Whether you want help with your productivity, documents, collaboration, or even your learning itself, there are a ton of apps that can help you get the most out of your studies, all at your fingertips on iPhone and iPad.

Pages, Keynote, and Numbers

If you're in college classes, the chances are high that you're going to need a word processor, presentation creator, or spreadsheet application. And if you're working with your best iPhone or iPad (or even a Mac), then there is nothing better and more crucial than Apple's own suite of office software.

Pages is Apple's word processor that does all of the same things that you can find in Microsoft Word, but in a sleeker interface that is easy to use. Keynote is like PowerPoint, but much more streamlined and fun to use. And Numbers is just like Excel, so you can create spreadsheets to your heart's content. And all three of these programs can save files that are compatible with Microsoft Office as well, if you need to submit files online as a .doc file or similar, for example.

Google Docs

Google offers an entire suite of apps, many of which you'll probably end up downloading on your iPad and all of your other devices. Google products are ecosystem-agnostic, meaning you can use them across Apple and non-Apple devices easily and smoothly. Google Docs is the first one you'll want to download, since you can use it to write papers, take notes in class, whatever you need.

You'll probably be able to get through school without paying for upgraded storage, unless you store a lot of photos and videos within your Google account. In that case, you'll need to upgrade. While you can store up to 15GB for free, the paid tiers start at $2/month for 100GB and go up from there.

Microsoft Office 365

If you're used to Microsoft Office or your school uses Microsoft products exclusively, then you can grab Microsoft Office on your iPad This app contains Word, PowerPoint, and Excel in one app, but you can also grab them individually on the App Store as well.

With the Microsoft Office app, you get Word, PowerPoint, and Excel in one place. You can create, edit, and even collaborate with others in real-time, but a Microsoft 365 subscription may be required to access some premium features. Still, you can use the app to view and create documents without paying anything.

Evernote

When it comes to digital note-taking, it's hard to beat Evernote. Not only is it available on iPhone and iPad, but it's also available on Android, PC, and Mac, and the web — so you can access it anywhere.

Evernote lets you create notebooks for easy organization, and notes can consist of plain text, formatted text, web snippets from the clipper, photos, entire web pages, audio — you name it. And the best part is that everything that you put into Evernote becomes searchable, so you can search by keyword to find what you need. There is seamless syncing across all of your devices and while there are paid plans, you should have a good amount of space for free every month.

Microsoft OneNote

For those who are invested in the Microsoft ecosystem, then OneNote is an excellent alternative to Evernote. With OneNote, you can create an unlimited number of digital notebooks for every subject you're taking, and take notes in an organized fashion.

OneNote lets students type out notes, as well as handwrite them in, sketch diagrams, import photos, collaborate with others, and more. There is also a Sticky Notes feature that lets you save notes for easy reference later, and they are synced to all of your devices. You can download OneNote for free and use it with your Microsoft Account or even an account that is assigned to you by your school.

Dropbox

You're bound to end up with a lot of files and documents for school, so you'll want a good cloud storage service. One of our favorites is Dropbox because once you upload your files to Dropbox, you're able to access them on practically any device. Dropbox also has seamless integration with a lot of existing third-party apps as well, giving you a ton of flexibility when it comes to choosing what apps to use to get things done. You can also share files with others quite easily, making this a great tool for collaboration.

Dropbox has a free tier with 2GB of storage, which isn't a lot, but you can get more space with referrals. However, we recommend signing up for one of their tiered plans, which starts at 2TB for $10 a month. Considering the ubiquity and versatility, Dropbox is well worth paying for.

Quizlet

Either you're a flashcards person or you're not, but if you are, step away from those index cards. Save paper and time and create your flashcards on Quizlet. You can create your own custom flashcards or choose from over 500 million pre-made flashcards by students and teachers in many popular fields of study from grade school to grad school. You'll be able to share them easily with your classmates and study groups. 

The app is free to download, but you'll need a Quizlet Plus subscription for the more premium features. For $8/month or $36/year, you'll unlock features such as offline studying and be able to access many more flashcards.

