Apple just hosted its September event, announcing the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4, and more. But there was a surprise new product from Beats that didn't get mentioned in the keynote: iPhone 16 cases.

These Beats-branded cases are meant to protect your precious new device, naturally. They’re rocking a hardshell polycarbonate back,” which is essentially tough plastic that’ll probably survive a decent drop. The real kicker, though? They’re compatible with Camera Control, which is a huge plus.

Of course, Apple didn’t forget MagSafe – these cases are fully kitted out with that too. Plus, Apple wants you to know they’re “precisely crafted” for the iPhone 16. So, they should hug your phone like a second skin, caressing its buttons and edges with the utmost care.

If you fancy a bit of choice, you’ve got four colourways to pick from: Midnight Black, Summit Stone, Riptide Blue, and Sunset Purple. At $49 a pop (that’s about £39 or €46), they’re right in line with Apple’s other offerings, but with that Beats flavour sprinkled in. If you’re quick on the draw, you might even get one in hand as soon as Wednesday.

What else is new from Apple?

The iPhone 16 launch event saw plenty of announcements from Apple. There's a new Camera Control on the new iPhones, which gives better access to taking photos and videos. The screens across the line-up are better than ever, and more durable. Apple is showing a fondness for new colors this year, with plenty of options to pick from.

Apple Watch Series 10 was a big upgrade, with a bigger screen than ever before. The body is the slimmest it's ever been, things are faster on the inside, and moves the antennas to the backside of the case. Apple Watch Ultra 2 got a new colour option, and a third-gen Apple Watch SE never materialized.

AirPods also saw some big changes. AirPods 4 gain active noise cancellation, and launch an even cheaper $129 model without ANC. AirPods Max get a minor refresh with USB-C and new colours, while AirPods Pro 2 got a third iteration with new hearing tech added.

Remember the BlackBerry? In middle school, only the coolest kids had access to one and everyone else wanted to know what people were talking about on BlackBerry Messenger (BBM). There was even a period where iPhone users felt left out, dreaming of a world where BBM was available on iOS. Then things changed, the iPhone took over and iMessage became the go-to messaging service — BlackBerry was left in the dust and just like Jessie in Toy Story 2 thrown away to the tune of “When She Loved Me” by Sarah McLachlan.

Fast forward to 2024, and over 58% of the US smartphone market is dominated by iPhone according to Statcounter. BlackBerry, on the other hand, is now defunct with the last device to sport the name released in 2018: The BlackBerry Key2.

But why am I talking about BlackBerry? Enter Clicks, a case for iPhone with a BlackBerryesque keyboard attached. I’ve been using the Clicks keyboard for my iPhone 15 Pro Max over the last few weeks and while it hasn’t clicked with me it might click for you.

Clicks for iPhone

If you’ve read any of my articles in the past you may have heard that I’m a huge fan of the color yellow. When Michael Fisher (MrMobile on YouTube) revealed his passion project that hoped to bring back the heyday of physical keyboards on smartphones, my first thought was “I need that black and yellow iPhone case.” In the midst of my excitement for yellow, I overlooked the form factor of the product itself. There’s no beating around the bush, Clicks for iPhone 15 Pro Max is long and I mean looooong. It adds about 25% extra length to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, completely changing the weight balance of an already huge device. At first, I found the weight distribution all wrong, if you don’t hold the case exactly as advertised it’s like a seesaw in your hand. After using the case for a few weeks, I definitely got used to the imbalance but it never felt comfortable to use.

I never really adjusted to the new form factor of my iPhone, I’ll go into detail about the keyboard itself a little later because that aspect of the case is genuinely great. As a whole, however, using Clicks never stopped feeling like a chore and it pains me to say that considering how cool it is to have an extra 50% screen for my favorite apps.

The case is a hard shell with soft silicone covering the iPhone’s buttons on both sides. The keyboard connects via USB-C and while the keys are lovely to type on I can’t help but feel like Clicks should put some weight inside to try and counter-balance the top-heavy smartphone above it. There’s USB-C charging passthrough too so if you want to you can use Clicks indefinitely without removing the case.

Clicks for iPhone 15 Pro Max retails for $159 which is a price point that turns me off this fun gimmick. If there was a way to make the Clicks keyboard work with future models the price would feel more justified but considering a lot of people like to switch up their device every year this feels like an extortionate price for a case without MagSafe.

I’ve spoken in the past about hand cramps and how much I hate using uncomfortable tech. Well, it’s safe to say Clicks had my hands cramping continuously and after using the keyboard case on my iPhone for around 10 days I had to give up. It just never seemed to click for me (I know I’ve used this pun already in the intro) and ultimately I don’t feel like this product can be recommended to any iPhone 15 Pro Max user unless they’ve been having BlackBerry withdrawal symptoms for the last decade (in which case I say get with the times).

Another aspect I need to flag is the fact that we’ve evolved away from tiny keys and iOS 18 is just not made for a physical keyboard. Even after using Clicks relentlessly and refusing to give up, I found that it never felt natural like my iPhone’s on-screen keyboard. I tried so hard to like this product, but there’s just no way I could see myself using it long-term.

I do see a future for Clicks on iPhone

Now, I’ve been pretty scathing with my experience so far but there are positives here. For starters, I love niche technology like this and there will 100% be people out there who fall in love with Clicks for iPhone. Writing an email with a full-screen experience rules, as does using notetaking apps. The keyboard is also very similar to the experience we once had on BlackBerry, it feels as nice to type on as the now discontinued smartphone of every suit from 2004.

For me, the main issue with Clicks is the size of the biggest iPhone out there. It’s just cumbersome and absolutely exhausting to use a large case on an already large smartphone. Clicks doesn’t make a keyboard case for the iPhone 13 mini but if they did I could see a real future for the product. I own an iPhone 13 mini and side by side combined with Clicks, the device would be the size of a 15 Pro Max — in other words, ideal.

Combine a smaller form factor with Clicks’ endless shortcut customization allowing you to launch apps with the tap of a key or run automations whenever you want at the press of a button and Clicks starts to make sense. Instead, the version I’ve tried just doesn’t feel right with the modern 6.7-inch smartphone, and with rumors that Apple is set to make the iPhone 16 Pro models even larger, Clicks for iPhone is set for an even bigger identity crisis in the near future.

After an AK 47 assault rifle from Counter Strike 2 was sold for north of $1 million at auction back in January, dbrand has put out a whole new range of tech skins to celebrate — and it even comes with its own loot box mechanic. 

