Want an untethered jailbreak? Help the jailbreak community find one with new Chronic Dev crash reporter tool

Waiting for an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5? The Chronic Dev Team has just released a crash reporter tool that will allow your to submit your crash reports to them instead of Apple. Crash reports are most likely the way Apple finds exploits in iOS and patches them.

The Chronic Dev Team is hoping to find exploits in the same way for a different reason - a jailbreak for all. You simply install the program to your computer, attach your device to the computer, and click a single button to send your exploits to the Chronic Dev Team. The program is currently available only for Mac users but a Windows version should follow over the next 24 hours.

iOS 5 bug may lead to untethered jailbreak

Chronic Dev Team member @pod2g let the jailbreak community know that he's discovered a new bug in iOS 5 that may allow for an untethered jailbreak in the future.

Hey jailbreaking friends, I've found a bug that can untether iOS 5. Don't expect a release soon, but I'm gonna work hard in it.

Currently, the only way to jailbreak iOS 5 is by tethering your iPhone to your PC or Mac and re-jailbreaking with RedSn0w each time a reboot is needed, which can cause a lot headaches for users on-the-go.

Chronic Dev Team still working on an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak

Chronic Dev Team member @pod2g sent out a tweet stating they are all still actively working on an iOS 5 untethered jailbreak. After Comex's departure to Apple a lot of the jailbreak community is wondering how it affects future development of jailbreak tools. Even though Comex played a huge part in the jailbreak scene there will always be many others willing to step in and fill his shoes. The cat and mouse game will always continue.

Untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak for iPhone, iPad shown off on video

pod2g of the Chronic Dev Team just teased an untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak for iPhone (and we presume iPod touch and iPad) on Twitter:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5qNray7FHU < I really don't know what's funny about this. You do ?

The video shows an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1 in all its untethered glory. Apparently this might be coming soon in greenpois0n update though whether or not they'll use it now or save it for when Apple releases iOS 4.3 is unknown. (If they use it now, Apple could patch it in iOS 4.3 and they'll have to come up with yet another Jailbreak).

What do you say, you want iOS 4.2.1 untethered now, now, now or would you prefer them to play it safe so you can quickly untether iOS 4.3 in February or March? Video after the break!

UPDATED: Greenpois0n iOS 4.1 Jailbreak announced! [Jailbreak]

Moments ago, prominent Chronic Dev Team member Joshua Hill (p0sixninja) announced via twitter that "Things have progressed to the point where we don't expect anymore roadblocks. ETA for greenpois0n is 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM." This hotly anticipated Jailbreak should bring another large contingent into the Jailbreaking community as many new iPhone users who have not been able to jailbreak 4.0.2 and 4.1 will now be able to jailbreak their device.

While details of the jailbreak, such as whether it will be tethered or how it will be implemented have not been announced, that information will likely be given shortly... As a reminder, it is a good idea to save your SHSH blobs with TinyUmbrella if you have not already done so.