Khan Academy

Enrich your learning in a myriad of subject with Khan Academy. Maybe you need a little help understand certain subject material, or you want to brush up on previously learned material before beginning an advanced class. Perhaps you want to get a taste of a subject before committing to whole semester class on it, or you just have deeper interests that take you beyond your college course's materials. Khan Academy is a free app with no in-app purchases, since a non-profit organization and. Downloading this app a no-brainer. Everyone should have this app on their iPad whether they are a college student or a student of life.

PCalc

Chances are high that you'll be taking a math class of some sort, especially if you're an undergrad. If that's the case, you may want to have a powerful calculator on your iPhone and iPad, and it's hard to beat PCalc.

Netflix might be in the middle of a sticky patch thanks to recent subscriber losses, but it still knows how to make a number one. The latest season of Stranger Things is now streaming and the show's decision to use one particular Kate Bush song has seen it jump to the top of the iTunes charts a massive 37 years after it was first released.

The song, Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God), plays a huge part in one particular episode of the Netflix show's fourth season and continues to be heard throughout. That, it seems, was enough to propel it to the top of the iTunes charts — beating out Lady Gaga and Harry Styles in the process.

Netflix is currently reeling from a loss of 200,000 subscribers during the first quarter of 2022 and is already planning a new ad-based subscription tier in an effort to deal with the plethora of cheaper streaming alternatives that are eating its lunch. Today, Apple released iTunes 12.12.4 on Windows. The new software update addresses some security concerns but does not appear to add any new features. That isn't necessarily surprising since iTunes has technically been a legacy piece of software ever since Apple broke it apart years ago into the Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV app on the Mac.

According to the Apple Support document that was published earlier today, the software updates offers security updates in the following areas:

• AppleGraphicsControl
• ImageIO
• iTunes
• Mobile Device Service
• WebKit

Apple says that all of the updates are only valid for Windows 10 and later versions of the operating system. The update from today is only needed for iTunes on Windows. The Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV apps for macOS do not currently have new versions for users to download.

iTunes hasn't existed on the Mac for a few years now since Apple separated it into three different apps for music, podcasts, and TV. While Apple has supported iTunes on Windows since then, Apple will most likely sunset it on Windows as well at some point and bring Apple Music and the other apps to the operating system.

The steps to cancel subscriptions are different depending on what Apple device you're using. Here's what you need to do to cancel subscriptions from your best iPhone.

1. Launch the Settings app.
2. Tap Tap on your name.
3. Select Subscriptions. You might need to log in to your Apple ID at this point if you haven't logged in recently.

4. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
5. Select Cancel Subscription.

1. Open the App Store on your Mac.
2. Click on your Profile in the bottom-left corner of the App Store window.

4. Click on Manage under the Subscriptions section.
5. Click on Edit next to the subscription you want to cancel.

How to resubscribe to a service you canceled

Decided that you wanna give Apple Arcade or one of the many other subscriptions another go after canceling it? Apple keeps your past subscriptions on record, so you can always re-add them at a later time (if still available).

1. Launch the Settings app.
2. Tap App Store.
3. Tap on your Apple ID.

4. Tap Manage when the pop up window appears.
5. Enter your Apple ID password or fingerprint ID when prompted.
6. Tap Subscriptions.

7. Scroll down to Expired.
8. Tap the Subscription you want to renew.
9. Tap the payment option for which you want to resubscribe.
10. Enter your Apple ID password or fingerprint ID when prompted.

When you resubscribe, you will be charged the payment you agreed to and your subscription will automatically renew until you cancel it again.

What to do if you can't cancel your subscription

If you see a subscription in your Active subscriptions listing, but don't see the button to cancel when you tap on it, it means you've already triggered the cancelation but the subscription period hasn't expired yet. You can confirm this by noting the date below the subscription. It will read, Expires [date]. If you were still paying for the subscription, it would read Renews [date] instead.

If you don't see your subscription listed in the Subscription section at all, it means you have to cancel it directly from the source.

For example, Netflix is a monthly subscription service that will not show up on this list. In order to cancel your Netflix account, you have to go to Netflix's website, log in to your account, and cancel your subscription directly.

If you can't seem to cancel an App Store subscription even after waiting beyond a service's subscription period then you should reach out to the company's customer service for additional assistance.

How to create an Apple ID using the Mac Music app

You can create a new Apple ID through the Music app on macOS Monterey on all the best Macs.

