iOS 4.2 GM for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad released to developers

Now we know why Apple didn't release an updated iOS 4.2 beta for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad last week -- they just released the GM (Gold Master) for developers. This is the typically the final version given to developers ahead of time so they can test it on their apps and make sure everything is working before the release goes public.

No word yet on what if any changes or new features might have snuck into this iOS 4.2 build, but if you come across any let us know in comments or drop us a line.

Check out our complete iOS 4.2 beta walkthrough for the features so far.

UPDATE: AirPlay is still audio-only to Apple TV. Maybe iOS 4.2 for Apple TV will be required to enable that? There's a new AirPlay icon, however, and the multitasking dock has even more functionality than before. Pics after the break!

iOS 4 GM jailbroken one day within release

The Gold Master of iOS 4 that was just released yesterday after Steve Jobs WWDC keynote has already been jailbroken by msft.guy. This was accomplished by using some hackery along with the Dev Teams's existing Pwnagetool.

The Dev Team has stated that they do have a working jailbreak for the final iOS 4 but we will not see that until June 21st or shortly there after so it may be wise to hold off on this particular hack. But if you are feeling brave and just have to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS running the iOS 4 GM then feel free to give it a try using these directions here.

Video after the break!

iPhone SDK 3.2 GM Seed is now available. Starting today, all iPad apps submitted must be built using this release.

All members of the iPhone Developer Program can submit their iPad apps to iTunes Connect for review and approval. If you did not submit your app during the initial review period, but upload it by March 31, it will be reviewed but may not make the grand opening of the iPad App Store.

Make sure you read the iPhone SDK GM Seed Release Notes before installing and developing with this release.

Furthermore, 9to5Mac notes that an additional email has gone out to developers telling them they need those final apps in for approval by March 31, 5pm PDT. Any time after that and there's no guarantees your app will be in there for launch.

(And hey, if you want to help TiPb out with coverage of your iPad app,

iPhone 2.0: Going Gold This Friday?

Since Steve Jobs announced it back in March at the iPhone SDK Roadmap Event, the iPhone 2.0 firmware has seen 7 updates, some bringing with them interesting new features for consumers, others giving more tools to developers. Delivery date was said to be "late June" which for Apple typically means June 30th, 11:59pm, but is now expected to be closer to the July 11th iPhone 3G handset rollout.

One sign that they're nearing the end of the long road to 2.0 comes from Gizmodo, via what they claim are sources inside Apple's iPhone development group. What sign is it? A rumor that iPhone 2.0 will hit "gold master" this Friday, following the release of build 345.

Ladies and gentlemen, we may just have our FINAL version!
