Whether you want help with your productivity, documents, collaboration, or even your learning itself, there are a ton of apps that can help you get the most out of your studies, all at your fingertips on iPhone and iPad. 

Thanks to the magic of Apple's App Store, you can download these apps whether you have Apple's best iPhone or iPad, or something cheap and cheerful. Here are our top picks as we head towards the end of summer. 

Pages, Keynote, and Numbers

If you're in college classes, the chances are high that you're going to need a word processor, presentation creator, or spreadsheet application. And if you're working with your best iPhone or iPad (or even a Mac), then there is nothing better and more crucial than Apple's own suite of office software.

Pages is Apple's word processor that does all of the same things that you can find in Microsoft Word, but in a sleeker interface that is easy to use. Keynote is like PowerPoint, but much more streamlined and fun to use. And Numbers is just like Excel, so you can create spreadsheets to your heart's content. And all three of these programs can save files that are compatible with Microsoft Office as well, if you need to submit files online as a .doc file or similar, for example.

Google Docs

Google offers an entire suite of apps, many of which you'll probably end up downloading on your iPad and all of your other devices. Google products are ecosystem-agnostic, meaning you can use them across Apple and non-Apple devices easily and smoothly. Google Docs is the first one you'll want to download, since you can use it to write papers, take notes in class, whatever you need.

You'll probably be able to get through school without paying for upgraded storage, unless you store a lot of photos and videos within your Google account. In that case, you'll need to upgrade. While you can store up to 15GB for free, the paid tiers start at $2/month for 100GB and go up from there.

Microsoft Office 365

If you're used to Microsoft Office or your school uses Microsoft products exclusively, then you can grab Microsoft Office on your iPad This app contains Word, PowerPoint, and Excel in one app, but you can also grab them individually on the App Store as well.

With the Microsoft Office app, you get Word, PowerPoint, and Excel in one place. You can create, edit, and even collaborate with others in real-time, but a Microsoft 365 subscription may be required to access some premium features. Still, you can use the app to view and create documents without paying anything.

Evernote

When it comes to digital note-taking, it's hard to beat Evernote. Not only is it available on iPhone and iPad, but it's also available on Android, PC, and Mac, and the web — so you can access it anywhere.

Evernote lets you create notebooks for easy organization, and notes can consist of plain text, formatted text, web snippets from the clipper, photos, entire web pages, audio — you name it. And the best part is that everything that you put into Evernote becomes searchable, so you can search by keyword to find what you need. There is seamless syncing across all of your devices and while there are paid plans, you should have a good amount of space for free every month.

Microsoft OneNote

For those who are invested in the Microsoft ecosystem, then OneNote is an excellent alternative to Evernote. With OneNote, you can create an unlimited number of digital notebooks for every subject you're taking, and take notes in an organized fashion.

OneNote lets students type out notes, as well as handwrite them in, sketch diagrams, import photos, collaborate with others, and more. There is also a Sticky Notes feature that lets you save notes for easy reference later, and they are synced to all of your devices. You can download OneNote for free and use it with your Microsoft Account or even an account that is assigned to you by your school.

Dropbox

You're bound to end up with a lot of files and documents for school, so you'll want a good cloud storage service. One of our favorites is Dropbox because once you upload your files to Dropbox, you're able to access them on practically any device. Dropbox also has seamless integration with a lot of existing third-party apps as well, giving you a ton of flexibility when it comes to choosing what apps to use to get things done. You can also share files with others quite easily, making this a great tool for collaboration.

Dropbox has a free tier with 2GB of storage, which isn't a lot, but you can get more space with referrals. However, we recommend signing up for one of their tiered plans, which starts at 2TB for $10 a month. Considering the ubiquity and versatility, Dropbox is well worth paying for.

Quizlet

Either you're a flashcards person or you're not, but if you are, step away from those index cards. Save paper and time and create your flashcards on Quizlet. You can create your own custom flashcards or choose from over 500 million pre-made flashcards by students and teachers in many popular fields of study from grade school to grad school. You'll be able to share them easily with your classmates and study groups. 