1. Launch Music from your Dock or the Finder.
2. Click Account on the toolbar.
3. Select Sign In from the pull-down menu

4. Click Create New Apple ID.
5. Enter your personal information on the Create Apple ID page, including your email and password. Verify your password in the provided box. The email address and password you use will be your Apple ID — don't forget them!
6. Click the checkbox to agree to the terms and conditions (after reading them, of course).
7. Select Continue.

8. Add your personal information, including first name, last name, and birthday.
9. Click Continue.

10. Add your payment information, including payment method, number, expiration date, and security code, and billing name and address. Apple won't charge you. You can also enter NONE as your payment information, bypassing the credit/bank account process.
11. Click Continue.

12. Choose Text Message or Phone Call to use to verify your identify.
13. Add your phone number.
14. Click Continue.

15. Enter the verification code you received from text or phone call.

How to create an Apple ID on the web

If you're on Android or using Windows, this is the best way to create an Apple ID.

1. Visit appleid.apple.com.
2. Click Create Your Apple ID at the bottom.

While streaming music seems to be all the rage these days, nothing really beats actually owning your music. You may have acquired a vast collection of thousands of songs on your MacBook or iPhone over the years, so you definitely want to make sure that you back up your iTunes Library or Music Library, as it's called now in macOS.

Whether you are still listening to your digitally ripped CD collection from high school or streaming the latest hits on Apple Music with iCloud Music Library, you'll want to make sure that everything is backed up and safe. Nothing is worse than losing your favorite tunes because of a mistake. Here are a few different ways to back up your iTunes library.

First, make sure your entire library has been locally downloaded

If you use iCloud Music Library or the iTunes Store, you may have some or all of your music stored in the Cloud. But to truly make sure that your purchased and owned content is backed up, you'll want to download a local copy of all of your music to your Mac.

To download specific items in your iCloud Music Library right now to your Mac's drive, do the following:

1. Launch Music (or iTunes on Mojave and earlier) on your Mac.

2. Find the Artist, Albums, or Songs that you want to download.Tip: In any of these views, you can hit ⌘A to select all.
3. Click the ••• button to bring up a pop-up menu. Alternatively, you can Control-click or use the secondary click you have set up for your mouse or trackpad.
4. Click Download to initiate the download of these items.

And if you want to start automatically downloading everything that you add to your Apple Music library from this point forward, then it's easy peasy! Here's how:

1. Launch Music (or iTunes on macOS Mojave and earlier) on your Mac.

2. Click Music in the menu bar.
3. Click Preferences (or press ⌘, on the keyboard).
4. Make sure you're in the General tab.

5. Click the box for Automatic Downloads to turn it on.

Once that is turned on, any music you add to your Apple Music library will be downloaded automatically to your Mac's hard drive.

How to back up iTunes Library via Time Machine or another backup service

One of the easiest ways to make sure that your iTunes or Music Library is always backed up is to use Time Machine, which is already built-in to your Mac. With this feature enabled, you can automatically back up and restore your Mac with Time Machine and any of the best USB-C external hard drives. The restore functionality lets you jump back in Time Machine's history to retrieve it.

But Time Machine may not be enough. We also recommend having an offsite backup plan for your Mac as well, just in case something like a fire happens, and you lose your external hard drive.

How to manually back up your iTunes library

If you're not employing a Mac-wide backup service (really, though, you should get on that), or if you want to manually back up your iTunes library separately, here's how to go about doing that:

To ensure that all of your iTunes files are in the same place when you make a manual backup, you should first consolidate your iTunes library.

1. Make sure you've downloaded a local copy of your music to your Mac.
2. Launch Music (or iTunes in macOS Mojave or earlier) on your Mac.

3. Click File in the upper left corner of your Mac's screen.
4. Hover your cursor over Library in the drop down menu.
5. Select Organize Library from the secondary menu.

6. Tick the box for Consolidate Files when the Organize Library window appears.
7. Click OK.

This will make a copy of all files in the iTunes media folder, leaving the originals in their current location.

1. If you are using an external hard drive, connect it to your Mac using a USB cable.
2. Click on Finder to open a Finder window.
3. Select your Mac's Hard drive.

