New to TiPb: Disqus comments, Google search, and +1

TiPb nation, we're in the process of rolling out some updates to the site that we're really excited about, including Disqus comments, Google search, and +1 buttons.

  • Disqus is commenting system that offers a lot more options than our previous, built in version. You can login with a Disqus account if you have one, but also with Facebook, Twitter, and other logins you may already have later. It also gives us better moderation controls so hopefully it will cut down on the spam... and the trolls!

  • Google search is just much better than what we had before. The old search was chronological so you got the last post about a certain term, not the best, most relevant one. It will also let you search across the blog, forum, and store (or choose to filter based on just one of those if you prefer.) Now all the Google power is yours on TiPb.

  • +1 is a way to show your love for a particular post, to tell people it's cool and help your friends and contacts find it, if it's of interest to them. It joins our existing Facebook Like, Tweet, LinkedIn, and Buzz buttons, because choice matters, dagnabit!

And there's more to come. Lots more. So here's where I turn it all around and make it about you -- what else do you want from TiPB? What cool features would you love to have?

Wonderful. Just wonderful. I love Disqus. Commenting organization at it's best! ^__^

Michael Beck says:

Glad to see you're using Disqus now. I use it on all of my blogs, as well and makes it easier for more people to jump in the conversation. Hard to find a person who doesn't have a Twitter, Facebook or both!

(Copy of) Dev says:

One (well, two) questions/nitpicks about Disqus at tipb
1) Will there be any attempt to migrate the old comments? I come to tipb for the comments as much (probably more) than anything else, and it would be a shame to lose that history.
2) Is there any way to get the comment count back in the mobile theme? I hit tipb from my iphone most of the time, and seeing the badge next to each discussion gave a quick overview of what stories have generated more discussion since the last visit. If you have to click through to each story each time to see if there have been more comments, that will get old quickly.

Rob says:

If the old comment system can be supported by Disqus import then there should be no reason for the old comments to be lost - will just take time for them to be imported.

Tweger010 says:

It bugs me not having the comment count as well.

Quinn Jones says:

Awesome job on the updates. Team TiPb keeps making this site better and better. Now we just need an official TiPb iPhone app and life will be all good

Omari James says:

great news ... was sort of shocked at first , thought i had to get a discus account first , +1 !

jonathan says:

lol, I just added disqus to my site too :)

CycloneFW says:

Is there a way to more streamline the comments? Maybe a mode option I'm missing. The reply buttons are just huge so I'm scrolling way more. I'll still enjoy it, so I'll live with it if I have to.

Bon Johnam says:

Now I will actually comment!

Joseph egbule says:

aww man not these stupid disqus coments, now i can't post as ilovegeorgia anymore, and it doesn't let me sign in from my twitter on my iphone, well atleast on engadget it doesn't.

johncblandii says:

Man!!! Finally some good commenting here. Great stuff.

Analog Spirit says:

I find that Disqus doesn't quite work as smoothly on my iPhone, but on my Mac it's fine. On my iPhone, it doesn't save my info (name & e-mail address) so I have to retype it all the next time I post something. It's kinda frustrating (tho not a huge deal)... Is there any way to fix this? Or am I just doing something wrong?
Tho I must say, overall I like the Disqus format better, and anything that enables better moderation and cuts down on the spam & trolls is a worthy cause.

Analog Spirit says:

Oh, and another thing: What's the difference between posting as a guest and posting as Disqus?

EagleyeSmith says:

I was so happy to see this. Tipb finally got Disqus!! Whoooo!!

Gregz0r says:

More sites need to use Disqus.

computermilk says:

lol.. My disqus account was Banned from Engadget because their moderators are Nazi Germany fascist android fanboy's. The funny thing is I own a galaxy S 2, they just don't like to hear the truth. DIsqus FTW, but being banned by a Nazi Germany Android fanboy fascist FTL.

Ass says:

NO NOT DISQUS! IT'S DISQUSTING!

AlienSix says:

Disqus is amazing, away with you

AlienSix says:

Thanks for the disqus support :D

EagleyeSmith says:

More stories! I want to make more comments!

Mark Hernandez says:

Yes, Disqus is great. TUAW's recent change of commenting systems, in my opinion, is a disaster. Every option (using their AOL-based system) wanted permission to mine my personal information, like my tweets, and even post on my facebook wall. Absolutely not.

Greg Smith says:

Awesome, about time. Hopefully Crackberry and Android Central follow suit

Michael Denney says:

So did old comments from the built-in system go poof?

Eyelash Elsver says:

Disqus is commenting arrangement that offers a lot added options than our previous, congenital in version. You can login with a Disqus annual if you accept one, but aswell with Twitter, and added logins you may already accept later.

Metaksan says:

Now it is cool to us it :)

Gaurav Cbm says:

Thanks for the quick response. Yet, another reason to upgrade a couple sites to 2.0.

Maxxi says:

Great way to prevent spam. Thanks!

Congrats on the updates, Disqus is a smart choice

great little share, always a great sign when looking at the conversation thread spreading like this.....

MF says:

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and adore learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more details? It truly is extremely helpful for me.
