Walmart is set to cut the price of the iPhone 4 to $114 on contract and the 8 GB iPhone 4 to $34 according to these price cards and their internal pricing console. These are $54 and $74 price drops respectively, but it doesn't seem like many (if any) Walmarts have pulled the trigger on the new pricetags just yet.

While the price cut isn't a huge deal in and of itself, it does suggest that a new iPhone is right around the corner. We're expecting the iPhone 5 to drop in the fall, but if Walmart is already trying to clear out old iPhone stock, maybe we'll see the next iOS smartphone sooner than later.

It's a little curious that it seems like these price cuts are just for the AT&T version; maybe Verizon and Sprint models will be included with this slash goes into effect, but it's tricky to say at this point. Anyone want to take bets about a new iPhone being announced at WWDC, or are we just going to see iOS 6?

UPDATE: Aaaaand it turned out to be a pricing error. Carry on, as you were.

Target and Radio Shack are dropping their prices on the iPhone 4. A lot of retailers typically do this to clear out inventory in anticipation for a new iPhone. We've seen it happen every year thus far.

If you're in the market for a new iPhone and don't care about waiting for the iPhone 5, you can get an iPhone 4 at Target for $149 (16 GB) and $249 (32 GB). Radio Shack also has a promotion this week cutting the prices to $169 and $269. If you trade in an existing iPhone, you can get an additional $100 off at Radio Shack.

As always, these prices will require you to sign a new 2-year agreement. I'd personally hold out for the iPhone 5 but if you aren't willing to shell out over $200 for a new phone, this may be the deal for you.

It appears VZBuzz has gotten their hands on some Verizon marketing material showing the iPhone 4 price dropping to $150.99. The screen also shows a plethora of Android and Blackberry price drops as well. I don't find it hard to believe this is legitimate as many carriers and retailers have been known to drop the price of the iPhone in anticipation of a new hardware announcement -- like iPhone 5 -- in order to clear out inventory.

Verizon currently offers refurbished iPhone 4's for $150, so could we see a price drop in those as well?

Apple is now selling the 8GB iPhone 3GS for $49, half the price is was just a week ago, matching AT&T's recent price drop.

While the hardware is 18 months old, the iPhone 3GS is fully updated to iOS 4.2.1 and runs it well. You'll miss out on FaceTime, the Retina Display, and the higher quality cameras for stills and video, but not much else. As a budget smartphone goes, it's killer. Still, $49 compared to a $199 iPhone 4 is peanuts when you compare the total cost with a 2 year contract. Oh, and this one won't run on Verizon...

Check out our complete 8GB iPhone 3GS review and let us know, up front savings make it compelling for you?

The Wall Street Journal today posted a comment from an analyst that Apple will remain "nimble" on iPad pricing and could lower it if demand is less than expected.

Um. Yeah. Okay. Did anyone, especially anyone who ever took Intro to Business 101, ever think anything different? Wait... Apple does.

They launched the iPhone 2G at a premium then cut the price, and then arranged carrier subsidies to further cut the end-user price to really drive demand. They don't drop price to help low-performing products. They drop price to send good performers into the stratosphere. (And 9to5mac has already heard rumors of carrier-subsidized iPad's in Europe -- can we imagine $50 or $100).

Put the iPhone price drop curve next to the Apple TV price drop curve if you need any further convincing.

Kthxanalyzethis
