The iPad version of the Google Search app received a pretty big update today. It features a revamped UI that provides feedback the moment you begin to type. After tapping a result, the page with load in a a new slide-in pane so that you can continue to scroll through results while it loads. You can also check out snapshots of pages you've visited in the new carousel view.

Check out the video of Google Search for iPad in action below.

Once you pick a web page to visit, you’ll see the page load on a new, slide-in pane that will layer over the search results. You can slide the pane to the right to get back to your search results, and even keep scrolling through the results as your web page is loading. This allows you to go back and forth from results to web pages quickly to get the information you are looking for.

Often you may be looking to find something you have seen before again or are continuing research on a topic. But on a tablet, typing can be a challenge. That is why we have created a visual way to explore your search history. Swipe right to view snapshots of pages you’ve visited, stacked and organized by search term. You can also manage your search history from this new view.

See search results and websites side-by-side to browse pages and results

Get to the right answer faster with Instant Previews and Google Instant

See images full-screen with image browsing

New visual UI for search history

Easy access to other Google apps

Google has released Google Translate for iPhone, a native iOS app that allows you to "speak to translate" in 15 different languages, with output support for up to 50 languages.

Google has released Google Translate for iPhone, a native iOS app that allows you to "speak to translate" in 15 different languages, with output support for up to 50 languages. Simply speak into your iPhone and the app will translate your speech into a number of different languages, even reading the text aloud for you:

Translate text between 57 languages

Translate by speaking the text instead of typing it (15 languages)

Listen to your translations spoken aloud (23 languages)

Display translations in full screen mode to make it easier for others nearby to read

Star your favorite translations for quick access even when you’re offline

Access your translation history even when you’re offline

Spell out the translation of non-Latin script languages (e.g. Chinese, Japanese, etc..) in Latin characters to read it phonetically (e.g. Pinyin, Romaji)

View additional dictionary results for single words or short phrases

Google Translate was previously available for iPhone but only through a webapp interface. With Google switching to a fully native version this lets users access a few additional features not available in the HTML5 version. It's pretty fun to use and it would make a great sidekick if you're traveling to a foreign country where you aren't familiar with the native language.

Give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments below!

Google Mobile App for iPhone has just added Google Goggles support. Goggles is the awesomely named camera-search based service that debuted on Android and lets you find information about something just by taking a picture of it.

In the new version of Google Mobile App just tap on the camera button to search using Goggles. Goggles will analyze the image and highlight the objects it recognizes -- just click on them to find out more.

You can see how it works in the video after the break. It's totally Star Trek, but it's also still a work in progress according to Google:

Computer vision is a hard problem and Google Goggles is still a Labs product. It works well for things such as landmarks, logos and the covers of books, DVDs and games. However, it doesn’t yet work for some things you might want to try like animals, plants or food.

Get it, it's hot.

Here at Smartphone Experts we use gmail for our main email and also use Google Apps Premier for our documents. Looks like we can add to the list of things that the iPhone excels at, business-wise: Google Apps. That list, by the way, is coming up shortly as a Wait-a-Thon post.

Meanwhile, if you, like us, use Google for business, your iPhone is now a great tool for that business:

Google has produced a new, generalized iPhone interface for its Google Apps suite of web applications. [...] To access the new interface, people should visit "http://www.google.com/m/a/your-domain.com" in Safari, where "your-domain.com" is replaced with a user's actual account domain. The new interface is currently only available for the English-language version of the Apps website. - [ipodnn]

Google's iPhone fixation continues apace. With any luck at at all, the release of the iPhone 2.0 software will mean that iPhone users will be able to catch up with Windows Mobile users and be able to install and use Google Gears, Google's offline app platform.

Update: Oh yeah, per the Google Blog, their stuff is now available in 33 countries and Google News' iPhone interface is now sweetness too.
