iPhone activations see huge spike on Christmas day, significant increase in App Store downloads

Apple's iOS device activation numbers saw a huge spike of around 353 percent on Christmas Day. In addition, app sales jumped up a full 252 percent after millions of people opened their new iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPod touch and headed straight for the App Store.

Apple has sold over 187 million iOS devices

Thanks to Apple's patent and trademark lawsuit against Samsung, we now get fresh iOS sales figures, a whopping 187 million of them including 108 million for iPhone, 19 million for iPad, and 60 million for the usually not broken-out iPod touch. That's a compelling install base, a largely binary-compatible one, and the reason Apple's strategy lately has been more about platform than product.

2.5 million iPad 2 built in March, 4+ million more per month on the way?

Digitimes says manufacturers delivered 3.4-2.6 million iPad 2 units to Apple in March and are aiming to deliver over 4 million a month -- a total of 12 million in conservative estimates -- during the next quarter. To put that in context, Apple sold 15 million original iPads during the last 9 months of 2010.

We still haven't heard anything from Apple regarding iPad 2 sales numbers but their next quarterly conference call, scheduled for April 20, will no doubt give us a definitive answer.

We're still guessing they sell every single iPad 2 they can make. You?

Apple sells 3 million iPhone 4 in 3 weeks

Despite the ongoing iPhone 4 antenna issues, Apple just announced during their special press conference that they've sold 3 million iPhone 4 handsets in just 3 weeks. That's a huge number, especially in light of the recent publicity.

Speaking of which, while using comedy and humility to fess up to those same antenna issues, they also took the opportunity to show off the high ratings iPhone 4 has received -- including from Consumer Reports.
