Poll: Are you using your iPad 2 cameras?
Are you using the cameras on your iPad 2? Apple really didn't go out of their way to provide great cameras, basically porting over what they had in the iPod touch 4 instead of the much better camera in the iPhone 4. But they say the best camera is the one you have with you and from time to time, that will be the iPad 2, right? No, really? Perhaps you have seen our TiPb TV tourist episode and gained some inspiration?
If you've made regular use of your iPad 2 cameras for still pictures, shooting video, FaceTime calls, Augmented Reality apps, or anything else, let us know!

I only use it to show off that fact it is iPad2. Other that that i use it probably once a month for a new profile pic on Facebook
I only use it to highlight how crappy it is compared to the iPhone 4 camera.
If it had better cameras, i'd use them.
Uhm... what's the use of the option "Don't have iPad 2" in this poll? The question revolves around the use of an iPad 2 and the current 33% decreases the apparent impact of the other answers.
I agree. A number of polls on this website include similar options. I suppose it is fine to keep them in if the goal is to be inclusive and allow everyone - even those with no information relevant to the poll - to participate. But in that case, that data should be excluded from the results, so that the results actually correspond to the polling question. As it is, the percentages in the results of this poll do not mean much unless adjusted to exclude the "no iPad 2" option.
To the authors - is there any reason that we're missing for including (and then displaying in the results) these I-shouldn't-be-taking-the-poll options?
This is a loaded poll. It asks if we use the camera, but doesnt take into account that the camera provided is unusably horrible.
For mothers day I made an iMovie on my iPad. EVERYTHING about the process (carrying the iPad, recording the kids, getting artistic angles, editing) was awesome EXCEPT THE END RESULT. And that is entirely because of the low quality camera.
Also, as much as I enjoy Skype/Facetime then I use it much less than I would've because of the lighting requirements to make things not look grainy or too dark.
So overall, this is the first Apple product I've owned where I was embarassed to say "I made this on an Apple".
Same here, but I would rather make movies on ipad2 rather than iPhone as it is easier. You may what to try an app called Transfer........I use iPhone 4 for filming, transfer videos and stills to ipad2 and make the movie from there.
Would be a hell of a lot easier if the camera on ipad2 didn't suck so much!
Tried using the back camera in class for snapping pictures of important notes on the blackboard, but the resolution isn't good enough to make those notes readable.
I use it as a casual camera for stills, its good for stuff like instagram where you'll then apply a filter, the video camera is nice and I've used it occasionally.
It is fun though to have a 10 inch screen as a camera shame the resolution is actually less than the screen !
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I do use it quite often for Skype calls. Aiming the camera can be tricky sometimes, but a big portable screen makes Skyping much easier and fun.
I recently moved into a new apartment and gave my parents a tour using Skype on my iPad 2.
Played around with the photobooth app and have done one or two FaceTime calls, but overall the cameras were the least reason for me to get the iPad 2. Even if they were super duper HD worthy, I doubt I'd use them much. The camera on the iPhone 4, that I use all the time because 1) it's a good phone camera and 2) the device itself is with me all the time and is easy to pull out and use. Even with a 12 mp camera, the iPad 2 still wouldn't fit into that latter category. I can't even say I dislike the cameras on it. They're just a non factor to me compared to the rest of the package.
Cameras on the iPad 2 are CRAP! wish it didn't have that feature on mine and saved the few bucks.
I'd forgotten mine had cameras on it!
So no, I don't use them.
At family reunions and friends' parties, everybody enjoys playing around with photobooth...we tend to take lots of pics and then I put them up on FB for everybody to make fun of...it's the best use I've found for any cam, except for facetime...I love facetime :)
Oh, and I'm 40, most of my cousins (all 30+ of us) are older than me, and so are my friends, so...it's not kids who enjoy photoboot...on the other hand, I don't know how long will the enchantment last...it's been just three times I've brought my ipad2 with me.
Anyone figured out if you can mod an iPhone 4 or 3GS camera into it?
As bad as the cameras are I don't see using them for snapshots. I can see using them to take a picture of a business card or a receipt or something else you want to throw out, but that's about it.
Diggin that shirt. Can I get one in the TIPB store?
I upgraded to iPad 2 only for the extra thinness & lightness & the smart covers are just a bonus extra, however I didn't buy it for the cameras as 1) already read a lot of views stating how poor they are & 2) seriously who is going to hold a device that big up in the air to take pictures unless it's the only camera u have on u at the time. I never use FaceTime and I have taken pictures using iPad 2 and the reviews r true, really horrible pics. Lucky it wasnt the cameras that wasthe reason for buying iPad 2 ;-)
First off this thing is huge to be out in public taking photos, so I don't use it for that. However, I do use it for FaceTime and Skype calls. I also use Evernote and other apps for scanning documents as well as Book Crawler. I use BC to scan books into my book database to keep track of my library. The cameras are good for stuff like that, but not photos IMO.
I would use them more if the quality was better, instead I grab my phone take a pic and then transfer it to my iPad. Same with video in low light.
Cisco webex multi-part video would be awesome... but our company is going with Microsoft Lync... the crap that doesn't have iDevice apps or support the Mac properly.
The camera on the iPad 2 blows. I have a better camera on my iPhone 3GS.
haven't used either, even once. lol. (always have my iphone 4 with me. and yes, i also have an original ipad, which i plan to give away.)
Was truly SHOCKED the iPad 2 didn't have cameras at least as good as those on my previously released iPhone 4.
However, the discrepancy made it REALLY easy for me to hold out for iPad 3 and its (hopefully) higher resolution screen.
I thought I'd use them more, but they are so crappy. I want to scan and sign documents. The iPhone camera is 100x better.
The Camera in ipad 2, however is not up to the expected level for pictures, but ok for VDO..
I like only the vdo shooting and nevr the pics from IPAD 2
shoot in 720HD video , then screen shot the pic! looks great! capture more of the moment!
I have to say that for the past couple of hours i have been hooked by the impressive posts on this blog. Keep up the great work.
