Ipad Launch 2010

Happy 2nd birthday, original iPad!

Two years ago today Apple released the original, first-generation iPad Wi-Fi. Decried by critics as a "big iPhone" it turned out that was just exactly what the mainstream market wanted, and the iPad has gone on to pretty much create it's own product category. Rather than a complicated, desktop-style experience, Apple produced something remarkably focused.

iPad: Six months later

It's been roughly 6 months since Apple launched the iPad -- April 3 for iPad Wi-Fi, April 20 for iPad Wi-Fi + 3G. Since then, millions and millions of us have bought iPads but that only proves the demand was there, it says nothing about how iPad has lived up to that demand. So we thought we'd take a moment and ask: how's it working out for you?

In what ways has it surprised and delighted you, and in what ways has it frustrated and disappointed you? Are you using it more than you thought you would or less? Has it replaced your iPhone, iPod touch, or laptop as your go to device, or is it occupying a niche between one or more of those?

Let us know you thoughts in the comments and follow on after the jump for mine.

iPad now available in China, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru

iPad is now available in China, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, as previously announced, and as Gizmodo points out, celebrating new Apple gears is a cross-cultural, seemingly universal phenomena.

[Han Ziwen became the first iPad owner in mainland China today, and was carried out of the Beijing Apple store on employees' shoulders. He even made a t-shirt for the occasion: "I BUY IPAD NO 1". Image via Getty]

Cue the folk music. Then go enjoy your new iPads.

LG says they can't make enough iPad screens, Apple may need to delay launches

Once again it looks like Apple might get some heat for something that it doesn't control -- namely the supply of iPad screens which LG now warns are constrained to the point international roll-outs might need to be delayed.

Given how much Apple does on their own, we sometimes forget they're still at the mercy of other companies -- even competing companies -- when it comes to components, like LG for screens, and Samsung for chips.

Following last Friday's first international launch, Apple today announced that they've sold 2 million iPads in under 2 months.

Apple began shipping iPad in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK this past weekend. iPad will be available in nine more countries in July and additional countries later this year.

“Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”
