Ringtonium is simple and easy to use, and best of all saves you money by letting you use your already purchased songs as ringtones.

Ringtonium is the best app for creating custom ringtones -- and alert tones -- on your iPhone. While record labels are happy to resell you ringtones for the same tracks you've already bought -- often at the same or even higher prices than the full song -- if you don't mind a few quick steps, you can save some money and get exactly the ringtone you want, exactly the way you want it.

Although there are plenty of ringtone creation apps available in the App Store to do just that, none of them are a well rounded or useful as Ringtonium. The user-interface is extremely easy to use and builds on some of the unique syncing abilities available in iTunes, along with a number of outside apps like SoundCloud, and of course social network sharing.

Dialing down to specific start and stop times with Ringtonium's fine-tune slider and associated dial

Upon launching the app you'll be asked to choose between an existing track from the iPod music library, or creating your own track by using the iPhone's built-in microphone. Once you've got a track to work with, you can then jump into the mix and get into the details with a fine-tuned audio scrubber for selecting your start and stop times. If you need even more control over your start/stop times, Ringtonium offers a dial with the ability to drill down to milliseconds for absolute precision.

If you chose to record from the microphone, the quality is remarkably high and distortion free, even at higher input volumes. That's surprising and very welcome.

Adding effects in Ringtonium using their built-in FX feature is easy

Ringtonium also has an included FX panel where you can add fade in and fade out, adjust the pitch or reverse the audio, and add flange or echo effects. The quality of the included effects are top-notch and Ringtonium lets you go for the longest ringtone duration Apple allows -- something most other ringtone apps haven't caught onto yet.

Exporting custom ringtones with Ringtonium

The Good

Fast to use

Well thought out design and user interface layout.

Supports exporting using iTunes or with 3rd party cloud integration.

Fine-tuned slider and dialer let you set perfect start/stop times.

Modify or delete custom ringtones within the app -- no iTunes required!

Video tutorials included.

The Bad

Cannot mix/combine multiple tracks.

Limited built-in FX.

The conclusion

Ringtonium is simple and easy to use, and best of all saves you money by letting you use your already purchased songs as ringtones. If you've been looking for the best ringtone app for your iPhone, look no further than Ringtonium -- it's the best option currently available and excels in every area.

$0.99 -- App Store Link

New to iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad and curious how to set up a new ringtone, change a wallpaper, or arrange your app icons and folders, and otherwise personalize it and make it your own? Luckily these tasks can be completed quite simply, so let's take a look at how they are done.

How to change your wallpaper

this only covers some of the basics, it gives you a way to personalize your device and begin the process of making it your very own.
Ringtonium, the popular ringtone creation app, just got better. It now has a wheel for fine-tuning the beginning and end of the chosen clip for your ringtone. It also has a mic so that you can record your own sounds and effects.

I played around with Ringtonium, and it's a fantastic little app. The UI looks nice and is super easy to use. The adjustment wheel is really what differentiates this app from being good to being great. Say goodbye to awkwardly cut off ringtones, now you can fine-tune them to end at just the perfect spot.

Way easier than you could expect interface, clean and slim HD design with super accurate ringtone start/end adjusting wheel. Meet new Ringtonium 2.0.

Endless number of ringtones absolutely free

Longest ringtone length time Apple ever allowed

High quality ringtone sound from your favorite music

Best customer support video integrated in the app

Super easy to use navigation

iOS 5 retina redesign

NEW help video added

SoundCloud integration (approved by musicians)

On a Mac and wondering how to get free ringtones for your iPhone? We all know you can purchase or create ringtones in iTunes but... they can be limited in functionality or selection. Luckily GarageBand, which is part of the the iLife suite, has the ability to create ringtones built right in.

The process isn't too difficult and you can fine tune them however you like; including fade ins, fade outs, splicing sections together, and more.

After you choose the song you want to use, you'll need to drag it into GarageBand. For iLife 11 users, you'll need to do these steps first. If you're using an older version of iLife, you can simply skip to the next section.

iLife 11 users, do this first

If you want to use a song that was purchased from iTunes (a .m4r file), GarageBand is picky about you dragging those in as of iLife 11, so you'll need to change the format from .m4r to .mp3 before dragging it in.

