Disney Animated reveals all the magic of the movie kingdom right on your iPad

Disney Animated for iPad is epic in every sense of the word. Whether you're a fan of their cinematic accomplishments or an aspiring animator yourself, packed into this nearly 1.8GB download is a virtual treasure-trove of Disney's greatness. It will very literally show you how Disney's animated movies come to life, both in the old (and sorely missed!) days of hand-painted cells, to the most modern of computer modeling.

Dozens of top animators, artists, technicians, and designers contributed to making Disney Animated an unprecedented hands-on experience. Disney Animated gives you access to an astonishing amount of material from all eras of Walt Disney Animation Studios, beginning with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and continuing through an exclusive first look at concept art, animation tests, and visual effects from the upcoming film Frozen.

You can watch the video trailer on Disney's site.

Disney Animated is chocked full of digital learning experiences. You can not only read but interact. You can explore concept art and animated scenes. You can try your own hand at 3D animation using a model of Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph and Control Elsa’s magical snow from the soon-to-be-released film Frozen. And you can swipe through a timeline or explore a color map of the entire history of Disney Animation.

One of my favorite books as a child was a giant tome that illustrated how Disney made their movies, from Mickey Mouse to what was then cutting-edge hand drawn animation. I adored it. This is that for the digital generation, and I think it'll be adored every bit as much.

If you have any love in your heart for the magic of Disney Animated movies, you owe it to yourself to get this app and now. It's worth every penny.

Note: You need a ton of space free on your iPad to download Disney Animated. The app itself is almost 2GB, which means you need significantly more to stage it during the download process, likely 5GB+. If you're cramped for space, try side-loading via iTunes, old-school style.
