Verizon killing off unlimited plans with new LTE device purchases

Verizon's CFO Fran Shammo mentioned at the J.P. Morgan Technology, Media, and Telecom conference recently that anyone migrating from 3G to 4G devices won't be able to grandfather in their old unlimited plan and will have to instead take a data share plan scheduled to launch this summer.

Verizon releases Q4 results, revenues up 7.7%, subscribers up 1.5 million

Verizon has released their Q4 2011 financial results and they seem to have done fairly well for themselves -- 18.3 billion in gross profits, up 7.7%. Wireless revenue was up 13% with data revenue up 19.2%. (That's why carriers want iPhones on their network.)

Verizon sold 4.2 million iPhones last quarter

Bloomberg reports that Verizon Wireless sold 4.2 million iPhone units during the last quarter.

The demand suggests Verizon Wireless is winning an increasing share of new iPhone users, after gaining rights to offer the handset to its subscribers last year. In the third quarter, Verizon added 2 million customers for the device, trailing the 2.7 million iPhone activations at AT&T Inc. (T), which has offered the handset since 2007.

Verizon cancels $2 billing surcharge

Amid a swirl of negative user reaction and FCC attention, Verizon has reconsidered their recent $2 payment surcharge.

“At Verizon, we take great care to listen to our customers. Based on their input, we believe the best path forward is to encourage customers to take advantage of the best and most efficient options, eliminating the need to institute the fee at this time,” said Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless.

They'll no doubt try to get the money from somewhere else, but for now at least you can extinguish the torches and call off the hounds.

Verizon data network down. Again. Again.

Once again, Verizon seems to be having data network issues. We haven't gotten that many reports from iPhone users this time, but our sibling site Android Central is certainly hearing all about not hearing it now.

Verizon to stop jailbreak tethering on its network from today?

According to a report by Forbes, from today Verizon will be rolling out a system to prevent jailbreak tethering apps like MyWi from working on its network. When using one of these apps as of today, you will be redirected from the webpage that you wanted to visit to a specially prepared Verizon webpage where you will be asked to upgrade to an official tethering plan.
