Iron Man

Review 11: The Winter Soldier

Ad hoc is our movie, television, and general nerdery podcast where a bunch of geeks get together to talk everything from the best flicks of 80s to the current blockbusters in the theater. This week Georgia, Guy, Rob, Rene, and Dave, talk Marvel Cinematic Universe, from Iron Man to Avengers, and then dive into the latest film, Captain America: The Winter Solider. And, yes, sigh, agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as well.

And, yeah, stay until after the credits...

Iron Man 3 now available on iTunes, JARVIS app for iPhone coming soon

Iron Man 3, the Shane Black-directed sequel to last year's phenomenal Avengers movie, is now available on iTunes and comes complete with iTunes Extras. What's more, a JARVIS app is coming next week for iPhone as well. Jarvis was originally Tony Stark's - very human - butler. When Marvel made the Iron Man movie, however, they re-imagined JARVIS as an artificially intelligent computer system to run Tony's house, and eventually his armor. Think Super Siri. While an actual JARVIS-class digital assistant with holographic multi dynamic gesture support is still the realm of Sci-Fi, here's what the iPhone app will do. From Marvel:

Iron Man 3 for iOS hands on with Gameloft at GDC 2013

Iron Man 3 is coming to movie theaters everywhere this may, and coming with it is Iron Man 3 for iOS by Gameloft. Simon and I had a chance to go hands on with it at GDC, and while he loved the fast-paced gameplay, they had me at Hulk Buster armor. And Silver Sentinel.

Marvel and Gameloft fantastic with their blend of mainstream movie design and old-style comic book lore. It gets the wide audience, but also makes longtime fans of Old Shell-head smile their golden Avengers off.

Excelsior, guys! Can't wait until this lands in the App Store!

New Iron Man 3 trailer is high on tech, low on laughs

The last Iron Man 3 trailer looked disturbingly like a Dark Knight Rises rehash and while the new one is slightly more fun, it still doesn't show much of the humor of the first two films. Given how belabored and off-key Dark Knight Rises was, I'm nervous.

Still, it's Old Shell Head looking even more Golden Avenger than usual, with War Machine getting the Iron Patriot paint on, and the often superb Ben Kingsley crammed into the many rings of the Mandarin, so while a lot could go wrong, there's still every chance the mighty Marvel movie machine gets this right. Or right enough that, come repulsor and uni-beam time, I won't care.

Iron Man 3 lands in theaters on April 25 or May 3, depending on where you live. In the meantime, there's tons of great content to load up on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. Here are some of my favorites.