The app is free to download, but you'll need a Quizlet Plus subscription for the more premium features. For $8/month or $36/year, you'll unlock features such as offline studying and be able to access many more flashcards.

Khan Academy

Enrich your learning in a myriad of subject with Khan Academy. Maybe you need a little help understand certain subject material, or you want to brush up on previously learned material before beginning an advanced class. Perhaps you want to get a taste of a subject before committing to whole semester class on it, or you just have deeper interests that take you beyond your college course's materials. Khan Academy is a free app with no in-app purchases, since a non-profit organization and. Downloading this app a no-brainer. Everyone should have this app on their iPad whether they are a college student or a student of life.

PCalc

Chances are high that you'll be taking a math class of some sort, especially if you're an undergrad. If that's the case, you may want to have a powerful calculator on your iPhone and iPad, and it's hard to beat PCalc.

With PCalc, you're getting a feature-rich calculator that is capable of basic calculations all the way up to more advanced equations. It has an optional RPN mode as well as a multi-line display, customizable button layouts, unit conversions, and constants, paper tape, multiple undo and redo, engineering and scientific notation, hexadecimal support, and binary calculations. The latest update to Evernote is finally going to let users fully work with tables right from their iPhone.

In a blog post, the company announced that you'll now be able to create, edit, and manage tables like you can on Mac, Windows, and the web app.

The company, to help users get started with the new feature, posted a video to its YouTube channel.

The company says that the feature has been long requested by its users as far back as the early days of Evernote on iOS.

Popular note taking and external brain app Evernote has been updated to support iOS 13. That means that those living in Dark Mode can now avoid having their retinas destroyed every time they try to take a note.

Evernote has gone through various redesigns over the years but it remains a popular way of storing information and handling notes. It helps that it can save almost anything and then sync it across multiple devices and platforms, too.

The updated app is now available for download from the App Store on both iPhone and iPad. You can of course use it on Apple Watch, too. But you'd probably really need to take a note to subject yourself to that.

With the new that Evernote is limiting free accounts and hiking prices, it's only natural that some people will be looking for alternatives. Apple's new Notes for iPhone or iPad and Notes for Mac might just make for that alternative. But how to migrate all of those notes? It's easier than you think if you have a Mac running OS X 10.11.4 or higher. Here's how.

How to move all Evernote data to Notes at once using a Mac

You can migrate everything you have saved in Evernote to Notes via your Mac. You'll need to be running OS X 10.11.4 or higher and have Evernote for Mac installed.

1. Open Evernote on your Mac.
2. Sign in to your Evernote account.

3. Click on Edit in the Menu bar at the top left of your Mac's screen.
4. Select Select All from the dropdown menu.

5. Select File in the Menu bar at the top left of your Mac's screen.
6. Click on Export Notes from the dropdown menu.

7. Name the file anything you want.
8. Select where to save the file. I saved it to my desktop so it can be easily found.
9. Click Save. It will export as a .enex file.

10. Open the Notes app on your Mac.
11. Click on File in the Menu bar at the top left of your Mac's screen.

12. Select Import Notes from the dropdown menu.
13. Select the .enex file you saved from Evernote.

14. Click on Import.
15. Click on Import Notes when the popup window appears.

Your Evernote files will be saved in iCloud with the folder title "Imported Notes."

How to export individual notes from Evernote to Notes on iPhone and iPad

Currently, there is no way to migrate all of your Evernote files into the Notes app on the iPhone or iPad. If you absolutely have no access to a Mac computer with Evernote and the Notes app, you can export full notes (not just links to notes) from the former to the latter, but it is a work around and takes a lot of repeating steps.

1. Open Evernote on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Select a Note.

3. Tap the More icon in the upper right corner. It looks like three dots.
4. Tap the Share icon.

5. Tap Export Note. This will open a Mail window inside Evernote with a .enex file attached.
6. Enter your own email address.
7. Tap Send in the upper right corner of the mail window.