In the game itself, you spend real-life money on keys, which open cases with a random chance of getting skins for weapons. While most skins aren’t worth much, some are valuable enough to pay for your morning coffee or even a down payment on a house. This in-game economy hit its current peak with the StatTrak Factory Case Hardened New Blue Gem version of the AK47 and dbrand’s new cases are based on this. 

dbrand’s Case Hardened skins are available for over 200 devices, including your best iPhone, AirPods, MacBook, and more. If you buy the case, you have a 3.2% chance of getting the Blue Gem version. However, if you really want a Blue Gem version of the Case Hardened skin and don’t want to risk those odds, you can buy one for 10x the price of the traditional Case Hardened skin. 

Style over substance — iMore’s take

The Blue Gem version of this skin is very flashy and could look genuinely very nice in the right tech setup. However, it will cost you $300 for a Blue Gem iPhone 15 Pro Max shell, which is significantly more than the best iPhone 15 Pro Max cases out there right now. The standard Case Hardened case (with a 3.5% chance of getting Blue Gem) will cost you $59.90. 

Luckily, the Case Hardened skin looks pretty nice by itself.

EMF, or electromagnetic field, radiation is an area of concern for some people. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), long-term exposure may cause health issues, while high levels of EMF radiation is known to be harmful over any duration. Short-term exposure to low levels of EMF radiation, such as what you might get from an iPhone or Android smartphone, is deemed to be safe for healthy individuals. But while the WHO has not confirmed any dangerous effects of low-level EMF radiation exposure after thousands of studies, we don’t know for sure about the effects of long-term exposure. 

Should it be a factor to consider when weighing up the purchase of an upcoming iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro? According to the WHO, we just can't be certain that EMF causes dangerous health effects. In order to make a connection like this, three types of studies are needed: "Laboratory studies on cells aim to determine if there is a mechanism by which electromagnetic field exposure could cause harmful biological effects. Animal studies are essential for establishing effects in higher organisms whose physiology resembles that of humans to a degree. Epidemiological studies look for statistical associations between field exposure and the incidence of specific adverse health outcomes in humans." 

In other words, in order to prove a connection between EMF and health hazards, we would need to have lots of research done three ways: in the lab on cells, animal testing, and epidemiological (statistical) studies. 

From the WHO: "Results of diverse studies (cellular, animal, and epidemiology) must be considered together before drawing conclusions about possible health risks of a suspected environmental hazard. Consistent evidence from these very different types of studies increases the degree of certainty about a true effect." 

To put it simply, the results of all of these studies would need to give the same result. Correlation is not the same as causation. We aren't there yet.

The WHO goes on to note that the lack of proven health effects so far could mean that there really aren't any. But it could also mean that we just haven't been able to detect the link with our current testing methods. 

Clearly, more studies are needed for definitive answers. In the meantime, in the interest of caution, case manufacturer Atom Studios has created the Alara case to protect users from EMF radiation.

I wrote about the Alara case in a recent article, Do you need to spend $100 on an iPhone case? As you can tell from the title, the Alara is a pricey case. But is it worth $100? It’s quite a nice case, combining silicone and recycled plastic with a soft microfiber interior. The case is aesthetically appealing and protective, offering 10-foot drop protection and full MagSafe compatibility. Of course, you can find similarly attractive and protective cases for far less money. But if EMF radiation is a concern of yours, you might find it worth its price tag. I spoke with Ryan McCaughey, the Chief Scientist at Atom Studios to learn more about EMF radiation and the Alara case, to try to understand if this is a concern everyone needs to have — or a marketing trick to separate you from your cash.

How bad is EMF radiation?

According to Ryan, there is a growing body of evidence that long-term exposure to radiofrequency (RF) EMF has negative health effects in humans, particularly in regards to the brain and fertility. He mentioned that the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified RF as a “possible carcinogen” since 2011, based on research that shows an increased risk of brain tumors in heavy cell phone users. He tells me that the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP) found “clear evidence” of cancerous heart tumors in rats due to RF exposure. Ryan suggested that sperm quality could be negatively affected by cell phone use. He also mentioned that 50 minutes of cell phone exposure will alter brain glucose metabolism in the area of the brain closest to the antenna.

Should you be worried about using a smartphone at all, or even keeping it in your pocket?

The studies mentioned above generally involve people holding their phones up to their ears to talk. But what if you’re holding it in your hands or keeping it in your pocket? There are too many variables to test hand-held use, such as texting, since everyone holds a phone differently. 

But iPhone manuals used to have a warning telling users to keep the phone 15 millimeters (0.59 inches) from the body. Now the manufacturer’s RF exposure guidelines are more ambiguous and hidden in the Settings, explaining only how it was tested – 5 millimeters from the body. 

Ryan explains that this means if you’re keeping your iPhone in your pocket, it will probably exceed safe exposure limits. One thing to note: the radiation comes from the back of the phone, so putting your iPhone in your pocket with the screen facing your body is safer than the other way.

How are cell phone manufacturers even able to sell phones?

In the US, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) sets the limit for radiation exposure at a Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) level of 1.6 watts per kilogram (W/kg). This is a metric for quantifying the rate at which cell phone radiation is absorbed by the human body. All phones must be tested by independent certified labs before they can be released. 

Some feel that this limit is too lax since it was established in 1996 before keeping a cell phone in your pocket every day was common. Not to mention the possible effects on children – it was far rarer for children to have cell phones back then than they do now.

So how does the Alara case offer EMF protection?

Ryan explained that the Alara case uses patented antenna technology to redirect radiation away from the head and body. Highly conductive silver elements change the phone’s electromagnetic field spatial pattern to reduce the amount of radiation absorbed by the body. Atom Studios claims that the Alara case reduces your exposure to cell phone radiation (or SAR) by up to 75%. According to Ryan, the Alara case undergoes rigorous lab testing by RF Exposure Lab, an independent, accredited facility. 

The Alara doesn’t block or shield radiation; it changes the radiation pattern from the phone. That’s why it only needs to cover the back, not the front of the phone. Since it’s diverting rather than blocking, your cellular signal won’t be affected. Other EMF radiation protection cases do claim to block or shield radiation, but they may also block your cellular signal. Ironically, a blocked or weak signal causes your iPhone to transmit even more radiation.

What else can you do to protect yourself from EMF radiation?

Keep your iPhone out of your pocket and away from your body as much as possible. Using your iPhone when it has a weak signal is more dangerous than using it when it has a strong one. Ryan explained that the iPhone uses dynamic power management, which means that it optimizes battery life by transmitting the minimum required for connection. The farther you are from a cell tower, the more signal your iPhone has to transmit to make a connection, which means your exposure is higher. You could even put your iPhone in Airplane Mode when you’re not using it, like overnight for example.

