Great news for HBO fans! In an interview with Mossberg, HBO Co-President Eric Kessler said that HBO subscribers will be seeing HBO Go on their iPad’s soon.

In six months, HBO Go will be available to the channel’s paying subscribers at no additional cost through all major cable systems, on Apple Inc.’s iPad, on mobile devices and elsewhere.

In addition to this great news, Kessler also delivered the disappointing report that HBO and Netflix will likely not be making a deal, so don’t expect to see HBO shows on Netflix for iPad anytime soon.

If you’re an HBO subscriber, how excited are you to have access with your iPad? If you’re not a subscriber, will this additional feature entice you to sign up?

The grand old uncle of technology reviewers, Walter Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal loves him some iPhone. Indeed, ever since Apple’s little pocket universe-denter came out in 2007, it seems Mossberg can’t review another, similar device without mentioning the iPhone as much as the subject du jour.

As I mentioned last night on Twitter, however, with his Palm Pre review for D All Things Digital, Mossberg went a step further. Alongside roughly 40 or so iPhone references — including the title! — Mossberg interjects:

I’d note that the new iPhone to be unveiled next week will have lots of added features

Apple has both a new iPhone operating system and new iPhone hardware coming, likely available within a month

I expect to see an iPhone with up to 32 gigabytes of memory, video recording, a higher-resolution camera, a compass, and greater operating speed. Plus, there are persistent rumors that Apple will announce at least one iPhone at a drastically lower price than $199.

And in the video he goes on to say that, at WWDC:

There will be changes to the iPhone, not all of which are known

That’s a lot of iPhone info (Engadget thinks so as well). Our question remains:

Is Mossberg guessing, leaking, or was his Palm Pre video clip shot on a next generation iPhone?!

Yahoo! Finance is running some commentary from WSJ tech-guru Walt Mossberg and while everyone is quick to point out that Apple is not at his All-Things Digital D7 conference this year (that’s keeping all our sibling sites CrackBerry.com and PreCentral.net busy), they’re still the super smartphone in the room:

With the iPhone and iTouch, Apple is the “tip of the spear” when it comes to the next generation of handheld devices and what Mossberg is calling Web 3.0. The veteran tech journalist notes with awe the numbers Apple is putting up:

40M devices sold in 2 years

40K+ apps and 1 billion downloads in 10 months

That kind of excitement among developers, he says, hasn’t been seen since the arrival of PCs in the 80s and websites in the ‘90s.

Mossberg also, as per every statement Apple’s made to date, expects Steve Jobs back in late June. (Even as rumor has it Jobs paid a visit to Apple’s Cupertino headquarters as recently as yesterday!)

Update: Of course, it goes without saying that Walt steals his best content from us. Case in point, Dieter ranted about this way back in February. Really, though, we’re just glad that Walt (or at least Katie) is reading us on a regular basis.

Pre-eminent technology writer Walt Mossberg excoriates the mobile carriers in a recent article he posted to the Wall Street Journal and his personal site, All Things D. In terms of rants, his cup runneth over. Ranging from comparing the mobile carriers of the U.S. to communist-era “Soviet Ministries” to acknowledging the iPhone as the first U.S. cellphone to break the current mold, he throws many darts and hits the bulls-eye every time. Well, almost every time. He does gripe about the lack of official third party applications on the iPhone, which strikes me as impatient. Walt knows as well as anyone that third party apps should be available in February, so the ding against the iPhone there seems a bit disingenuous. It takes time to put an application developer’s toolkit together; especially when the device itself breaks so many new grounds. I’d be surprised if Apple was even done with the SDK they used internally; it’s likely still a work in progress. But, I digress. It’s a fantastic piece of work, and if regulation (or the threat of regulation) is what it takes to get mobile carriers to clean up their collective acts, then I welcome it. The money quote, or perhaps his thesis statement:

“A shortsighted and often just plain stupid federal government has allowed itself to be bullied and fooled by a handful of big wireless phone operators for decades now. And the result has been a mobile phone system that is the direct opposite of the PC model. It severely limits consumer choice, stifles innovation, crushes entrepreneurship, and has made the U.S. the laughingstock of the mobile-technology world, just as the cellphone is morphing into a powerful hand-held computer.”