8. Close Evernote.
9. Open the Mail app.
10. Select the email you just sent yourself from Evernote.
11. Long-press on the .enex file until the Apple extensions window appears.

12. Tap Add to Notes.
13. Tap Import Notes when the popup window appears.

14. Close the Mail app.
15. Open the Notes app.
16. Tap the new Imported Notes folder. It might be designated with a number if you already have one or more Imported Notes folders.

You have to repeat this process with each note you wish to import from Evernote. It's a lot of steps to repeat over and over, but it is currently the only way to export full notes from Evernote to the Notes app using an iPhone or iPad.

Evernote, the popular note-taking application for iOS, Mac and many other platforms, has been updated to support 1Password's popular iOS App Extension.

The feature, which was added alongside iOS 8 in 2014, gives developers the tools to create extensions that allow sandboxed apps — in short, all apps on iOS — to communicate with one another without endangering user privacy or platform security.

1Password's App Extension is one of the platform's most popular, supported by over 100 developers. Evernote has long been a popular way for people to take notes and archive important information. If you've never used it, here's an introduction to the Mac version of the software, and some tips on why you might be interested. By the way, Evernote is free to start with, so you can get try it out without paying a dime.

Evernote isn't just an application — it's a service. In order to use the app you need to create an Evernote account that serves as an active online repository of all the data you enter using the app. But this makes it a breeze to synchronize your content between devices, and Evernote is practically ubiquitous: In addition to the Mac, you can download it for iOS and for other platforms like Windows, Android, Windows Phone and more.

Evernote divides content into notes and notebooks; notebooks are collections of individual notes. I've set up separate notebooks for home, work, and projects that I'm working on.

The individual notes in each notebook can be free-form text, ordered and unordered lists (including checkbox lists, if you're picking up groceries, say, or supplies for a craft project) and more. You have extensive control over text formatting, and you can also include audio snippets, images, even snapshots using your Mac's built-in camera.

Evernote isn't just for typing and recording words. It works equally well if you have images you want to save (and notate). If Evernote isn't the active app, you can just drag an image into the Evernote icon on the Dock and it'll import the image too. This is great if you're collecting images for inspiration or later collation and collection and just want to grab stuff and go quickly. There's also an Evernote Web Clipper extension you can install for Safari and other browsers that will help you capture text and images from web sites.

Notes can be tagged so you can group and find them more easily later; you can also share them with other people using a connection to your own Contacts list; or post them publicly on social networks like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. You'll be notified if and when others make changes to the shared content, if you've enabled that functionality.

This only scratches the surface of Evernote's core functionality, and this is only the "free" version of Evernote. If you choose to pay for Evernote Premium — which costs $5 per month for individuals, $10 per month per user for businesses — you get other features, like the ability to have longer notes, annotated PDF file attachments, improved search functionality, and perhaps most importantly, offline work support.

And because Evernote has long been a popular app, there's a constellation of support for it — including devices that work with Evernote like scanners and pen styluses for the iPad — as well as third-party software that supports sharing with Evernote.

Evernote was updated this past November to take advantage of the new user experience Apple created for OS X Yosemite. The developers also used the new release to introduce other new features like easily resizable tables and images, redesigned interface elements and more.

Hopefully this has painted in broad strokes some of the features Evernote have and some of what Evernote can do for you. At the very least, you might want to give a try by downloading it yourself, since it won't cost you anything (except a few moments of time to set up an account).

Evernote has just released Scannable, a new app that turns your iPhone or iPad into a scanner. Like other scanning apps, Scannable can scan your physical documents to your device, and the app will even recognize different types of documents.

The app will produce the clearest scans possible. Your scanned documents are automatically cropped and enhanced for best results. Scannable can recognize documents like receipts and business cards. Details from business cards will be used to create new contacts, complete with LinkedIn data and a photo. These contacts can then be added to your device's contact list.