Drag the file from iTunes you'd like to use for your ringtone to your desktop.

Change the extension from .m4r to .mp3

Finder will prompt you asking if you're sure you want to change it. Click use .mp3

Now move on to the next section.

Making a ringtone

Drag your song into GarageBand, you should see something similar to above (if GarageBand opened a virtual keyboard, just x it out). I also go to the counter and change it to time instead of measures (located on the bottom). That's up to you. It's just personal preference.

Now expand the view by clicking the tiny scissor icon in the bottom left hand corner of GarageBand (it's the third icon from the left in most versions of GarageBand.

The expanded view should look like the screen above. This view allows you to highlight and cut sections out as well as finer tune your selection.

Now comes the Apple loop part, next to your play/pause/forward controls to the right, you should see the button above. Click it and you will now see a yellow bar that you can adjust appear above your song in the top section of GarageBand.

Simply slide this bar back and forth to select the portion of the song you'd like to make a ringtone out of. You can increase and decrease the length by dragging it at the beginning or end as well. Just make sure it's under 30 seconds total.

Those are all the steps to create your ringtone, the video also explains a few more options as far as fading in and out as well as cutting and splicing so be sure to check that out as well.

Import your ringtone into iTunes

Now all that's left to do is to send the ringtone to iTunes.

At the top of GarageBand click Share.

Next select Send ringtone to iTunes

iTunes should pop open and import your ringtone automatically.

Now just sync your iPhone and the new ringtone and you're done!

That's all there is to it! You can create as many ringtones as you want this way without paying any additional money. If you run into issues, check out our TiPb forums for more help and suggestions!

Welcome to From the Forums. If you are curious as to what all of the hot topics are on the TiPb forums, this is the place to be. In order to create any new threads of your own or reply to any of the following threads, you must be a registered member. Becoming a member is a simple process that will only take a few minutes out of your day, so if you haven’t already, head on over and register now.

First post on the agenda today comes to us from xultar, and he has a question for all of you iPhone owners who have chosen not to jailbreak your device, why have you not taken the jump to jailbreak your iPhone?

Next up we have a thread started by naviwilliams and he would like to know which email service do you prefer - Yahoo or Gmail and what are some of the pros and cons of each? Stop by this poll thread and cast your vote!

Earlier today forum member, supermanfos, posted a article regarding the upcoming Tom Tom GPS Car Kit and it's pricing. So what do you think? Is this something you will spend your hard earned money on or will you stick with applications such as G-Map that are already in the App Store?

Last but not least, TiPb would like to remind everyone about our new forum dedicated to iPhone wallpapers and ringtones. We encourage you all to share some of your favorites with all of the forum members here at TiPb.

See you on the forums!

It's that time again where TiPb selects some of the hottest topics on the forums and spotlights them right here. In order for you to reply to any of the following threads, you must be a registered member. Becoming a member is a painless process that will only take a few minutes of your time, so if you haven’t already, head on over and register now.

First thread for today revolves around iPhone hardware and how well it's held up for you. So how is your iPhone hardware? Did you get a device that is pretty much perfect or are you one of the unlucky people who got a lemon? So far the majority of forum members are very happy with their defect-free iPhones. Cast your vote now!

Next up we have forum member, rrrl17, posing an interesting question - what do you think about Apple adding a extra button on iPhone? My personal opinion is if it is not broke, don't fix it. What are you thoughts on this one?

So you say the ringtones that comes preloaded on iPhone just don't cut it for you. Well if you are in need of a certain ringtone and can't seem to find it - check out the following thread started by Live Free, Ringtone Requests. This is the perfect place to get that hard to find ringtone that you've been searching for.

Today's final thread is very straight forward - what is your favorite Twitter application? You have a ton of them to choose from. Anything from Tweetie, Twitterriffic, Twitbit, Tweetdeck, etc... the list goes on and on. What's your favorite?

