without service while the phone says it is searching for a signal. This bug does not discriminate either, it does not care what cell phone carrier your are with, whether your device is jailbroken or not, or model of iPhone.

Currently the only way to get around this bug is if you reset your device by holding down the power button along with the home button until you see the Apple logo appear on your screen. Once booted back up your service should be restored.

Fortunately, none of us here at TiPb have personally encountered this behavior from any of our current iPhones. Any of our readers find themselves ‘searching for service’?