4. Click on Music in the sidebar. If Music is not in your sidebar, just drag-and-drop the Music folder to the sidebar.
5. Select the Music folder (or iTunes on macOS Mojave and earlier) and drag that folder to the external hard drive icon on your desktop or copy it to your online backup service.Source: iMore

6. Click Authenticate, if prompted, to give permission to make a copy of the iTunes folder.
7. Enter your administrator password.
8. Click OK.

The copy process will begin. This could take a very long time, depending on how big your Music/iTunes library is. So, sit back, relax, watch a movie, or whatever you do to pass the time.

If you are about to do something wild with your Music or iTunes library and don't have a way to back it up on an external hard drive or online backup service, you can make a temporary backup that you store right on your Mac by duplicating your library. This is, by no means, a solid backup plan, but it can be useful in a pinch.

Note: After making a copy, it is a good idea to move the copied folder to an easy-to-find location that is separate from any folder you plan to make changes to (like the Music folder). This copied folder should be deleted immediately after it is no longer needed because it takes up extra space on your computer's hard drive unnecessarily and could cause confusion with your most current Music or iTunes folder.

1. Click on Finder to open a Finder window.
2. Select your Mac's Hard drive.

3. Click on Music in the sidebar.

4. Right-click or control-click on the Music folder (or iTunes folder if you're still on macOS Mojave or earlier).
5. Select Duplicate from the popup menu.

7. Delete the copied iTunes or Music folder once you no longer need the temporary backup.

Get to backing up

If your iTunes library (found in the Music app is taking up too much space, you can move it off of your local drive and onto an external hard drive without breaking your music collection.

Before you start: Back up your Mac

Before making major changes to your computer, it's always a good idea to back up your data: The best way to back up your Mac is with a Time Machine routine in place, but you can choose an alternate backup option that's right for you.

What you will need

You will, of course, need the computer your iTunes library is currently on. You will also need the following:

• An external hard drive (and power source, if applicable)
• A USB cable to connect the hard drive to your original Mac
• A power source for your original Mac
• If you're moving to a new computer, your new Mac (and its power cable)

Step 1: Consolidate your library

Over time, it's easy for your music, movies, apps, and other iTunes content to end up stored in various places throughout your computer's hard drive. To ensure that you copy everything from iTunes over to an external hard drive, you should first consolidate your library. Even if you think your library has all your information consolidated already, it can't hurt to do a manual check before moving any data.

1. Launch the Music app on your Mac.
2. Click File in the upper left corner of your Mac's screen.
3. Choose Library in the dropdown menu.
4. Select Organize Library from the secondary menu.

5. Tick the box for Consolidate Files in the window that appears.
6. Click OK.

This process makes a copy of all files in the iTunes media folder and leaves the original files in their current location.

Step 2: Move your iTunes Library to an external hard drive

1. Quit the Music app on your Mac.
2. Connect your external hard drive to your computer using a USB cable.
3. Click on Finder and highlight the external hard drive. In the example, it's called Music.
4. In a separate window, select your Mac's hard drive.
5. Click on the Music folder.

6. Select iTunes and drag it to the external hard drive.
7. Click Authenticate when prompted to permit to move the iTunes folder, if applicable.

This process could take a while, depending on your iTunes Music library's size on your Mac.

Step 3: Redirect iTunes to the new location

Once you've transferred a copy of your iTunes library onto an external hard drive, you will need to set a new path for the Music app by redirecting it to search the external hard drive for content rather than your local drive.

1. Launch Music and hold down the Option Key at the same time.
2. Click on Choose Library when the window appears.
3. Select your external hard drive under Devices in the Finder sidebar.
4. Click on iTunes.
5. Select Choose.

6. Select iTunes Library.itl.
7. Click Choose.
8. Add a name for your file next to Save As.
9. Click Save.

Note: Until you delete the iTunes file on your local hard drive, you can switch which libraries iTunes uses by launching the app and holding down the Option key simultaneously.

Step 4: Make sure it worked

If you performed the first three steps correctly, it should look the same as it did before when you open iTunes. You can double-check to make sure the migration worked by checking the info of any content.

