UPDATED: TiPb heard back from the developer, and sure enough, it’s their app 4.0, nothing to do with iPhone OS 4.0. Move along. Notiong to see here…

CNET is reporting, and others are picking up, that a developer sent them a note saying:

“Just wanted to give you a heads up that we’ve submitted an updated app for the new iPhone OS 4.0 software.”

Well, TiPb got a note from a developer worded exactly the same way:

I’ve sent you some news about [redacted] before, but just wanted to give you a heads up that we’ve submitted an updated app for the new iPhone OS 4.0 software.

However, we also got a personal note from the developer that read:

We just released [redacted] 4.0 for iPhone.

And if you follow the link to their blog:

[Redacted] 4.0 has been released!

TiPb feels there’s a strong chance we will indeed see the first iPhone 4.0 beta soon, perhaps at Apple’s rumored January 27th event, and while this could be a “leak”, it looks to us like it could just as easily have been a wrongly worded press mailing. It’s not their application for iPhone 4.0, it’s version 4.0 of their application for the current iPhone OS.

That rumored deal whereby China Unicom was purchasing 5 million Wi-Fi-less iPhones for a huge introduction to the world’s biggest cellular market? Turns out not so much with the 5 million according to a China Unicom spokesperson.

“Talks between us and Apple have been going on for some time, but no agreement has been reached yet,” said Unicom spokesman Yi Difei. “There are all kinds of possibilities. There is no particular timetable for the talks.”

We get it, big deal, big complications. Still, the iPhone has to hit China sometime, right? (Other than, you know, massive amounts of gray market imports…)

Turns out that leaked black bezel that made the internet rounds prior to the iPhone 3GS’ rounds was… actually for a Creative Zii Egg. Says CNET Asia provides the picture, and MacRumors the short version:

The Zii Egg is a multi-touch iPod touch-like device that runs Google’s Android operating system. The device, though, bears a strong resemblance to the leaked bezel images, suggesting that it had simply been mislabeled all along.

Hey, at least now we know. Though, admittedly, the nearly intoxicating swarm of pre-release rumors are much more fun than the cold, headachy, post-release rumor smashing that followers…

That Russian website post about accessing a pre-pre-release of iPhone OS 2.2.1 and finding Push Notification Service and Notes Sync? Turns out not so much. BGR says:

The site that houses the forum has posted an update to the blog post that brought attention to the push notification claim, and has stated the original posting was indeed a fake.

So we can all go back to our regularly complaining about PNS being late again, b’okay?

No, that’s not spring in the air, that’s the rumor frenzy ramp-up to Apple’s June World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC), and here’s the aptly titled MacRumors with a mother load:

A MacRumors reader ran across a very unusual .Mac web page yesterday and was kind enough to forward it on. The page contained promotional images for Apple products [...] including teasers for iTunes 8, a 32GB iPhone [in Australia!], and a WWDC launch date (June 10th).

Turns out, not so much. The images came courtesy of one of MacRumors own forum members (though MacRumors continues to maintain they were associated with a legit @apple.com account).

In general, a 32GB iPhone, at least for the current generation product, would require a 32GB NAND chip for the single slot (due to the cell radio and other components, unlike the iPod Touch which boasts 2 NAND slots, the iPhone only has room for 1 — hence iPod Touch always offering twice the memory). If true, it may explain the price cuts on the 8GB models. iTunes 8 would only require some boosted features (App Store support?) and Apple’s marketing desire to bump the rev a full number. Australia rumors have been building for a long time now, of course.

Also included were the first MacBook and MacBookPro case revs, going to aluminum and iMac-style black on aluminum respectively. (Both of which have also seen rampant rumor ramp ups — say that ten times fast!)

Will Flash come to the iPhone? Won’t it? Will it? Won’t it?

GearLive said yes. Adobe said maybe. El Jobso said too slow, too lite — where’s my middle?!. El Narayenso (er… Adobe’s CEO) said SD-OK! And… now Adobe clarifies that ambiguous yes with another maybe. Kinda:

“[T]o bring the full capabilities of Flash to the iPhone web-browsing experience we do need to work with Apple beyond and above what is available through the SDK and the current license around it. We think Flash availability on the iPhone benefits Apple and Adobe’s millions of joint customers, so we want to work with Apple to bring these capabilities to the device.”

Hooked on the iPhone’s first reality soap yet? Us neither, but we’ll keep on it until those wacky techs finally hook up for good or call it quits forever.
