The Dev Team has released a small update to PwnageTool and redsn0w to fix an issue with the side vibration/ringer switch for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

If you’re already jailbroken at 4.3.3 (by either redsn0w rc15 or custom IPSW), you can install this fix simply by running redsn0w rc16 over your existing 4.3.3 jailbreak. Just uncheck the “Install Cydia” option and check any other options you want. The fix will be installed no matter what you’ve selected. This is safe for even ultrasn0w unlockers to do (because redsn0w itself won’t update your baseband…only an iTunes stock IPSW update/restore will do that).

Here's our how to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.3 tutorial, with a video walkthrough, if you want the step-by-step.

The bug was smashed by @i0n1c. Other improvements include removing the need for Windows 7 and Vista users to set their CPU affinity -- they can just run as Administrator in WinXP compatibility mode now.

As you can see from the tweet above, the Dev Team has updated their popular PwnageTool to support an untethered jailbreak under iOS 4.3.2. You now have the option of using either PwnageTool or redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2.

We have experienced some issues with jailbreaking iOS 4.3.2. Some users say they have had issues as well while others are perfectly fine. I'm personally staying on 4.2.1 for now since I have no compelling reason to upgrade.

The updated version of PwnageTool is available at the link below. It supports the following devices -

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4 (GSM)

iPod touch 3G

iPod touch 4G

iPad First generation

So iPad 2 users and Verizon iPhone users need not apply. And a final note to unlockers - you should only ever use a custom IPSW when upgrading firmware. While ultrasn0w will unlock your iPhone running iOS 4.3.2, that only applies if you are running an older baseband. So never restore to a stock firmware in iTunes because that will not preserve your baseband! Check out more details and grab your download from the link below!

The Dev-Team will be releasing the official tools for an untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak tonight. Both Redsn0w and PwnageTool will be available within the next 24 hours and will support all iOS devices including the iPhone 4 and latest generation iPod touch, but will not yet be compatible with the iPad 2.

Over the weekend the Dev-Team let the world know that if #sundayisfunday started trending on Twitter they'd release an untethered jailbreak shortly after. It has since been confirmed that they're planning to release the official tools at GMT-8, which should translate for us in the US and Canada to the following times:

12AM Pacific

1AM Mountain

2AM Central

3AM Eastern

It's been a long time coming, but it looks like we'll finally be able to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 without needing to tether to a PC or Mac each time a reboot is required. We're not sure when a jailbreak will be out for the iPad 2, but we've heard rumblings of something in the works from Comex. The Dev-Team may hold out on an iPad 2 jailbreak to make sure Apple doesn't patch hardware vulnerabilities with the iPhone 5, but with rumors that we won't see the iPhone 5 in June this year they may end up releasing a tool sooner rather than later.

Will you be jailbreaking after Redsn0w and PwnageTool are released tonight? Let us know in the comments!

The Phone Dev Team's PwnageTool, which allows for the Jailbreak of iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV, has been updated to version 4.2 and now is untethered and fixes

The Phone Dev Team's PwnageTool, which allows for the Jailbreak of iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV, has been updated to version 4.2 and now is untethered and fixes issues with iBooks.

With [Chronic Dev Team's] permission, we’ve incorporated their 4.2.1 “feedface” untether into today’s PwnageTool 4.2. This means iPhone unlockers can safely restore to a custom 4.2.1 pre-jailbroken IPSW and retain their current baseband and unlock.

PwnageTool also includes two very recent improvements to the 4.2.1 JB: iBooks was just fixed by @comex and @pushfix last night so that it works as intended on DRMed books, and the wifi problem on AppleTV 2G was fixed by @nitotv, @DHowett, and @saurik. Both of these fixes will also be available in upcoming Cydia package updates, so if you’re already jailbroken you can wait for those updates rather than restore and jailbreak again.

If PwnageTool is your preferred Jailbreak, go get it via the link below (they have mirrors posted as well) and tell us how it works for you! If you need help, head on over to the Jailbreak Forum.