Of course, cell phones aren’t the only sources of EMF radiation in most people’s homes. Microwave ovens, Wi-Fi routers, and Bluetooth headphones are common sources as well. A microwave oven exposes you to about 300 microwatts per square centimeter (µW/cm2) if you’re standing close by, compared to 600 µW/cm2 from a phone that’s 2 millimeters from your body. Wi-Fi routers expose you to less than 1 µW/cm2 as long as you’re three feet away or more. Bluetooth earbuds are only about a tenth as powerful as your iPhone, but they are right in your ears.

How worried should you be about EMF radiation?

There is no conclusive proof that it is dangerous, but there is also no proven safe level of exposure. Certainly, there is no harm in taking simple precautionary measures. If nothing else, keep your handset farther from your body whenever possible. Use the speaker phone rather than holding the device up to your ear for phone conversations. Try not to keep your smartphone in your pocket, but if you must, then keep the screen against your body and the back of the phone facing away from you.

Should you buy the Alara case? As mentioned above, it’s a nice case, at least from an aesthetic point of view, and the physical protection it offers. But I only have the company’s word on the case’s level of radiation protection, with the jury out even among health professionals as to how concerned we need be in relation to radiation produced by our mobile devices. While pricey, Alara’s EMF radiation protection may, at the very least, give you some peace of mind if you have concerns.

A week ago, we heard about the iPhone that survived a 16,000-foot drop from a flight, and now we know how it managed this feat. The phone had taken a plummet because the door on the Alaska Airlines flight ASA1282 flight tore off. The flight landed back safely with no casualties, and one iPhone flung out to tell the tale.

The iPhone, it turns out, had a Spigen case on. The $65 Spigen Cryo Armor protected the phone from taking catastrophic damage, it appears. The company tweeted that the phone was found with their case on it, according to the owner of the phone.

Spigen Cryo Armor case saves the day

Spigen tweeted out that the iPhone that survived the 16,000-ft drop had a Spigen case on. The case was apparently the Spigen Cryo Armor, as revealed by a friend of Cuong Tran, the owner of the iPhone. The model was the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Spigen posted the screenshot of the text sent by the owner's friend, as well as photos of the phone with the case on. Alaska Airlines mailed the phone back to Tran after it was recovered, and the phone looks perfectly fine in the case despite the massive fall.

Spigen has been making consistently great iPhone cases for a while now, and this drop is a solid testament to the quality of the case. Even if we account for a soft fall, the phone would have reached a pretty high speed, having taken a fall that's approximately the length of over forty-four American football fields. With that context, the case deserves at least some praise, if not all the credit.

The Spigen Cryo Armor is currently available for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 series, coming in at $64.99. On Amazon, you can get the case for as low as $23 for some models, like the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. 

When I got my iPhone 15 Pro Max with my phone contract, it was the most expensive and impressive phone I had ever owned. For this reason, it felt important to put a case on it that matched the device's greatness. When Karen, a regular iMore contributor, and Gerald, our Editor-in-chief, told me they’d send out some spare cases, II thought I'd get a few choices to pick from. But I didn’t expect a full box would show up with dozens of different designs inside.

Luckily, with the fiasco that is spending hours trying on and opening new cases comes quite a lot of knowledge about what makes one good. If you have just bought an iPhone, here’s what you should look out for if you want to buy the best iPhone case for you.

Straight to the Action

The Action button is one of the biggest changes for the iPhone 15 Pro line, and many cases that appear to have started production before officially knowing about it opt for an Action button cutout, as opposed to a specifically designed button in the case. This means that unless you have small fingers or longer nails, it can be a bit tough to click that button. 

Unfortunately, given that the Action button is supposed to be used quickly to do away with searching around and unlocking the phone, a case without a dedicated button defeats that purpose. Thinner cases can get away with a cutout as they don’t obstruct the Action button too much, but it’s still a consideration in your case purchase. 

Making it clear

Clear cases have a tendency to turn a little yellow over time. There are companies like dbrand that promise its cases won’t yellow but many third-party or generic cases will turn that ugly shade of brown-yellow in just a few short months. When you pick up a clear case, make sure to check what’s being promised and if the brand behind it is reputable. 

While you are there, you can also check for frayed edges or any parts of the design that you anticipate rubbing off your clothes or pockets in ways that may damage the case in question. Cases are designed to protect your phone but don’t always do a good job of protecting themselves. Generally, these clear cases will be made of plastic so keep that in mind, in regard to both feel and durability. If you want something smoother feeling, you could go for something with leather or Apple's new FineWoven, which we weren't huge fans of. 

Durability first 

I have fallen into the trap of picking up a case just because it looks nice, only to discover it doesn’t quite do its job in regard to tough falls and scrapes. Though it can be easy to pick up what you think is pretty, it is better to have an ugly iPhone than a broken one. 

Luckily, you don’t have to choose between one or the other here, and there are plenty of excellent, nice-looking cases out there. It's also worth noting the material your case comes from can impact durability and feel. If you pick a case that is shockproof, it can sustain those high-height hits that might break other cases so it is worth looking out for. 

MagSafe and sound

With so many chargers coming with a wireless charging section, it is important to not limit yourself with your case. If you can afford to go up to a MagSafe case, you won’t regret it. Before upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the best iPhone right now, I had an iPhone 12 with one of the cheapest cases I could find, which I always had to take off just to use wireless charging. 

It’s not worth the effort and time of missing out on one of the most convenient charging solutions out there. 

Remember, not all iPhones are the same size, even if their screens are!

Though this may seem obvious, it is important to note that different models of iPhone need different cases. Apart from the obvious physical changes from the iPhone 14 Pro to the iPhone 15 Pro, like the Action button and the move to USB-C, their dimensions are ever so slightly different. 

Make sure that, if you have an iPhone 15 Pro Max, like I do, you exclusively pick up and try iPhone 15 Pro Max cases. Some physical shops will even let you test cases out, so make sure to avail of that service where you can. 

Putting a case on a brand new iPhone is always a bit of a shame — with a phone as good-looking as the new iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro series, you want the world to see your shiny new toy in all its glory. But a good case can look smart in its own right, while also protecting your precious, expensive device from bumps and scratches. It’s a fair trade off, especially if you’re looking to sell your device further down the line.

But this year Apple has made a rare misstep with its official cases for the iPhone 15 family. The suede-like FineWoven case for iPhone 15 handsets, despite being initially attractive, is simply flawed — a magnet for grime, uncomfortable to hold, and overpriced given its problems.

Put simply, buy a third-party case instead. Want all the gory details? Read on.

