Fox Five reports on iPhone 5 lines in New York, then tells viewers it has a laser keyboard and holographic display

I'm sure you have all heard the old saying, "never let facts get in the way of a good story", well Fox News has certainly done just that. During a report by Fox Five which is aired in New York, a reporter was telling the story of how lines were already forming outside of the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue in anticipation of the iPhone 5 launch. Fox Five then inexplicably cut to a video showing an ultra-thin device which was actually a concept done way back in August 2011 and nothing like the iPhone 5 that we all saw announced last week. The report then goes on to explain some of the new features of the iPhone 5 and again they are all amazingly incorrect.

The Wall Street Journal has posted renderings of the proposed Apple Store for Grand Central Station. The pictures certainly appear to do this beautiful building justice and compliment its style and iconic image.

The MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) released some information on the proposed Apple Store which could open near the terminal’s east staircase, if approval is granted at tomorrow's meeting. Apple will start building works immediately, with a four month program of works; making an opening time of around late November or early December.

New York Plaza now has an iPad in every guest room [video]

The New York Plaza hotel has turned to the iPad to offer guests a little extra comfort during their stay. The rollout was completed in January and gives guests access to a huge list of features.

Some of the features include ordering of room service, restaurant reservations, wake up calls, city guides, check airline schedules and even printing of boarding passes. The iPad can even control the rooms lighting, heating and air conditioning as well as offering guests’ access to the web. The hotel worked with developer Intelity who customised its ICE software (Interactive Customer Experience) to provide the experience.

“Before in the guest rooms, we had another digital panel that controlled the lights, the temperature and some guest services," Shane Krige, general manager of The Plaza explained to Luxist. "But it wasn't sophisticated enough for what we wanted to do. So we teamed up with Intelity to devise the software for the program.” "We chose the iPad because it is a great piece of equipment that is here to stay and won't disappear tomorrow," adds Krige. "It brings another five star element to the hotel."

The iPad will not replace the current concierge service, but is meant to offer guests more choice should they wish to use it. The app will also be available in iTunes for guests to download and use on their iPhone too. There is a video after the break showing how it works!

Friday Fun Video: iPhone band performs on NY Subway

New York band Atomic Tom had their instruments stolen, so they rocked out with their back-up instruments - their iPhones! Each member of the band used an app on their iPhone to play a different part (drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, vocals). They gave a great performance on the New York subway; passengers can be seen bobbing their heads and getting into the music. This is the kind of thing I would love to see in person!