I've been receiving a lot of questions about the state of current jailbreaks, especially when it comes to the just released iOS 4.3 beta and the Verizon iPhone (demo models ran iOS 4.2.5). The jailbreak community is working on a jailbreak but they have stated it will not come out as long as iOS 4.3 is in beta. There's a good reason for this. Most jailbreakers already realize it's a cat and mouse game with Apple.

If one of the dev teams has an exploit, they don't want to burn it. If they release it now, Apple can patch it before the final release and it's of use to no one. Unlocker @MuscleNerd isn't planning on releasing an unlock until iOS 4.3 is official, and for good reason. Here's what he has to say -

Official iPhone unlock statement: no unlock will be released until after 4.2.5 or official 4.3 (whichever is last) is out

I can't imagine a general jailbreak tool being any different. No point burning exploits for no good reason. So on that front, just be patient. And as always, don't upgrade right away if you plan on jailbreaking.

In the mean time, you can make sure you save your SHSH blobs if you're already jailbroken. You can also read through our jailbreak starter's guide if you're curious but new to the jailbreak scene.

Please note that redsn0w is currently a tethered jailbreak. There is a redsn0w beta out that allows for an untethered jailbreak but it's still got issues. I personally recommend staying on 4.1 until an easier (less buggy) solution is available if you can.

Keep in mind you always need to check your device type against each of these methods to make sure it's compatible. Click through to the links for more detailed descriptions of each and what they can offer you. If you still have questions, make sure to check out the TiPb jailbreak forums.

Seas0nPass has just been released for jailbroken AppleTV users. Up until now, there hasn't been easy to use jailbreak tools for the AppleTV. Hopefully Seas0nPass can change all that.

Seas0nPass offers some of the same basic functionality utilities like PwnageTool already offers iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users. It will currently jailbreak the most current version of AppleTV iOS (4.2.1). Seas0nPass for AppleTV also offers an easier tethered boot option as well as an ability to create and restore from custom firmwares (IPSW) files. This will be nice for users on newer firmwares that may not offer an untethered option yet.

Currently Seas0nPass is only available for Mac users running Mac OS 10.6 or later but a Windows version should be coming soon.

Seas0nPass is available for free and the code is open source and available on Github now. If you give it a try, let us know how it works for you!

With iOS 4.2.1 being released to the masses today, here's a couple tips for jailbreakers. If you're on iOS 4.1 and jailbroken, by this point you should know how to save your SHSH blobs via TinyUmbrella or Cydia.

As of right now, most jailbreak methods that work on iOS 4.2.1 are pretty hairy. I highly suggest waiting to upgrade for the official tools, but if you feel the need to give it a try right now, I've put up an iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak guide in our forums. Ask questions, give answers, and help eachother out. You can always visit our general jailbreak forum and post other questions and find answers about other topics as well.

Whatever you decide to do, let us know how it works for you!

Update: The Dev-Team has updated their blog giving everyone a bit more information about iOS 4.2.1 and how it'll affect all devices. Make sure you read it and heed their warnings when updating. It's looking like older devices will have an easy upgrade route to a jailbreakable 4.2.1. Newer devices are (as of now) tethered. I urge anyone who wants to upgrade to weigh their options before deciding to upgrade. You may lose your jailbreak or be tethered. A tethered jailbreak basically means if your phone battery dies or you need to reboot, you'll need to be connected to a computer to enter into a jailbreak state again. They're somewhat of a pain and I'd suggest waiting for an untethered jailbreak. You probably won't be waiting long. Until then, make sure you have your 4.1 SHSH blobs saved via Cydia or TinyUmbrella!

Here it is, PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac OS X, and it's good to go for Apple TV (2010), iPad 3.2.2, iPod touch (2010), iPod touch (2009), iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G.