You're not limited to sharing with Evernote with Scannable. You can choose to send your documents to other services, as well as sending them with email, messages, or saving them as photos. Evernote has added a new Presentation Mode which allows users to display slideshows of your notes in a clean full-screen interface with easy navigation. The iPhone and iPad apps support AirPlay for Presentation Mode, too. Single slides can be identified with simple horizontal lines in your notes, or by using the new Create a Table of Contents option. On the downside, this feature is reserved for Premium subscribers, which costs $5/month or $45/year.

Evernote recently added business card reading to their premium app and a really nice pen and paper notebook to their existing lineup. With Presentation Mode in the mix, it's no wonder Evernote's managed to break 100 million users. Still, butting headings with established giants in the presentation arena like PowerPoint may be an uphill battle for anyone that isn't already entrenched with Evernote's other functions.

Evernote for iOS has been updated to version 7.3, making some changes to the user interface, as well as other improvements, all in an effort to make Evernote simpler and more responsive. You can customize the interface with some color and background options, as well as how the app displays your notes.

The biggest changes to experience are in Evernote's home screen. Quick Note, which generally favored text notes, from the bottom of the screen. Instead, Evernote has opted to place a row of buttons at the top of the screen, allowing you to quickly create notes of different types. Below this row are your sections. In addition to reordering, you can now show or hide details of each section, as well as add or remove them. Don't want to see the Market section? turn it off in the app's settings. Finally, you can now pick a theme for Evernote's home screen, either Classic green, Light, or Dark.

There are other improvements and fixes in Evernote 7.3. Business card scans can be saved to your contacts automatically. You can also set the quality of audio notes for either sound or file size. There are also syncing improvements, fixes to unseen card scans and corrupted audio notes, and several stability fixes.

EverClip for iPad is an app that allows you to clip various things from across the internet as well as many third party apps. Once you've clipped it, you can launch EverClip and automatically send it straight to your Evernote account right from your iPad. This can include links, any amount of text, images, and more. If you like to keep track of things in your Evernote account, EverClip can make getting the content there even easier.

The premise of EverClip is simple enough. You'll first be asked to link the app to your Evernote account and from there you're ready to start clipping. You can launch any app that allows you to copy text and images to your clipboard. This includes Safari, Mail, Photos, and pretty much any third party app. There are some apps that are a little painful but not many. For example, Facebook doesn't allow you to natively copy photos so you'll have to save them to your camera roll and copy them from there. It may be a little annoying, but it's workable. This isn't a limitation of EverClip, but of Facebook itself. You may come across this scenario with some third party apps but most allow you to copy content so it isn't an issue that'll present itself frequently.

Once you've copied an item you'd like to save in EverClip to your clipboard, just launch the app and you'll see it automatically appear. Tapping on it will show you its contents and the clip in its entirety. From here you can easily export it to your Evernote account by tapping on the share button in the upper right hand corner. You can also tap the edit button and a new menu will appear in the lower right hand corner that allows you to manually add media or text notes.

EverClip remains aware of what you're copying if you have it opened and running in the multitasking tray, when you copy an item you'll automatically hear a sound that indicates that it's been copied to EverClip. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. If you're copying text or media for another purpose that you may not want in EverClip, you'll have to delete it or remember to close EverClip when you're done. If you clip a lot of things you want, it may be a good thing. You'll just need to remember to close it out when you don't want it saving copied items.

The good

• Great interface that makes it easy to find content quickly
• Import to Evernote is fast and images format correctly when imported
• Copies items in the background when you have EverClip running in the multitasking tray

The bad

• You'll have to remember to close EverClip out from the multitasking tray when you aren't using it or everything will be copied, it's a good thing and a bad thing
• Apps like Facebook don't allow copy so you'll have to save to your camera roll and then copy to clip in EverClip

The bottom line

EverClip is a great buy for anyone who routinely needs to save content to Evernote. Instead of manually copying and pasting into new notes, EverClip can do the heavy lifting for you. The persistent background copying could be an issue for some users but it's somewhat of a double edged sword. You may end up copying things you don't mean to but for convenience, to take it away could hinder some users.