Apple FineWoven Case: Price and Availability

The iPhone FineWoven case range for iPhone 15 (and 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max and 15 Plus) is available now and costs $59 per case. There’s a good selection of five color options available (Mulberry red, Evergreen green, a sandy Taupe, Black, and a light Pacific Blue which is pictured in this review), and there are matching card-holding FineWoven Wallets with MagSafe magnetic connections to pair them with, too.

$59 is a lot to spend on an iPhone case, but usually, the premium you pay for an official Apple-designed case comes with a sense of quality that makes it seem worthwhile. And while Apple’s environmental reasons for investing in the case material change are admirable, the resulting product leaves a lot to be desired. Your money is better spent on alternative options.

Apple FineWoven Case: What I Like

Apple’s heart is in the right place with the creation of the FineWoven range at least. Made from ‘microtwill’, it’s a far more environmentally friendly product than Apple’s previously-leather cases, now discontinued — each FineWoven case is made from 68 percent post-consumer recycled content. Moving to a more sustainable production process should be applauded.

Likewise, the color range on offer is understated and complimentary to this year’s handset designs, while the rubberized edges will offer a decent level of fall protection should you clumsily drop the case. It’s a snug fit for your phone, the magnetic MagSafe connection is powerful and secure when used with wireless chargers and the afore-mentioned wallet accessory, and I’ve no reason to question the FineWoven case’s ability to protect the iPhone 15 handsets housed within it.

But beyond that, things go downhill.

Apple FineWoven Case: What I Don't Like

I’ve never been a huge fan of fabric-style phone cases, and the FineWoven iPhone 15 case is no exception. Its suede-like finish is difficult to grip, making it feel as though it will slip from my hand, and its fabric finish retains heat and makes my palm feel clammy — as if I’ve left it in my pocket for too long on a warm day. There may be a bit of personal bias here too, but the texture just feels a bit… odd. Not unpleasant necessarily, but not anonymous either.

The last thing you want is for your hands to be mucky or sweaty too when using the FineWoven case, as it will retain stains that are difficult to remove. Like any fabric, oils, liquids and general dirt will leave marks on the microtwill used here, and cleaning them off can be very difficult. Compare that to a wipe clean plastic case (or even a leather case, which is easy to wipe off), and the FineWoven material quickly looks grimy. You wouldn’t want to be eating a burger and have to quickly grab the phone for a call.

It’s also very easy to scratch — in fact, the inner side of my case (thankfully not visible when the phone is in place) was scratched before I ever took it out of the box, showing just how easy it is to leave marks on the FineWoven cases. Even a light fingernail drag across the case, easily done when removing it from a pocket, can leave a light line on the case, ruining its look and near-impossible to buff out. Within a few days, the case looked as if it had aged considerably and, unlike with leather where a patina effect can be desirable, the wear here just looks grubby.

I’ve also found difficulty inserting some unofficial USB-C cables into the bottom cutout slot. Sure, the one that comes with the iPhone 15 Pro fits fine — but that is a low spec cable, and I’ve got lots of better ones laying around. That’s the whole point of USB-C, giving the iPhone 15 line-up access to the accessories you already have around the home. But the fit of this case will mean there’s no guarantee chunkier cable connections will squeeze in.

In its defense, Apple is up front about some of the potential pitfalls of the product. In its own store product listing page, it states that the “FineWoven material may show wear over time. Interaction with MagSafe accessories will leave slight imprints. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use an iPhone 15 Pro Max Silicone Case or Clear Case.”

And if Apple is suggesting maybe you should look at alternatives, that’s about as red as flags come.

Apple is set to release two new leather case colors for its iPhone Spring collection according to iPhone analyst, Majin Bu. 

Apple like to release seasonal colors every year, with new iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands added to the Apple Store throughout the year and 2023 appears to be no different.

The photos, revealed on Twitter, show two new colors. Golden Brown, which looks like the spiritual successor to the previously released Saddle Brown leather iPhone cases, and Deep Violet, an aubergine-colored purple that should match perfectly with the Deep Purple iPhone 14 Pro. CASETiFY Compostable Case: Sustainable in every way

Before going into all of the environmental benefits of a biodegradable case, I'd like to say that this is actually a really good case aside from its compostability. The plant-based material is pliable and grippy to the touch, but very tough. It's rated with 4-foot drop protection, but I think that it could withstand much more because of the raised edges around the screen and camera, along with the extra layer of cushion around each corner. 

Although the case is plain and simple in design, the speckled texture and matte finish give it a little something extra. If you add a custom print, it will be even more visually unique and interesting. For the purposes of this review, I kept mine in its original unprinted form. 

The Casetify Compostable Case is made with a "proprietary blend of biopolymers, starch, and bamboo," according to Casetify, and these materials break down into their natural elements when left in a compost heap. No toxins will be left behind after it decomposes, not even from the inks. I find this so impressive in today's society of plastic everything, and I hope to see more companies offering this type of innovation for everyday consumer goods. 

Finally, I like to support Casetify with my business because they do a lot more for the environment than making a compostable iPhone case. Their production facilities are ISO14001-certified for minimal environmental impact, and they use simple rainwater collection and recycling processes as well. All Casetify packaging is made with recycled and recyclable materials, right down to the eco-friendly inks they use for printing. When it comes to conscious consumerism, Casetify makes it easy. 

CASETiFY Compostable Case: No room for oopsies

There's really not a lot to complain about with the Casetify Compostable Case. The only thing I noticed is that, although the plant-based material is plenty durable and protective, it does seem to absorb grime. When my son spilled juice next to the case, it absorbed the purple color; I found it to be pretty difficult to scrub out the stain. The same is true for dirt and grime; the case seems to become stained easily and can be difficult to clean. Because of this, my suggestion would be to choose a darker color for the case so that stains don't show as much. 

CASETiFY Compostable Case: Competition

Although there are several eco-friendly cases arriving onto the market, the most established brand is Pela. Like the Casetify Compostable Case, the Pela Case is also plant-based and biodegradable. As we mentioned in our review of the Pela Case, the brand offers a lot of cute designs, some of which you can have engraved, but they do not offer custom prints. Pela cases are slightly more expensive than Casetify, but also a bit less protective. This makes Casetify the better deal in my opinion.

Ever since the iPhone 4, a lot of people, including myself, have relied on the iPhone for photography. In fact, believe it or not, I don't own a digital camera anymore. All I use to take photos, including all of my photos for iMore, is an iPhone.