PwnageTool allows you to restore to a custom IPSW file. For instance, you can restore to a pre-jailbroken firmware while simultaneously maintaining your current baseband (and thus your ultrasn0w carrier unlock). You can also add whatever packages you want in the “Expert” mode of Pwnage

Apple TV is obviously a big addition here:

Welcome to the JB family! Right now, about all you can do is command-line stuff via ssh. You also have afc2 available, so you can use tools like ifunbox to move files around. These are the very early days of AppleTV 2G jailbreaking, so it’ll take some time for JB app developers to come up with methods to use your AppleTV 2G from the remote, versus the command line. PS: Your ssh password is “alpine”…please change it when you can

As always, proceed at your own risk, but if you try it out, let us know how it works for you.

iPhone Dev Team's MuscleNerd has announced via twitter that Comex's Userland Tools can be used to keep all Apple A4 chipset-based, Jailbroken iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads untethered for all future firmware releases. Coupled with Geohot's limera1n exploit which will work on all current A4 devices for the duration of their lifespan, and iPhone Dev Teams custom pwnagetool which will keep your baseband unlockable, Jailbreakers can look forward to being up to date with all current firmware releases without any worry of losing their Jailbreak or Unlock status.

Pwnagetool lets you create custom firmware with older baseband to preserve unlock (iPhone 4 owners can also use TinyUmbrella)

Comex Userland Tools are built into both limera1n and greenpois0n to keep Jailbreak untethered.

Geohot Exploit is a bootrom-level exploit that can't be closed without new hardware from Apple.

Does this make you more likely to Jailbreak? Tell us what you think below or visit our Jailbreak Forum for more.

Every week a few of us from team TiPb, bloggers and forum crew alike, will bring you our current favorite, funnest, most useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they're iPhone (or iPod touch) related, they're fair game.

So who's on deck this week and what are our picks? Find out after the break!

Chad's Pick: Blades of Fury

If there is one game genre the iPhone is lacking in it has to be fighting games. Well, the wait is over folks, Blades of Fury is one awesome game. The best way to think of it is an amazing port of Soul Calibur; this game is really that good. The touch controls work surprisingly well and you can even play you own iPod music. What is it missing? Online multiplayer, but then again, so are many games If you like fighting games, especially using the weapons-based Soul Calibur fighting mechanic, you will love Blades of Fury! [$6.99 - iTunes link]

Chris' Pick: PwnageTool 3.1.3.

For people who have a iPhone 3Gs (like me), who has been waiting for jailbreak (like me), this is great news. While there is a PC version (yet? opinion seems to be varied as to their intent, or lack of intent, to release a new PC version of redsn0w), this is still a great step forward for those of us who have patiently been waiting for a jailbreak of 3.1. Jailbreakers can now start to experience some of the fun of the 3.1 update. [Free - Web link]

James' Pick: Newsstand

In my eternal search for the perfect Google Reader app, I find myself loving Newsstand. Reliable sync of all of my feeds and the storge of offline images make this my go to app! [$4.99 - iTunes link]

Matt's Pick: Mailbox Find

Mailbox Find is an app that tells you were the closest mailbox for either USPS (or post offices), FedEx or even UPS. With my most recent job, I was asked to drop a letter in the mailbox. Not knowing the area real well, I was able to open the app and it gave me some of the closest mail boxes in the area. It kept me from spending too much time hunting for a mailbox in the area (or driving across the city to go to the one I actually knew of. If you want to search a certain zip code for mailboxes, you can also do that. [$0.99 - iTunes link]

Rene's Pick: RedLaser

So I go to the book store with a friend, who sees many cute and wonderful and engaging books, and I see the full retail price quickly adding up in my brain like one of those old fashioned whirling cash registers. Luckily I had RedLaser's barcode scanner and product finder on my iPhone, so I whipped it out, scanned away, and proceeded to add the books up in Amazon for quite a bit less. My friend saw how much less the total was, dumped the books back on the shelves, and everyone was happy (except for the book store, no doubt). Bottom line, I've been waiting for this on the iPhone ever since I saw the Android G1 show it off almost a year ago. And it works great. [$1.99 - iTunes link]

It was just one day ago we mentioned that a new PwnageTool was on the horizon and for those iPhone 3GS owners who stayed on 3.0, your patience has paid off as the latest PwnageTool for Mac OS X has been release by the Dev-Team. If you couldn't wait and you updated your iPhone 3GS to 3.1 via iTunes, you have a slight problem as you will not be able to jailbreak.