For what it is, EverClip works great and imports content accurately and efficiently. Users that depend on Evernote heavily for importing information will find it more than a worthwhile purchase.

Evernote, the popular cross-platform note-taking service, has issued a global password reset for all users following the discovery of suspicious activity described as a coordinated attempt to gain access to their system. In an email sent out to users by the company, Evernote said:

This is only the latest such disclosure from a major online service provider. If you're not already, make sure you get a password manager app (I use 1Password, others like Lastpass, but there are many options). Then, make sure you have unique, robust passwords for every service you use. It might seem like a pain in the ass, but having your accounts compromised can be a nightmare. So do it.

Taking notes on the iPad is a great way to save on the amount of physical paper you have floating around and a much easier way to stay organized. There's so many note taking apps in the App Store that choosing one can be a bigger task than anything. Syncing notes across all your devices and organizing them has never been easier when you use Evernote for iPad. If you prefer typing out your notes instead of using a handwritten notes app, Evernote is the best choice.

Whether you need to take freeform notes, create checklists, or upload pictures - Evernote's got you covered. The best part about Evernote is that they've got a client for pretty much any platform you'll be using. I frequently take notes on my iPad in meetings or during consults. When I get back to my office they're already synchronized and available on my iMac. From there I can share them via e-mail, Twitter, or Facebook or send them directly to my printer. If you've ever had to take minutes for a meeting it's never been easier to send notes out to all attendants before you even leave the meeting.

Upon starting a new note in Evernote you'll notice that you've got the option to add them to notebooks and add tags to notes. This makes searching and sorting less of a task and super simple. I've got several types of clients from consulting to web design. I simply tag the note appropriately in my work notebook and I can find their notes in just a few taps from anywhere inside Evernote.

I've also found Evernote to be a great place to store information such as serial numbers or photos when price shopping. Just take a quick photo inside a new note and tag it however you'd like. I love doing this when shopping for electronics or other items that I want to check prices for at multiple places. It allows me to easily compare prices without hand typing information that's already on the price tag.

While Evernote is free to use you are limited as to how much storage you can use in one month. A free account gives you 60MB a month worth of storage. It'll reset every month back to zero. If you plan on taking more text notes than anything a free account will suit you just fine and you'll most likely never come close to hitting that cap, unless you're a note taking maniac. If you plan on saving a lot of images or screen caps to Evernote, you can probably come close to that cap and may want to consider upgrading.

For $5.00/month or $45/year you'll get 1GB of storage upload space per month as well as many other premium features including the following -

• No ads
• Extensive note history that allows you to view past versions of your notes (good if you're collaborating with others)
• 50MB uploads per note
• Pin lock allowing you to lock your Evernote application to prevent unauthorized access
• PDF search

I personally have always used the free version of Evernote and I've never hit the cap. 60MB may not seem like a lot of space but if you're only snapping a few pictures here and there and most of what you'll be doing involves taking text notes, a free account will serve you great. While the free version is ad-supported, you'll only really see ads on the PC or Mac version of the client and they're tucked away in a corner and extremely unobtrusive.

The good

• Great user interface across all platforms that's familiar when you jump from one device to another
• A free account will be sufficient for many users
• Fast syntonization across all your devices for easy access to your notes from anywhere
• Multiple notebooks and tags make organizing your notes super simple

The bad

• No way to passcode protect your notes unless you pay for Premium which is a bit of a let down

Evernote is hands down the best way to take and organize notes on the iPad whether you're in class, in a meeting, or on the go. Pair that with the ability to use Evernote across any platform available and it simply can't be beat. Whether you use an iPad and an iPhone or an iPad and an Android or BlackBerry, Evernote has you covered.