And with iPhone photography came an entire market of iPhone photography-related accessories, including lenses and filters that take your pictures to the next level. One of the brands that you may be familiar with for iPhone photography accessories is SANDMARC. SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case: Price and availability

While there are some select SANDMARC products on Amazon, the Pro Leather iPhone case is not available there, unfortunately. The only place you can obtain the SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case is direct from SANDMARC's website. The Pro Leather Case is available for the iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max models. It comes in two colors: brown or black, and all versions of the Pro Leather Case are MagSafe-compatible. The SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case costs $50.

SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case: A leather case for iPhone photographers

The SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case is made with a genuine, premium full-grain leather that is soft and supple to the touch. It even has a faint leather smell to it, which, if you're a real leather fan, you'll love and appreciate. The interior is lined with a soft microfiber material (it feels like suede) that won't scratch up your iPhone's body. You will also see the magnetic ring on the interior, but there is no sign of it on the exterior. On the backside, you'll find a simple "SANDMARC" logo embossed in the leather toward the bottom. Near the bottom left side of the case are two small holes — you can thread an optional wrist strap here if you choose.

You'll find metal button covers for the side button, as well as the volume buttons. Despite not actually going around the buttons (the inside where the buttons are is flat; see picture to see what I'm talking about), these metallic buttons feel tactile and are very easy to press. I've come across other cases where buttons become hard to press or feel squishy, so I'm glad to see that isn't the case (pun not intended) here. On my brown case, the bronze/copper buttons are a nice contrast to the leather color and give it a touch of professionalism.

Like most other cases, you do get a slight lip around the front screen to protect it from scratches and scuffs if you place it face down on a flat surface. However, like other leather cases, it's not very thick. If that's a concern, then you may want to look elsewhere.

The cutouts on the SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case are very precise. Despite that, the cutout for the Lightning port still has a bit of room around it, so it should be able to accommodate whichever Lightning cable you use, even ones with reinforced ends. I did notice that the cutout for the mute toggle is a little deep, so you may need to flick the toggle with your nail.

The most unique thing about the SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case is the camera area. The Pro Leather case has an aluminum camera bump that is a bit thicker than what you would normally find on most cases. It's thick enough that it protrudes a little more than the actual cameras themselves, so even if you place the iPhone down on a surface, it shouldn't be touching the lenses. The camera cutouts also have machined threading on them (except the telephoto lens) so they can work seamlessly with SANDMARC-branded lens and filter accessories. If you are an iPhone photographer, then the SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case is a great choice to consider.

SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case: The magnets could have been better

Even though the SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case is MagSafe-compatible, it doesn't feel like the magnetic hold is as strong as it could be. For example, I slapped my PopSockets PopGrip for MagSafe on it and could pull it off with minimal effort, whereas it takes a bit of force to take it off my Sonix MagSafe case, which is my daily driver, or even the Apple Silicone Case. This is a little disappointing, and I'm not sure if it's strong enough to stay on my MagSafe car mount if I'm on a bumpy road (this has happened to me before, where a weak MagSafe case caused my phone to fall off the mount while driving).

Another thing I personally didn't care for was the thin front lip. I personally like the front lip of cases to be a little thicker for extra protection (I'm clumsy), so I'm not too thrilled with the minimal lip that the SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case provides. However, I know that this is a common design with most leather cases, so it just comes with the territory.

I also wish there were more color options besides brown and black, though I suppose this is because it's a leather case and choices are limited. I would have also preferred the branding to not be on the back, and the camera cover is marketed as only compatible with SANDMARC lenses. So if you already have some lenses of your own, then it may not work with this case.

SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case: Competition

For those who are looking for a great leather iPhone 13 Pro case, there certainly is no shortage of options out there. One of my personal favorites comes from CASETiFY, which I've reviewed with the CASETiFY MagSafe Leather case. I like these because CASETiFY offers a wide range of different colors for its cruelty-free leather, and you can even pick from fun designs, including collaborations with big brands like Disney. It also has a strong and secure magnetic hold, and you can customize them if you desire. However, it definitely is a little pricier.

Another nice leather case is the Woolnut Leather Case for iPhone with MagSafe, which our own Karen Freeman reviewed. In her review, Freeman likes the case and recommends it to anyone who wants a high-end, full-grain pebbled leather case that not only looks great but feels amazing too. It's also very lightweight and unobtrusive, with strong magnets.

SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case is definitely a unique leather iPhone case on the market. Not only does it look elegant and professional, but it also adds some extra protection for your camera lenses. Plus, if you're into iPhone photography, then you should check out SANDMARC's outstanding lineup of iPhone lenses and filters, which also work seamlessly with the Pro Leather Case. The metallic buttons also add a nice bit of contrast to the leather and are incredibly tactile too.

However, while the SANDMARC Pro Leather iPhone case has a lot of good going for it, there are also some flaws to consider too. For one, the magnets don't seem as strong as some other cases on the market, so you would need to be extra cautious about using it with something like a MagSafe car mount while driving. And as nice as the extra camera protection is, if you don't plan on using SANDMARC lenses and filters, then this case may not be the best choice. After all, there are a lot of other nice leather cases for your iPhone that are just as effective.

But if you are an avid iPhone photographer and already have, or are planning to get some SANDMARC lenses and filters, then this is a nice case to try.

Spigen is primarily known for its well-priced, great-quality tech accessories. However, the Enzo case marks a bit of a departure: while it is of excellent quality, the price point is on another level. Crafted from Italian Genoma™ leather, this svelte MagSafe-compatible iPhone case features diamond-cut metal accents. It also comes with an included wrist strap that you can attach for extra security while holding your iPhone.

The Spigen Enzo iPhone Case is available for the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max on Spigen's website. Black is the only color option. It costs $150.

Spigen Enzo iPhone Case: What's good

The back is crafted from full-grain Italian Genoma™ leather, which is a two-year-old cowhide that's been vegetable-tanned for over a year. The anodized aluminum accents include the camera module lip, Sleep/Wake button, volume buttons, and Spigen logo. They are diamond-cut for a precise bezel finish, and the line in the middle of each button and around the camera module adds texture and a unique look.

The edges of the case are smooth and rubbery; they are neither grippy nor slippery. The lip of the case extends just enough over the iPhone screen to offer face-down protection. Cutouts for the camera module, mute switch, Lightning port, and speakers are properly sized for full functionality.

Along one side of the case are two small holes for attaching the included leather wrist strap. You can use the strap for extra security while holding your iPhone if you wish. The MagSafe magnetic ring is visible on the inside of the case, which is lined with soft microfiber. The MagSafe ring on this case works nicely, giving a nice "snap" with my MagSafe accessories.

Overall, the case feels sufficiently protective while remaining streamlined and slim. Each case also includes a certification of authenticity, a lifetime warranty, and access to a specialized team to provide quick support.

