New subscription policy doesn't apply to Software as a Service - Sent from Steve Jobs' iPhone

A MacRumors reader emailed Steve Jobs about recent fears that Apple's new App Store subscription policy would hurt Software as a Service (SaaS) apps, and Jobs' purported response is -- no it won't.

The question:

As a full time iOS developer, I am concerned (and confused) withe the new App Store guideline regarding "Apps offering subscriptions" (section 11.12).

Steve Jobs says MobileMe will "get a lot better" in 2011

It looks like MobileMe might be in for some improvements next year, given Steve Jobs' purported response to one frustrated customer.

I love my iPad and iPhone 4 and am a huge fan of yours and all that Apple does. I desperately want to stay inside of Apple'e ecosystem as much as possible. However, MobileMe is making it very difficult for me to do so. Unreliable/unpredictable syncing, creating duplicate entries (sometimes scores of them), etc. It's almost unusable. And I know from forums (including Apple's own support boards) that I am not the only one experiencing these very real and frustrating problems. Please tell me it will get better, and soon?

Steve Jobs: Apple to add AirPlay video to Safari, App Store apps in 2011

According to another purported email response from Steve Jobs, the AirPlay feature introduced in iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad should be updated in 2011:

The question:

Hi, I recently updated both my iPhone 4 and iPad to 4.2. I think my favourite feature is airplay. This is seriously amazing and makes sharing content seamless. I just purchased Apple TV and was wondering are you ever going to make airplay video work for videos in safari and 3rd party apps? I hope to get a response. :)

The Steve Jobs reply:

Yep, hope to add these features to Airplay in 2011.

Sent from my iPhone

While most of us wanted AirPlay to support anything that used the standard iOS video controller, the current implementation is severely limited, providing audio-only streaming options for the most part, with video available only from the built-in iPod app (and Video app on iPod touch and iPad), and YouTube app.

This limitation has been removed for developers via one line of code and for Jailbreakers via AirVideoEnabler, so it would be outstanding to see Apple fix it out of the box for everyone.

Unfortunately, 2011 is a ways away still, and kind of puts the kibosh on rumors of an iOS 4.3 update in December (unless that's really only to support subscription newspapers for iPad).

VIdeo of AirPlay in action after the break... If you've tried out -- or have been waiting to try out -- AirPlay streaming to Apple TV, let us know your thoughts!

Steve Jobs replies to questions regarding AirPrint

Earlier today we told you how network air printing was rumored to be removed from iOS 4.2. According to MacRumors one of their forum members decided to shoot Steve Jobs an email to find out what is going on with regards to this issue.

The email to Jobs:

As a release-day purchaser of an iPad, I was elated when you revealed iOS 4.2 would support AirPrint. Now comes reports AirPrint support has been pulled from 4.2. Between announcements/assurances of the white iPhone, and now the pulling of AirPrint, is Apple going to lose credibility and become known for announcing "vaporware"?

Steve Jobs speaks: iTunes Extras and iTunes LP coming to Apple TV

When upgrading to the new iOS powered Apple TV, you may have noticed that iTunes Extras and iTunes LP were missing. These features were included with the old Apple TV, so imagine the disappointment when veteran Apple TV users were stripped of them. Conor Winders of Redwind Software was one such user and emailed Steve Jobs himself regarding it.

Steve Jobs: iPad 4.2 mute switch not changing, not user-definable

Ever since the iOS 4.2 beta for iPad came out, some people have been a little upset about the hardware orientation lock being changed into an iPhone-like mute switch. There's been talk (hope) of getting a settings option that would allow for the user to choose between orientation lock and mute, but now that's been dashed by an email response purportedly from Apple's top dog himself, Steve Jobs:

The question:

In IOS 4.2 for iPad is the switch on the side going to be the mute and not screen orientation lock from now on?

Jobs' answer:

Yep. Sent from my iPhone

Jobs: Performance fix for iOS 4 on iPhone 3G coming soon

Steve Jobs has purportedly told a beleaguered iPhone 3G user that an iOS 4 performance boost is coming soon via software update. Here's the complaint:

I've waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I've read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I'm not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.

And the reply from Steve Jobs:

Software update coming soon.

Steve Jobs: iPhone 4 over the air HD video upload coming "in the future"