1. Launch the Music app.
2. Select a song, podcast, movie, app, or other content.
3. Right-click or Control-click on the song.
4. Select Get info from the drop-down menu.

5. Click on the File tab in the info window.
6. Look under Location to ensure that the content is now being stored under /Volumes/external hard drive name/... instead of Users/local hard drive name/...
7. Choose OK to exit the window.

Step 5: Delete the old iTunes library

Once you have transferred a copy of your iTunes library onto an external hard drive and redirected iTunes to the new location, you can delete the iTunes folder on your local hard drive, freeing up space on your Mac.

Note: If you are making a copy to transfer to a new computer, you don't need to perform step 5 unless you want to remove your iTunes library from the old computer.

1. Quit the Music app.
2. Click on Finder to open a Finder window.
3. Select your Mac's hard drive.
4. Click on the Music folder.
5. Select iTunes and drag it to the trash.

Make sure your external hard drive is connected to your Mac when you launch iTunes from now on. Otherwise, iTunes won't be able to find the files. If that happens, quit iTunes, connect your external hard drive to your computer, and reopen iTunes.

Step 6 (optional): Move your iTunes library to a new Mac

Once you have your iTunes library on an external hard drive, you can relocate it to a new Mac.

1. Quit the Music app on your new Mac.
2. Connect your external hard drive to your new Mac using a USB cable.
3. Open the external hard drive once it appears on your new Mac's screen.
4. Click on Finder on your new Mac to open a Finder window.
5. Select your new Mac's hard drive.
6. Click on the Music folder.
7. Drag the iTunes folder from your external hard drive into the Music folder on your new Mac.

Finally, redirect:

1. Launch Music and hold down the Option Key at the same time.
2. Click on Choose Library when the window appears.
3. Select your external hard drive under Devices in the Finder sidebar.
4. Click on iTunes.
5. Select Choose.

6. Select iTunes Library.itl.
7. Click Choose.
8. Add a name for your file next to Save As.
9. Click Save.

• Disney has begun offering its movies in 4K HDR on iTunes.
• The company began rolling out the higher quality versions of its films today.
• Customers who already purchased a Disney film will be upgraded to 4K HDR if available.

Reported by 9to5Mac, Disney is finally offering its movies in 4K and 4K HDR through iTunes. For films that support it, Disney is also rolling out support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Users with access to Disney movies through Vudu and Disney+ have had access to the higher quality on the Apple TV 4K already, but anyone who has Disney films through iTunes will now benefit as well. As Apple does with all of its iTunes films and TV shows, it appears that if you already own a Disney film through iTunes, you will be automatically upgraded to the 4K HDR version.

The rollout is happening right now and appears to cover a bunch of different content that Disney oversees like Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars.

According to the report, only users in some countries are reporting the changes, so the deal between Apple and Disney could be limited to certain regions.

• Not all Disney movies are in 4K. Yet.

More than a year ago we saw signs that 4K Disney movies were coming to iTunes. Today, they actually are. We've seen 4K movies appear in the TV app and iTunes in the UK, Canada, and the United States.

So far it doesn't appear that everyone is seeing these 4K movies, or indeed that all Disney movies are available in 4K just yet. As an example, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" is in 4K, but "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is not.

Those movies that do support 4K appear to offer Dolby Vision as well, giving viewers the best possible image where available.

I'd suspect that Apple is still updating the files on its servers to support the 4K versions of the movies that are still only available in 1080p. As an example, Black Panther isn't available in 4K just yet – I'll be keeping my eyes on that one in particular!

Until now, anyone wanting to watch Disney movies in 4K HDR needed either Vudu or Disney+ to get in on the act. That's now changing.

I first spotted that some people were seeing 4K Disney movies over in the Movies Anywhere subreddit and Twitter seems to be lighting up, too. Whatever's going on – it's no accident!

Your most anticipated movies may start to come to iTunes a lot faster.

Reported by The Wall Street Journal (via MacRumors), AMC Theaters and Universal Pictures have reached a deal that will allow films released in theaters to come to digital services like iTunes just 17 days after release. Previously, films had to stay in theaters for at least 75 days before becoming available on streaming services.