Spigen Enzo iPhone Case: What's not good

My main concern about this case is the price. As you'll see below in the "Competition" section, there are plenty of other luxury leather options that cost much less.

For some reason Spigen chose to use a raised, metal logo on the back. Since it's raised, it might get in the way of certain MagSafe accessories, causing them not to work properly. Obviously, there won't be any issue with the perfectly round accessories such as the Apple MagSafe charger. The problem is the more elongated accessories such as wallets, grips, and batteries, that cover the logo area. I tested this case with the PopSocket PopGrip for MagSafe and surprisingly, the magnetic connection was still quite strong and it worked fine. I also tried the OtterBox Wireless Power Bank for MagSafe and the connection definitely wasn't as strong. It still stayed put, but it was easier to jostle out of place, which isn't good. The battery did still charge the iPhone like it's supposed to, regardless.

If you want to get nit-picky, I did find the wrist strap difficult to attach, since the holes are small and the string is a bit floppy. I'd also like to see this case in more color options since black wouldn't generally be my first choice. Also, the Spigen Enzo case isn't available for the iPhone 12 or older models, only for the iPhone 13 lineup (not including the iPhone 13 mini).

Spigen Enzo iPhone Case: Competition

Apple's own Leather Case with MagSafe comes in some gorgeous colors, so there is something for everyone. It's available for all of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineup. It's also high-quality leather, yet at $59 it's well under half the price of the Spigen case.

The Woolnut Leather iPhone Case with MagSafe has more of a nubbly texture than the Spigen Enzo Case, which may or may not be preferable to the smooth leather of other cases, depending on your taste. I'd also say it's more streamlined and less protective than the Enzo. It comes in two colors and is available for many iPhone models, but the MagSafe feature is only for the iPhone 13 lineup. Pricewise, it's in the $60 price range, like the Apple Leather Case.

The Nomad Rugged Leather Case with MagSafe comes in a few natural leather colors and is available for a bunch of iPhone models; but the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups offer MagSafe compatibility. This case is a bit thicker and more protective than the Enzo, offering up to 10-foot drop protection. This case is also in the $60 price range, making it quite a bit cheaper than the Spigen Enzo iPhone Case.

The Spigen Enzo iPhone Case is certainly an appealing case. With a soft microfiber interior, MagSafe ring, diamond-cut metal accents, and full-grain Italian Genoma™ leather, it looks and feels amazing. The case is slim and sleek yet provides plenty of coverage to protect your iPhone. Functionally it works well with the iPhone and a convenient wrist strap is included in case you want that extra layer of security. However, it's only for the iPhone 13, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max, and it only comes in one color: black. And the raised logo may present an issue for certain MagSafe accessories. The biggest pill to swallow is the price; it's well over double the price of comparable cases from other brands.

The case also comes with a lifetime warranty and an exclusive VIP support line, which you'd expect for an iPhone case that costs $150. The design and materials combine to make this one of the most distinctive and premium iPhone cases on offer. When I had the original iPhone, I chose not to use a case and one day dropped it on the concrete on my way to work. As you may have guessed, the screen shattered and I was devastated. Ever since, I've been a proud advocate for using some kind of case on your iPhone to protect it from everyday bumps and drops, because nothing is sadder than a broken iPhone.

But when it comes to choosing a case, I can be rather picky. Depending on my mood, I usually want something that is fashionable or cute, but still dependable on drop protection. And ever since the iPhone 12, MagSafe is also a requirement. As you can see, that's a lot of boxes to tick off for me.

Thankfully, Sonix makes a good lineup of MagSafe iPhone cases for anyone who is looking for a great cute case that has it all. It's one of my favorite cases for my iPhone 13 Pro.

Sonix MagSafe iPhone case: Price and availability

Sonix cases are available direct from Sonix's website, or you can find them at retailers like Amazon. You can also check out some Sonix products at carrier stores like AT&T. There is a large variety of different designs and patterns to choose from, though the best selection for that is on Sonix's website. Every now and then, Sonix does special, limited-edition collaborations with other brands, such as the current Sonix x Sanrio collection, which has been updated for Cinnamoroll's 20th anniversary. The range of MagSafe cases from Sonix start at $45.

Sonix MagSafe iPhone case: Cute protection for daily use

Sonix MagSafe iPhone case is made with a flexible, antimicrobial material that makes it easy to get the case on and off when needed. Though most of the cases are a glossy finish, Sonix claims that these also have a scratch-resistant coating, so it's definitely more durable through everyday wear and tear. This coating is also resistant to marks that may be left behind with some MagSafe accessories, which is a huge bonus for me. And like a lot of companies right now, these cases are also made with sustainable, eco-friendly materials. I'm not sure if it's 100% compostable like the Pela case, but Sonix says it's "biodegradable."

The Sonix MagSafe iPhone case has an overall slim profile. So if you're worried about bulk, don't — the case itself is very sleek and lightweight. I'm honestly a big fan of the raised lip around the front screen that this case provides. It is thick enough to protect your screen from surfaces if placed screen-down, but it won't interfere with your screen protector either. And even though it looks "thick," it doesn't get in the way at all when you use your phone. So when you perform swipe gestures, there is zero issue when coming in from the screen edges.

The cutouts on the Sonix MagSafe iPhone case are very precise, but leave you a bit of room for leeway. So the opening for the charging port should accommodate most Lightning charging cables, speakers are not muffled, and the silent toggle is easy to access. On the back, the opening for the camera is non-intrusive so it won't get in the way of photographs. For the iPhone 13 Pro, it's also raised enough to fit the large camera bump.

Now, one of my biggest nitpicks with pretty much any phone case is how the buttons feel once the case is on. I have come across cases that make the buttons hard to press, or they feel squishy with no tactile feedback. Thankfully, Sonix cases have some of the best button covers. They are incredibly tactile, and pretty much feel like the natural button press when you don't have a case on. It's one of my favorite features of a Sonix case, and a big reason why I usually end up returning to the few Sonix cases that I have. If you value a good button click, you can't go wrong with Sonix.

And since this review is covering the MagSafe version of Sonix's cases, I must say that the magnets are incredibly strong. My most-used MagSafe accessory is the PopSockets PopGrip for MagSafe, and it stays on the Sonix case very well. In fact, I really have to put force in my pull when removing it, because it's on there pretty darn good. I also have no problem with my MagSafe car mounts or even MagSafe battery packs. I have tried out some MagSafe cases where the magnets are kind of weak, so I really like how strong Sonix's magnets are in comparison.

