CTIA isn't the only event happening today, up in Redmond at Microsoft HQ we're being treated to a first look at what's next for the Xbox. Besides the gaming, the Xbox has steadily been increasing its attack on the living room, and Xbox Live has gone cross-platform with the release of Wordament on iOS. Then of course there's Xbox Smartglass, so already Microsoft has our attention before announcing anything new.

Microsoft's companion app for the Xbox 360 is now live for iOS, allowing users to remotely control the gaming console, view related content, type out messages, and otherwise complement everything you'd normally just do with the hardware controller.

Microsoft's SmartGlass to turn your iPhone and iPad into secondary Xbox screens

Today at E3, Microsoft announced SmartGlass, a new app that will let any mobile device, including iPhones and iPads, provide secondary contextual content to what you're playing on your Xbox. Daniel Rubino and company from our sibling site WPCentral were on hand at the press conference, and brought back word of Microsoft demoing the system. It worked while watching Game of Thrones with world map information, as well as with Halo 4, where you could check match statistics and join multiplayer games from your tablet. Xbox will also be getting Internet Explorer (IE 10), which you'll be able to control from your mobile device.

MVC (via MacRumors) is claiming that Microsoft's head of Xbox Business Insights and Strategy, Richard Teversham, is leaving to join Apple.

With the unbelievable success of iPhone and iPod touch gaming, could Apple finally be taking the space seriously? Or could this be part of some bigger move, one involving those chipset buyouts, licenses, and hires we recapped earlier? Could Apple be working on...
