A huge Great White Shark was spotted in the wild by a boat owner and luckily for us, he was an iPhone 4S user. We already knew that the iPhone 4S was capable of capturing some fantastic 1080p video content but when you see the result with this magnificent 18 foot long shark in it, it really brings it home. [NSFW-L]

This great white circled our 21ft boat for 20 minutes and made contact with the boat (slapped its tail on the boat). We were about 25 miles southeast of Wrightsville Beach.

There are not many moments when you come face to face with such a stunning sight in the wild. No matter how bad your hat may be, Harry, there is no better phone to have in your pocket than the iPhone 4S!

The iPod nano and iPod touch lines have now been refreshed. The iPod nano will now have built in sensors to make the fitness experience even better. You won’t need any additional adapters or software. Icons are also a bit bigger to make navigation easier. It’ll come in seven different colors and you can choose between an 8GB capacity ($129) and a 16GB capacity ($149). It will even have 12 new watch faces — including Mickey Mouse — for those who want to strap it to their wrists!

The iPod touch line will also see the addition of a white model. The models will remain the same capacity wise – 8, 32, and 64GB with the following price points –

• 8GB iPod Touch – $199
• 32 GB iPod Touch – $299
• 64 GB iPod Touch – $399

It doesn’t appear there are any internal changes to the iPod Touch. The main change Apple seems to be highlighting is iOS 5, which will be a free update on October 12. Since there’s no AirPlay Mirroring and no Siri, that probably means there’s not even an Apple A5 chip in there!

So for iPod touch, Apple slightly lowered the price on the baseline model by $30 instead of bumping features to maintain price point and parity with iPhone 4S. Why?

According to 9to5Mac‘s source, two new iPhone and three new iPod touch SKUs are now appearing in Apple’s inventory system. The new iPod touch models most likely represent the rumored white iPod Touch in 8, 32, and 64GB flavors just like its current black counterpart. The current iPod touch has the internal codename N81. These new SKUs are labeled as part number N81A which probably indicates an incremental update, or more likely, white iPod touch models.

The new iPhone SKUs appearing are labeled under the N90A codename. The current iPhone 4 is known internally as the N90 so this would most likely point to a minimally updated device. It may even indicate an 8GB version which is what Apple did when they knocked down the price of the iPhone 3GS last year. The N94 codename has appeared in the iOS SDK quite a few times and is probably the major iPhone upgrade we should hear about during the October 4th event Apple has scheduled. According to rumors, the iPhone 5 should bring with it some significant internal hardware changes so we doubt the N90A is the device we’ll see on Tuesday.

Earlier this summer 9to5Mac and iFixYouri found some white iPod touch 5 front panels floating around, and now teardown site iFixDirect has gotten their hands on something similar. Given we saw the iPad 2 get a white version this year, it only makes sense that the iPod touch would follow suit sooner or later.

I’m typically a little skeptical with part leaks but the connectors and circuitry appear to be a bit different than the current 4th generation iPod touch, which makes this a bit more believable. Other than adding a white iPod touch to the current line up, it doesn’t seem like the form factor will deviate much from the current lineup. We’ll probably see more changes internally than anything which are the types of changes I prefer seeing anyways. Have you told us [what you want to see in iPod touch 5] yet?

Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, Philip Schiller has confirmed via his twitter account, that the white iPhone is still coming and will be available in spring 2011.

The white iPhone will be available this spring (and it is a beauty!).

This could be a cryptic message and it may not even refer to the white iPhone 4 as there is no mention of a specific model in his tweet. Schiller may even be referring to a white iPhone 5 which could appear before the end of spring. If we take June 21st as the start of summer and mix that with the likelihood that iPhone 5 will be announced at WWDC at the beginning of June. It may be possible to have it released before June 21st. This could then still be classed as spring. Of course this is pure speculation on our part but it would make much more sense than just releasing a white iPhone 4 at this late stage.

Getting tired of white iPhone 4 rumors yet? How about white iPhone 4 rumors from analysts? No? Well then AppleInsider is reporting on comments from a securities analyst who claims Apple will begin ramping up production of the white iPhone 4 for a possible release in early April.

Apple is expected to begin production of its long-awaited iPhone 4 sometime this month, with shipments no later than early April, according to one analyst’s checks.

Since analysts are historically about as accurate as a coin toss, take this with a huge grain of salt and expect the white iPhone only when you see it go up for sale on Apple.com or at Apple retail. Or just toss a coin of your own and tell us when you think we’ll see the white iPhone!

UK operators Three and Orange are now listing the white iPhone 4 on their websites. AT&T’s online system is also now showing the white iPhone 4 in their OLAM (Online Account Management) system. This news comes hot on the heels of Best Buy and Vodafone Germany showing the white iPhone 4’s in their internal systems.

The evidence is stacking up, Apple are definitely going to release the iPhone 4 in white soon, despite it now being over seven months since the original launch. This should come as no surprise; there will still be a big demand for the white iPhone 4. Not everyone wants to wait five months for the iPhone 5. There are also many potential customers that are totally unaware of Apple’s product refresh cycles or just simply want a new phone now.