Sonix MagSafe iPhone case: The designs may not be your taste

When it comes to Sonix MagSafe iPhone cases, I honestly don't really have any complaints. But I suppose that the designs may not be for everyone — they definitely lean more towards the feminine side, I guess. And the cases are a little pricey at $45 a pop. However, they are some of the most high-quality cases I've used.

Sonix MagSafe iPhone case: Competition

When it comes to phone cases, there is certainly no shortage. In fact, I would even say that the market is oversaturated, so a case really needs to grab my attention before I consider it. If you want another great iPhone case that has MagSafe options and is super protective, check out Velvet Caviar. You'll find plenty of unique and fashionable designs, and they're also durable, no matter what you happen to throw at them. Velvet Caviar cases are also a little less, as they tend to start at $35.

Another good option for a cute MagSafe case are the Kate Spade cases. These come in a clear, hardshell design with a few different holographic patterns. The clear shell allows you to show off your iPhone color, such as the new green iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 Pro, and still has MagSafe compatibility. It's a little pricier though at $50, but that's probably because of the Kate Spade name.

Sonix MagSafe iPhone case: Should you buy it?

Sonix MagSafe iPhone cases are one of my personal favorites. It offers plenty of fun designs and patterns, especially if you like collaborations like Sonix x Sanrio. The case itself is antimicrobial and eco-friendly, and it has a scratch-resistant coating that makes it look great, even over an extended amount of time. This coating also seems to be resistant to marks left behind by MagSafe accessories, as I have had no issues over the past several weeks with a few different Sonix cases. And if you're like me and rather particular about buttons, Sonix MagSafe is great because it feels like a natural button press, rather than something squishy or hard to push. It has that perfect tactile feedback.

Of course, it's hard to recommend these cases if you don't like the designs offered or the price tag. It's definitely not a super affordable case, but I honestly think it's well worth the price for the reasons I mentioned above. And if you are into fashionable or cute cases, then there is sure to be at least one design that you'll love, especially if you're a big Sanrio fan.

Every company wants to look more environmentally friendly, right? But those cases still aren't going to fully break down if they are tossed out because they're still made with plastic or silicone.

Enter the Pela case. Pela's Flaxstic material is made from starch-based products and flax shive, so it is largely plant-based. And unlike other cases that claim to be "biodegradable," a Pela case is actually fully compostable in under six months, making it a super environmentally-friendly case choice.

I had the opportunity to check out a Pela case, and it is definitely a case that I can feel good about using with my favorite iPhone.

Pela iPhone Case: Price and availability

Pela makes cases for all models of iPhone going back to the iPhone 5/5s/SE, and as recent as the iPhone 13 lineup, arguably the best iPhone. You can also find Pela cases for the Google Pixel series, Samsung Galaxy lineup, Huawei P50/Pro, and OnePlus 9. The price varies depending on the model you are purchasing for, but it can range from $42 to $60. Pela cases are available direct from Pela's website. Still, you can also find some colors and models on retailer sites like Amazon and Best Buy, with even lower prices than Pela direct. There are a lot of different colors and designs to pick from.

Pela iPhone Case: A protective case that fully breaks down when you're done with it

Since I've been here at iMore, I have reviewed a few different phone cases that say they use recycled plastics and other sustainable materials. However, that's the issue — they still use plastic. The Pela case is unique because it does not utilize plastic. Instead, it is composed of a starch-based and flax shive. The result is a bioplastic elastomer that Pela calls "Flaxstic," which also completely breaks down without leaving behind any toxins. In fact, a Pela case can completely break down in your compost in under six months, whereas other "biodegradable" cases will still be largely intact.

Due to the Flaxstic that has starch-based materials, the Pela case has a soft-touch, velvety feel. It also appears matte so that it may show oily smudges over time. Overall, it reminds me of how most silicone cases feel, except without that sticky feeling. I keep my phone in my pockets, and so far have not had issues with lint and debris getting all over the case. The case itself is also incredibly flexible, so it's super easy to get it on and off the case when necessary.

One may be concerned that the Pela case is not as protective as hardshell plastic cases. That's not entirely true. Flax shive, one of the plant-based materials used, is a waste product from wheat. In this case, the purpose of flax shive is to provide shock absorption from impacts and drops. I've tested dropping my iPhone 13 Pro around the house with the Pela case on (as I usually would), and it has done its job well so far. My case does not have a lot of scuffs on it, and my iPhone 13 Pro remains in pristine condition.

The interior of the Pela case, at least for iPhone 13 models, actually has a square space where the magnets should be. This is because when you purchase a Pela iPhone 13 case, you can add a MagSafe Module for another $5. If you purchase this, you simply put that MagSafe module in that space, and it turns your Pela case into one that works with all of your favorite MagSafe accessories. Of course, this is entirely optional, so you can totally skip out on the module if you don't need MagSafe. But if you do, it's also nice that MagSafe is just $5 more, rather than another $10 for a different version of the case like a lot of other brands do it.

I've tried a lot of phone cases out over the years, and one of my pet peeves are cases that make the buttons all squishy or incredibly hard to press. I like that perfect balance of tactile feedback with a click. The Pela case has some of the larger button covers that I've seen, but the case still provides that nice tactile feeling when you push the buttons.

You also have precise cutouts for the cameras, charging ports, and speakers, as well as the mute toggle. The toggle for mute is also quite shallow so that you can get to it without much effort. Since the cutout for the camera does stick out a little, there is a tiny bit of wobble when you touch the screen while it is lying on a flat surface. However, it's not too bad, honestly, and for the most part, it is stable enough. And the opening for the charging port is wide enough that most cables should fit without an issue.

The front of the case has raised edges to keep your screen safe if you place it face down on flat surfaces. The lip should also help protect the screen if you drop it. Those with a excellent screen protector on their iPhone should not have issues with the Pela case pushing up on it, as the edges are not too thick. However, you may have an issue if you have a fully edge-to-edge screen protector on.

For my sample of the Pela case, I received the more recent Sage Green Hearts design, which I love. However, Pela has plenty of different colors, designs, and patterns to choose from, so there's bound to be at least one that suits your personal tastes. And honestly, I found all of its designs to be cute or classy without being too obnoxious. And as far as branding goes, there is the Pela logo on the back of the case towards the bottom, but I found it to be subtle enough.

Pela iPhone Case: MagSafe is an optional add-on

I'm definitely enjoying Pela's phone cases, but they're not perfect. I do wish that MagSafe was just included for the iPhone 13 versions instead of being an add-on that you need to pay extra for. After all, the case is already quite pricey, so why not just include MagSafe for the price? I also found it a little odd that the iPhone 12 versions don't have the option for a MagSafe add-on, despite being the first iPhone lineup with MagSafe.

