Digitimes rumormongers that Apple expected to launch an 4G LTE powered “iPhone 4S” (sigh) this year (double sigh) but has had to push it back to 2012 due to problems with the Qualcomm chipsets.

Apple is likely to delay the launch of its LTE-enabled iPhones to 2012, said the sources, noting that the industry had also long been skeptical about the launch of LTE iPhones in 2011 as the implementation of LTE networks has not yet matured.

Of course, Apple wasn’t expected to ship an LTE iPhone in 2011, as they themselves have expressed — justifiable — concerns over battery life in current generation chipsets, and the proper Qualcomm radio isn’t expected to be available until iPhone 6 in 2012 anyway.

The 5th generation iPhone is expected to be announced and shipped sometime in the September/October timeframe in the US, though why on Jobs’ green earth would they call it iPhone 4S when it’s the 5th generation iPhone? (iPhone 3GS was the 3rd generation iPhone, a problem that needed fixing because they called the 2nd generation iPhone, iPhone 3G.)

So, yeah, let’s take that bit with a China sized grain of salt. What’s more interesting, and hopefully likely, is the second part — that it will boast an 8mp rear camera. Let’s hope that’s matched up with a new FaceTime HD up front.

John Carmack and id Software’s Rage and Rage HD for iPhone and iPad have been updated to version 1.11 and now boast Game Center integration, gyroscope support, and the ability to play via video-out cables on your TV using your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad as a controller. Full list below:

Folks, I have some news that will come as terrible blow to everyone. Verizon has just introduced what it claims to be a true no shit honest to goodness iPhone killer. Yes, I know… I’m in shock myself. Now, this is no ordinary iPhone killer. No siree, Bob. Nope, this revolutionary new phone from LG, dubbed Voyager, offers a set of features not found on anything else on the market; it has an HTML web browser (yes, real HTML, not that fake HTML found on other fones phones). It plays MP3 and WMA audio. It takes photos. And steal yourselves… it even has a MicroSD slot.

But pick yourselves off the floor for just a minute, because the news gets worse. In light of today’s news, Apple released a statement announcing plans to exit the handset business and shut down iPhone production, conceding the market to Verizon’s amazing new Voyager phone. Team, It is with great sadness that I must inform you that Verizon has upstaged us with the release of a new clone which completely and utterly mops the floor with iPhone. Rather than suffer the humiliation of trying to compete against such a product, I believe it is in the best interest for the company to abandon the phone market, and focus all our efforts on iPods and Mac sales.
