Facebook Connect

Facebook's busted, taking the web down with it

Looks like Facebook Connect has gone a crapper, and sadly it seems to be taking a lot of the internet down with it. If you're having trouble getting to where you want to go, logging out of Facebook seems to sort things out again. Not much else is known at this point, other than maybe being dependent on single-point-of-failure networks isn't a great idea. Hopefully they fix this up quickly.

Meanwhile, let us know if you're having trouble, and when/if things start working again.

iTunes Ping- Where is the Facebook Integration?

Facebook connect for Ping made a very brief appearance during Steve Jobs' iTunes 10 demo and some early users were able to catch (and use) it to find friends on Apple's new social music network. However, a short time later the Facebook integration was missing. What happened?

As it turns out, Apple was indeed having talks with Facebook to integrate the services on an unspecified level. We have to assume the ability to search and find friends as an absolute minimum requirement for the paring of the two companies (though wouldn't it be great if Apple created its own client that integrated with Facebook and iTunes? Hey, one can dream).

Apple friending FaceBook for iPhone OS 4?

Rumor has it Apple could be increasing their Facebook integration for iPhone OS 4, perhaps to include contact sync and messaging support for end users and Facebook Connect for developers.

Apple's relationship with social networks has been tentative at best, with Mac OS X 10.6 and iPhoto 09 offering rudimentary integration for things like photo tags. The Facebook app on the iPhone has done some contact syncing (initially with funny to off-putting results), but nothing thus far as hinted at Palm webOS or Microsoft Kin level integration.

iPhone at South by Southwest (SXSW) 2009 Roundup

South by Southwest (SXSW) 2009 is trendy, twitter-filling, and the source of increasingly social iPhone news releases. What's going on this year?

FaceBook connect comes to the iPhone. Sure, they may just have redesigned their home pages to basically become Twitter with invitations to apps you don't want and events on continents you can't attend, but behind the scenes:

Facebook on the iPhone: 1M Downloaded, "Connect" Service Launched

iPhone users sure love them some Facebook. In just two weeks following the launch of Apple's App Store, Facebook's Director of Mobile, Jed Stremel announced that the Facebook App for iPhone has been downloaded over 1,000,000 times. Whether those are unique downloads, and whether all downloaders are now using it consistently aren't known, but Facebook remains in the top-ten list for free apps and doesn't look to be going anywhere anytime soon.