I also would have liked the front edges to be a little thicker than what they are right now. I've really grown to love how most OtterBox and LifeProof cases have raised edges that also slope out and inward towards the screen (like a house roof), making it seem a little thicker. It just gives me more peace of mind when I set my phone face down on a table.

Lastly, the Pela case is certainly not cheap. However, these high-quality cases that are genuinely compostable and environmentally friendly. I love the fact that they will fully break down in compost once you're done with it, so you aren't cluttering up the landfills. Plus, Pela often has deals going on, so it I think it's worth it if you can find them on sale. Plus, you'll feel good about the purchase.

Pela iPhone Case: Competition

When it comes to the best iPhone cases that are environmentally friendly, there is certainly no shortage of those these days. If you are looking for a fun case that is made with recycled materials, then you should consider OtterBox's Core Series with MagSafe case. It consists of 50% recycled material, and it has a soft-touch exterior similar to Pela's case. One of my favorite things about it is the unique "funfetti" look, as it has colored specks all throughout — these are actually ground-up bits of plastic waste. It's definitely a unique aesthetic, and one that's quite fun.

Another good option for a green case is LifeProof's SEE case. This is a slim and lightweight case that is also made from 45% recycled materials. It comes in fun colors and has the tough and durable protection that LifeProof is known for.

While plenty of cases claim to be made with recycled materials, Pela is still the only case to actually break down in compost under six months time. This fact makes Pela still the best choice for those who want a fully environmentally friendly iPhone case.

Pela iPhone Case: Should you buy it?

For those who are looking to truly reduce their carbon footprint, then you simply can't beat the Pela case since it fully composts in six months. It's made with the brand's signature Flaxstic material that is entirely plant-based, so it's soft and flexible but still protective enough for everyday use. There are also a lot of fun colors and designs to choose from, and even if you don't have the latest iPhone 13, Pela has you covered all the way back to the iPhone 5. And those who have an iPhone 13 have the option of adding a MagSafe module to make the case compatible with the best MagSafe accessories for just a few dollars more.

The Pela case is definitely not the most inexpensive option for iPhone protection, but it is the most environmentally friendly. However, I find it a little weird that MagSafe is not included with the iPhone 13 versions for the price.

There are many people out there who use their favorite iPhone without a case. I am certainly not one of those people. Ever since I shattered the screen on my original iPhone, I have learned that it's always better to have a case on, especially if you have butterfingers as I do.

There is certainly no shortage of iPhone cases in the wild. I like something that is relatively slim but still very protective against drops and bumps. I also like it when the case is simple to install and remove if I need to clean my device or want to change to something else (it's like underwear for me).

LifeProof is a well-known brand. I associate LifeProof with its reputation of waterproof cases. However, they were always a little too much for me in terms of protection. I don't go swimming with my iPhone 13, after all. But when I saw the SEE Case, I was intrigued. For a brand that is popular for super rugged and heavy-duty cases, the SEE is an incredibly durable and protective case for the everyday.

It comes in four different colors: Black, Anchors Away (Gray/Orange), Let's Cuddlefish (Purple/Pink), and Sofishticated (Blue/Green). The retail price for the case is $60, though there is also a non-MagSafe version for a little less.

If you purchase directly from LifeProof, they will also donate $1 to one of its water-minded nonprofit organization partners. So you do not only get a great case, but you're also making a difference.

LifeProof SEE Case with MagSafe: Slim, lightweight, tough

Like some other cases from LifeProof, the SEE Case with MagSafe is made with 45% recycled plastic materials. Plus, if you buy direct from LifeProof, a small $1 donation will be made to a nonprofit, which helps you feel good about your purchase.

Even though the SEE case is made with a good chunk of recycled materials, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The plastic on the back is relatively rigid, but the front has excellent rubberized bumpers to protect the front screen. It's a one-piece shell design, making it super easy to get it on, but taking it off is also quick and straightforward. I appreciate this because I often take my phone out to clean or just change it out to a different case (it's part of the job!)

The LifeProof SEE Case with MagSafe is quite slim and lightweight so that it won't add much bulk to your iPhone 13. And because the case is plastic, it will smoothly slide into your pant pockets without issue. In addition, even though the front lip is rubberized, it won't snag or get lint stuck to it like silicone.

If you get one of the fun colors besides black, you'll find bright-colored buttons that contrast nicely with the case body color. Speaking of buttons, they also have a nice tactile feel when pressed, which I love. I have used many different cases, and one of my biggest pet peeves are button covers that make it hard to press the power and volume buttons, or if they just end up becoming squishy (shudders).

There are precise cutouts for the camera bump, charging port and speakers, and the mute toggle. Sometimes cases have fairly deep cutouts for the toggle, but the LifeProof SEE Case with MagSafe is the perfect depth — I can switch it on and off without having to dig in there. The camera cutout does stick out a bit, but honestly, there isn't that bad of a wobble if you set it on a flat surface.

The front lip is a pretty good thickness, but it shouldn't push up on your best screen protector if you aren't using an edge-to-edge one. The lip thickness does not interfere with edge swiping either.

And since this is the MagSafe version, it has full compatibility with your favorite MagSafe accessories. The recycled materials don't interfere with the strength of the magnets, as I found my MagSafe accessories to have a strong hold while using this case.

LifeProof SEE Case with MagSafe: A little pricey, branding

Honestly, there isn't much to not like about the LifeProof SEE Case with MagSafe. I think the most significant negative is that it is pretty pricey. However, you may find it for a lower price now and then at some retailers.

Another thing I'm not that fond of is branding on cases — I prefer if there is none. The LifeProof SEE Case with MagSafe has very subtle branding on the side with the power button, as you can see "LIFEPROOF" depressed into the plastic. There is no other branding on the case. Still, if you prefer not to have branding on your phone cases, this is good to note.

LifeProof SEE Case with MagSafe: Competition

There is certainly no shortage of them on the market when it comes to the best MagSafe cases for iPhone 13 Pro. If you want MagSafe but prefer leather over plastic, then you could try CASETiFY's MagSafe Leather case. CASETiFY offers a wide range of leather colors, and you can also add a fun design or pattern to it and even customize it with your initials. It's not a cheap option, but there are many choices to make the case truly yours.

If you need even more heavy-duty protection, then consider the Survivor Endurance for MagSafe iPhone case. This one is also made with recycled plastic, is antimicrobial, and can withstand drops from up to 14 feet. It's also quite slim and lightweight, though the looks may not suit everyone. It also comes in fun colors and is slightly less than LifeProof.
