Skype video calling coming to iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4

Skype is saying they have some video-related announcements heading our way for CES 2011 in a just over a week and you know what that means -- iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4 video calling, right?

Skype is participating in an event titled "Video Calling Gets Ready for Primetime" and they have also recently put up a question and answer from one of their users. The user asked how they could make a video call from their iPhone using Skype. Well Skype went ahead and decided to answer that question:

Skype not working for you? You're not alone

Skype, the most popular VoIP (Voice over IP) service on the planet, has been down for many users for almost a day now. Users either can't log into Skype or if they can, when they try to place a Skype call they're told they're offline. It's the same if you're on the desktop or using the iPhone app. You just can't connect.

Skype updated to support iOS 4 background VoIP multitasking

Skype for iPhone has just hit version 2.1 and brings with it the ability to run iOS 4 background VoIP multitasking. Yes, you finally have the ability to leave Skype running and answer calls as an almost equal citizen to the built in, old-school Phone app.

Hurrah.

If you try it out, let us know how it works for you.

After Apple's announcement of FaceTime during the WWDC 2010 keynote, we knew it was only a matter of time before talk of Skype video chat would arise. Just two days later, an insider at Skype has told Pocket-Lint that they "would welcome the opportunity to work with Apple" when it comes to bringing Skype video calling to the new iPhone 4 scheduled to release on June 24.

Skype 2.0 for iPhone brings VoIP over 3G!

Chad just Skyped me over 3G to tell me Skype has finally (finally!) released Skype 2.0 for iPhone with support for VoIP calling over 3G cell phone networks.

We'll spare you the long drawn out AT&T, Apple, Skype drama and the out-loud wondering about why it took so long. We'll also skip the reminder about how, with iPhone OS 4, you'll be able to leave it running in the background. We figure you've already tapped through and are busily installing the app.

iPad Camera Kit packs USB keyboard, headset support surprise?

The iPad Camera Kit has started showing up in the wild and while its name indicates it's intended use as a way to import digital camera pictures and video into the iPad, it looks like there's some surprise support for USB keyboards and audio headsets along for the ride.

For those unfamiliar with the Camera Kit, it's two small dongles, one of which is an SD/SDHC card reader and the other is a straight-up USB port. It's the latter of the two that's creating the stir.
