The fine folks at iFixit have already torn down the new Verizon iPhone and while there's a lot that hasn't changed and some changes we knew about, the biggest shocker so far is that Apple used the Qualcomm MDM6600 chipset which supports both Verizon's CDMA/EVDO and AT&T's GSM/HSPA+ -- but the GSM part isn't enabled:
This is the same chipset as the Droid Pro world phone. It supports both GSM and CDMA—which means that Apple could have supported GSM!

The Verizon iPhone is almost upon us and it looks like many of you are making the big switch! Whether you're leaving the AT&T iPhone or moving from BlackBerry or Droid, you'll have to move your data over and maybe look for ways to keep some of the functionality you're used to. That's the topic for this episode of TiPb TV!
Sure the iPhone is popular and famous for being easy to use but It can be stressful to leave a network or device you're used to and comfortable with and pick up something new. Could this be the very first Verizon iPhone to be held by customer hands? YouTube user billa9668 claims to have picked it up today from the UPS center in Evansville Indiana. Is it for real? It's an iPhone 4 box in a UPS box with what looks like a Verizon pamphlet as wrapping. Beyond that who knows?
Verizon started shipping pre-orders earlier in the week and now so has Apple, with delivery estimates of Monday and Tuesday. We're still tracking shipments in our Verizon iPhone forum so we'll see if more arrive. Meanwhile check out the video after the break and tell us -- do you believe?
It looks like Verizon iPhone pre-orders made via Apple.com are finally starting to ship, playing a little catch-up with Verizon iPhone orders made via Verizon.com that started shipping last week. The one above is coming straight from the factory in Shenzhen, China. Based on reports in our Verizon iPhone Forum, Tuesday morning is the expected timeframe for delivery.
The new Verizon iPhone commercial tore into AT&T's network but AT&T loaded their own cannons with some simultaneous voice and data and just shot back with a commercial of their own.
Called Answer the commercial highlights a man who gets a call from his wife double-checking on their anniversary plans -- which he of course forgot to make. He promptly puts the call into the background and jumps onto the internet, something that couldn't be done on Verizon (unless the man's office had, you know, Wi-Fi...)
Video after the break, let us know how compelling the counter commercial is in comments!