The iPhone 3GS is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 - PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box. If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment.

For the full details be sure to check out the Dev-Teams blog and make sure you fully understand what you are getting yourself into before attempting a jailbreak.

If you don’t understand the process, do not attempt it, and as always - TiPb takes no responsibility for the outcome. Need help? Check out our iPhone Jailbreak and Unlock forum.

For those of you who have patiently been waiting to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS with the 3.1 software, your patience is about to pay off. According to MuscleNerd all of the testing is complete and the new PwnageTool is almost ready to be released to the public.

Regarding the iPhone 3GS 3.1 software unlock, if you have already updated to the official 3.1, there still is no known way to unlock your device. In order to unlock the 3.1 software on a iPhone 3GS, this next version of the PwnageTool will be needed to make a custom IPSW file to preserve the 04.26.08 baseband firmware. Again -- that older baseband is needed if you plan on unlocking your device successfully.

Stay tuned as we will bring you the news when the latest PwnageTool drops.

[Thanks to mysterio for the tip!]

The Dev Team have updated their blog to let the jailbreakers of the world know how to go about jailbreaking iPhone 3.1. It seems as if Apple has really thrown a monkey wrench into jailbreaking the 3.1 software, however, so sit tight as this may be a bit confusing...

First and foremost they have released the PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac OS X that should only be used with the original iPhone and iPhone 3G. Sorry 3GS owners, you'll have to wait. Be sure to heed some of the Dev Teams warnings before attempting to jailbreak your device.

If you are using a 3G iPhone with ultrasn0w and rely on ultrasn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should only upgrade to 3.1 with a PwnageTool created .ipsw. - Stay away from Apple’s direct updates.

If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.1 unlock works with this PwnageTool release. iPhone 3G users upgrading to 3.1 will need to continue using ultrasn0w with a PwnageTool created 3.1 .ipsw

PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.

For the full rundown please visit the Dev Teams blog and make sure you fully understand what you are getting yourself into before attempting to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.

If you don't understand it, don't do it, and TiPb takes no responsibility for the outcome either way. Need more? Check out TiPb's Forums.

Cool. Who else loves this cat and mouse game that Apple and the iPhone dev team have with one another? First one goes and the other quickly follows, you gotta admit, at the very least it makes for good theater. At best? Well, a jailbroken iPhone of course!

This time around 2.0.2 has been pwned and is available to us via Pwnage Tool 2.0.3. It's Mac-Only so Windows users will have to use QuickPwn. PwnageTool 2.0.3 includes the newest build of Installer.app. Heads up to those waiting for QuickPwn to come to the Mac (I am), they state that it's about a week away.

But bad news for those still looking for a baseband unlock of the iPhone 3G since there are no significant updates on that front. Well, I guess we can't have everything right?

This is fun. It's like a game of cat and mouse between Apple firmware and the jailbreaking community, Apple launches an update and the iPhone-dev team works feverishly to jailbreak said update. This time, they are said to be putting the finishing touches on PwnageTool 2.0.2 which will be able to jailbreak the "snappier" 2.0.1.

Excited much? Well, there still won't be Installer.app because Installer 4 isn't ready for the primetime yet but a new version of Cydia will be there so you can still get some apps. There still is a lot of catching up to do on developing jailbroken apps and it still won't unlock the iPhone 3G, but all in due time. We'll follow up with a link to PwnageTool 2.0.2 when it is released.
