Having been much rumored in previous weeks, today VEVO has finally launched a channel for the Apple TV. No software update is required, as the next time you fire up your Apple TV in one of the supported countries, you'll see the new icon has been automatically pushed out. VEVO brings with it a library of over 75,000 music videos, and a bunch of original programming content. From VEVO:
Created in partnership with our friends at Apple, VEVO on Apple TV brings VEVO’s library of 75,000 HD music videos, exclusive original programming and live concert performances to Apple TV viewers. Featuring all the newest hits from Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus to videos from years past, VEVO spans the entire spectrum of musical tastes. You can also find all of your favorite VEVO original programming – from Lyric Lines and The Comment Show to our music-meets-fashion series Stylized and behind the scenes Tour Exposed – for a TV experience to enjoy right in your living room.
Initially, VEVO is available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Brazil, France, Ireland, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands and Poland. The channel itself is instantly recognizable as an Apple TV channel, with that same black backed interface we've come to know.
Music videos are available on-demand, or you can go in and find something specific that takes your fancy. VEVO will try to ensure continuous music playing by offering continual suggestions and "playing videos that personalize your viewing experience."
So, fire up your Apple TV and take it for a test drive. The addition of this amount of music videos to the Apple TV is a pretty big deal, and it could well be a hit. Let me know what you think of it though; something you'll be putting to work?