It is time for From the Forums, this is where TiPb selects some of the hottest topics on the forums and spotlights them right here.
First up today, TiPb would like to introduce you to a new sub-forum, iPhone Wallpaper and Ringtones. Have some ringtones or wallpapers you would like to share with the community? This is the place to go. Just be sure to properly label your thread so other members have a better understanding of what you've posted. We've even hooked up a couple Official TiPb Wallpapers to get your started.

Next up we have a thread that was started by member Erika78, why did you switch to the iPhone? We all have our reasons for making the switch from another phone so drop by this thread and list a few of yours. If you have yet to make the switch from your BlackBerry to an iPhone, chances are you will any day now.

If you spend any time on our forums chances are that you like discussing all things related to technology. Apple, Palm, HTC, BlackBerry, etc... head to the Cross Platform and Other Gadget forum. Want to compare two devices? Perhaps just chat about a soon to be released phone? This is the forum to be to in.

Apple Insider brings word that Apple has filed a patent for:

an ambient sound sensor to the iPhone that would allow the handset to adjust its ringtone volume to its surrounding audio environment, which would ameliorate potentially-disruptive audio outputs.

Sounds nifty! In addition, Apple has also filed for a patent for self-cleansing audio jacks:

An alternative cleansing method would allow the end portion of the adaptor plug to rotate freely through the application of compressed air. This method, Apple said, would force debris from the jack as the adaptor plug is removed and the switches that hold the plug in the jack are closed.

Of course, many of these patents never see the light of day, but we like that Apple is exploring many different alternatives for future iPhone development.

With the super-fast new 3G iPhone Steve Jobs will all but certainly announce this June, it makes sense that Apple would want to provide services that exploit all that delicious

With the super-fast new 3G iPhone Steve Jobs will all but certainly announce this June, it makes sense that Apple would want to provide services that exploit all that delicious bandwidth, like over-the-air (read: via cell as opposed to WiFi or local sync) ringtones, ringbacks (shudder!), and iTunes Music Store purchases. Sounds great! You're on the road, away from your WiFi and your computer, and you hear a great song, and it's available right there via 3G HSDPA download. More songs for us, more content for Apple, and more money for the artists, right?

Wrong. Enter the record labels, who reportedly think that if you buy a song over 3G as opposed to WiFi on your computer, it should somehow give them MORE money. That's right, a bigger cut for them, meaning higher cost to Apple, meaning (unless Apple eats it like they are with movie sales right now), higher cost to us.

Makes, sense: be given a bigger, more convenient market... demand higher prices.

Where did these guys come from? Did I miss some late-night infomercial...?

Hey kids, want to work out of a gold-plated office, create nothing of your own, yet make millions of dollars a year? Well, you're in luck, simply become a recording executive, rope desperate young bands into quasi-indentured servitude whereby you "front" them money for everything from making a CD to the lobster salad on the buffet during your first "meeting", and fleece consumers for $20 a CD, which cost pennies to burn, contain more filler cr@p than killer tracks, and you own exclusive distribution for!

But wait, there's more! Act now and you can also go to court and get a ruling saying ring tones are derivative works that you don't have to pay artists for, and then insist they aren't derivative works and charge customers $3 to rent one for 3 months!

We're not done yet! Fail to strap a licensing mechanism on the original Napster, thereby creating a generation of kids who don't understand paying for music, only to get rescued by Apple and their easy-peasy $0.99 iTunes store, of which they pay all development, hosting and infrastructure, credit card transaction charges, marketing, etc. while still giving you 70%. And all you have to do is withhold DRM-free music from them and offer it only to their competition!

Still not enough? Find out the number-one music retailer's ultra-hot iPhone is getting a 3G bump that will not only provide you ridiculous ringtone and ringback (see layer of hell, 644th) sales opportunities, but also over-the-cell-network music purchases, the ultimate in tech-crack impulse purchasing options, with no additional cost or effort for you, AND ASK FOR AN EVEN BIGGER CUT.

That's right! Act now and force customers to pay more for shorter cuts and to download over cell as opposed to WiFi! You deserve it! You're entitled! And you don't care a flying fig about consumers!

Read Via