Fei Lam, the 17 year old who made a decent amount of change selling white iPhone 4 conversation kits has shut down his website.

According to an email Cult of Mac received from Lam, he stated “We have closed the site, possibly permanently”. While it’s highly probable that Apple had a hand in closing down whiteiphone4now.com, the teen did not give any hint to what caused his websites demise but it may have something to do with a shady parts supplier he was accused of using to get a hold of the white iPhone 4 parts.

If you were thinking about purchasing the parts from Lam’s site never fear, there are other sites out there that sell the parts or you can simply wait until Spring of 2011 for the official device direct from Apple.

It appears some new promo material going up in Apple stores has a subtle footnote stating the white iPhone 4 will be available Spring 2011. Not huge news, as Apple stated spring availability for iPhone 4 a while back, but seeing it in black and white makes it a bit more believable, considering the numbers of delays to date.

Given iPhone 5 will be right around the corner by that point, I don’t see many people jumping for joy. I’m hoping they’ll take a different approach with iPhone 5 and only offer a white back, not front. It seems that’s what was causing all the problems to begin with. I personally didn’t much care for the white front to begin with.

Any readers out there excited over this, or are you planning to just wait it out and see what iPhone 5 will offer?

The Street is claiming that the reason Apple has delayed the white iPhone 4 until “later this year” is due to light leaking around the edges of the glass. This according to the ever popular “person familiar with”, in this case the manufacturing process.

As the source described it, if it were a metal or plastic material, a simple coating would fill in the gaps and block the internal light. Glass is an entirely different issue.

Take this with a white iPhone 4-sized grain of salt, of course.

If the above screenshot really is an internal document via AT&T, there’s some doubt as to whether or not AT&T is going to have any white iPhones on stock for launch day (or in the coming days after). This document seems to have leaked over at modmyi.com.  TiPb aren’t too sure whether or not this is a hoax (maybe just to scare Leanna). We’d assume at least the Apple stores will carry the white models.  Seeing as this is an AT&T internal document, we don’t see this holding any bearing on what Apple will have at launch.

Maybe Apple is keeping the white iPhones as of now in order to keep their stores in stock until more shipments are pushed out?  Even if that were the case, I’d still find that a bit odd.  Pre-ordering starts tomorrow so we should find out either way.  We’re going to see what we can find out on AT&T’s end. BGR has stated AT&T declines to comment and are now reporting the same thing may be happening in Germany as well (and we saw Softbank in Japan announce black-only earlier today).  They seem to think this may very well be the case.  Until we find out more, I’d take this one with a grain of salt, and definitely wouldn’t extend this to what will happen in the Apple stores on June 24th.  What do you guys think?

Yes we have more white next-generation iPhone casing images that have leaked out and this time they come to us from Powerbook Medic. The site claims they received the casing from one of their parts suppliers.

We first saw evidence of a all white iPhone when images of the faceplate surfaced and then shortly there after the those were followed up by images of what appeared to be a fully assembled all-white iPhone. While a video of a all white iPhone in action would be nice, we suppose we can exercise some patience and wait until June 7th when Steve shows us both – black and white devices…

Okay, enough with the unboxings. Fair point. But we iPhone people only get one device a year, so this is our Super Bowl and dagnabit we plan to enjoy it!

So there have been some reports that the white iPhone 3G has been showing cracks in its plastic housing already. From the pictures shown, some look like it could be scratches while others look almost, definitively cracked. I knew that the plastic would not be as durable as the original iPhone’s but cracks in the casing? That’s a lot worse than I ever imagined.

Is this a case of internet propaganda or could this really be happening? Anyone with white iPhone 3Gs like to tell their side of the story?

Here we are – A gallery of the iPhone 3G in White and some comparisons to the original iPhone 2G. Short version: The iPhone 3G is a bit thicker, a smidge taller, and (most surprisingly) noticeably wider, it feels just as good in the hand because of the curved back. That wider part also means there’s a slight border on the left and right of the screen — but all in all the iPhone 3G is essentially the same slab as the original iPhone.

The plastic backing feels very solid — it’s very hard plastic and though it’s not likely to be as scratch-resistant as the original metal, it’s a damn sight tougher than most smartphone plastic we’ve seen. It is a fingerprint magnet back to front, even in white (though the white hides it better).

The headphone jack is flush (yay) and looks to be well-constructed. Unlike many a smarthphone we’ve used before, there’s no jiggle whatsoever when you plug a headset in. Ok, we’ll say it, the headset jack on Treos would often get busted because the soldier points would fail — that doesn’t look to be a concern here. Also great: Speaker quality and call quality are FAR SUPERIOR to the original iPhone.

Another day, another iPhone 3G sighting. This time is comes courtesy of iphoneclub.nl [currently down, via engadget mobile] and the image seems to confirm our previously posted image of the iPhone 3G inside a case – which is to say it’s a little bit bigger, a little bit whiter, but otherwise looks like an iPhone sans the metal casing on the back.

Does anybody think that this is coming later than the expected June launch date anymore?
