Curious about how to remove the photos that iCloud stores in your Photo Stream? Maybe you have a few controversial pictures you need to clear out of the stream before letting a friend use your iPhone or iPad?

With iOS 5 and iCloud, Apple introduced Photo Stream to keep your photos synced between devices. By default, photos are automatically deleted after 30 days or after you cross the 1,000 photo threshold, but what if you need to manually remove them? We'll show you how after the jump!

Getting Started

To get started, you'll need to navigate to iCloud.com from the desktop in order to access advanced iCloud preferences. Once you're there, just follow these quick steps to reset Photo Stream and clear out your pictures.

Once you're at iCloud.com on the desktop, click on your name in the upper-right hand corner.

From the Account Settings pane, click on 'Advanced'.

Now, click 'Reset Photo Stream' to begin the process.

Finally, you'll be asked to confirm before iCloud erases all contents in your Photo Stream.

And that's it!

I'd run a quick check on your iPad or Mac to make sure all the photos have been fully removed from the Photo Stream before handing over your iDevice to a friend, but this process should do the trick if you're looking to clear out or reset your Photo Stream contents.

Tips of the day will range from beginner-level 101 to advanced-level ninjary. If you already know this tip, keep the link handy as a quick way to help a friend. If you have a tip of your own you’d like to suggest, add them to the comments or send them in to dailytips@tipb.com.
Looks like Apple has just reset Game Center, their new social gaming network, and any developers testing the service on the Gold Master (GM) seed are now greeted with a "create new account" screen. Moreover, all existing Friends are gone, meaning if you intend to keep connected when iOS 4.1 goes live this week, you'll have to send and approve your friend requests all over again.

That is, if Apple doesn't reset it again before launch. But that's what development builds are for, right?

UPDATE: Apple has also confirmed compatibility for Game Center:

iPhone 4, iPod touch 4

iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3

iPod touch 2

Yup, no iPhone 3G listed. Can't wait to hear why not...

Welcome to iPhone 101, where TiPb helps new iPhone users use their new iPhones -- or just gives you a handy link to send to your new iPhone using friends.

This time we're tackling something near and dear to every child-caring adult's heart: how to resent your iPhone Home Screen to default. Because as we all know, you let your child at your iPhone, and they can switch around your icons -- even blank your Home Screen -- in no time flat (and yes, the above is a real screenshot of an iPhone after a 3 year old spent about 5 minutes on it...)

Luckily, there must be a lot of parents at Apple, because they've made it lickity-split simple to restore.

From the home screen, tap Settings (yeah, if you can find it -- but at least they can't delete that or any built-in application).

From Settings, hit General, then choose Reset.

From the Reset menu, choose Reset Home Screen Layout. When it asks you to confirm, tap the big red Reset Home Screen button.

And you're done. Your iPhone's icons will be back to the way Apple ships them... until your child gets a hold of them again!

Thanks to CoreLocation in the iPhone SDK, Apps can make use of WiFi, Cell, and A-GPS (for the iPhone 3G) information to keep track of where you are. Your Twitter feed can be tagged with your current location, or can show you just those contacts in a certain vicinity. A movie app can automatically fetch show times for all the theaters in a certain radius. A to-do app can pop up location-based (rather than just time-based) alerts, reminding you to help your mom change a lightbulb next time you're there, or ping you when you pass the electronics store so you remember to pick up that cable you need.

Convenient? You bet. Powerful? A game changer. Invasive? Er... Could certainly be.

What if you don't always want whereabouts broadcast, if you don't want everyone to know (or potentially be able to find out) where you are, when you're out shopping, where that picture of your child was taken?

Read on to find out how apps ask for permission to use your location, how you can change your mind and make them ask you again, or how you can turn off location services completely.

Apple enforces a policy that requires apps to pop up a requester asking your permission several times before defaulting to location aware status. In my tests, every newly downloaded app will ask for permission until it's agreed to twice. So, if you say "Okay" twice in a row, it will stop asking and begin using your location. However -- and unfortunately -- the same doesn't hold true for "Don't Allow". Using Apple's Camera and App Store apps, I said "Don't Allow" ten times in a row and it kept asking. Then said "Okay", "Don't Allow", and "Okay" again, and on the second "Okay" it stopped asking.

While Apple should, of course, allow users to just as easily default to a non-location aware state through some combination of repeated denials over time, they have baked in a couple of options for the privacy and security minded of us.

To disable Location Services completely, tap Settings, tap General, and then slide the Location Services switch to the "off" position. (You can always turn them back on when/if you want to use them later.)

To force apps to ask your permission again before using your location, scroll to the bottom of the General Settings, tap Reset, then tap Reset Location Settings. Next time you fire up Camera, Maps, or Apps like Twitterrific, Showtime, etc. they'll ask you again if they can use your current location, and you can agree or decline on a per-App basis.

And voila: control restored!