After Universal Pictures saw a major success with the digital-only release of "Trolls World Tour", AMC Theaters threatened to never show Universal films in its locations if the company continued to release films that way. This led to discussions which resulted in an agreement to shorten the theatrical release window.

The deal between the two companies, according to The Wall Street Journal, could result in similar deals between other companies to bring titles to digital release earlier.

Currently, most films are seeing delays due to the pandemic. If more deals like the one between Universal and AMC happen, we could hopefully see some of these new movies hit the small screen sooner than later.

iTunes makes it easy to have a local backup of an iOS device on a machine you control. But those backups can take up precious space, especially if you have more than one. Good news then that iTunes lets you delete your excess backups reasonably quickly. You can also get rid of unnecessary iOS software updates after you've used them, as well, which should also free up a little bit of room.

iTunes as we've known it has split up into multiple apps in macOS Catalina, and the iPhone and iPad backup and update capabilities have made their way to the Finder. Here's how to delete a backup through the Finder on macOS Catalina.

1. Click on the Finder icon in the Dock.
2. Click on your iPhone or iPad in the sidebar.

3. Click Manage Backups...
4. Click on the backup that you want to delete.

5. Click Delete Backup.
6. Click Delete.

1. Open iTunes from your Dock or Applications folder.
2. Click iTunes in the Menu bar.

Even though iTunes doesn't exist as its own app in macOS Catalina, you'll still find the Software Update file you want to delete in the iTunes folder in Library, just like you did in previous versions of macOS.

3. Hold down the Option key (maybe labeled 'Alt') on your keyboard.
4. Click Library, which should appear when you hold down Option.
5. Open the iTunes folder.

6. Open the iPhone Software Updates folder.
7. Drag the iOS update file to the trash. Its name should end in "Restore.ipsw".

A number of movies have been coming out on digital release early due to theaters being closed worldwide as the coronavirus pandemic continues. This weekend, Disney released 'Onward' to iTunes and Disney+ after only being in theaters for just over two weeks. Universal also released a handful of films including The Invisible Man, The Hunt, and others for rent on iTunes.

On Friday, Variety reported that Paramount would be following suit and is now releasing 'Sonic the Hedgehog' to iTunes and other streaming platforms on March 31st. The film would have only been in its 46th day of theatrical release at that time.

Films normally have a ninety-day window in which they are in theaters before moving on to a digital release, but circumstances have obviously made that impossible for most, if not all, films currently in theaters.

The movie will be available for purchase through iTunes for $19.99 and its already available to preorder on iTunes. This is a nice move by Paramount, as some of the other movies made available for digital release early are priced at the same amount to only rent. The physical Bluray disc will still be released to stores on May 19th.

'Sonic the Hedgehog' has grossed $146 million in the United States and $306 million globally, becoming the highest-grossing video game film in U.S. box office history. If you buy the movie through iTunes, it will be available to stream through Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, Mac, and more.

Apple had launched a huge app sale recently, and now it has turned its eye to iTunes. The company has launched a new, limited-time promotion that discounts a number of movie bundles for all of us who are now practicing social distancing.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread across the world, one of the first businesses to be forced to close is movie theaters. In response to the problem, Universal Pictures is taking an unprecedented step.

As reported by Deadline, NBCUniversal's Universal Pictures will be making its current and future theatrical releases available to rent on streaming services like iTunes by this Friday.

Some of the titles currently in theaters include Blumhouse's "The Invisible Man" and "The Hunt", as well as Focus Features' "Emma". All three films are expected to be available to rent on iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, and more. The company is going even further and plans to release "Trolls World Tour" to both theaters and streaming services on April 10th.

The rentals will be available for 48 hours and are currently expected to cost $19.99. While that is a hefty price for a rental, it is still more affordable than going to the theater and the first time a studio has broken the cinematic window in this way.

Jeff Shell, CEO of NBCUniversal, said in a statement that the company is continuing to monitor the changing landscape and adapting its strategy to best serve its audiences.

No decisions have been made as to what theatrical films will be available for rent on video-on-demand services after "Trolls World Tour" premieres on April 10th.

Apple just launched its latest weekend movie sale on iTunes. Reported by 9to5Toys, the sale is discounting a number of award-winning films in 4K resolution to just $5. Many of these movies normally go for $10 or even upwards of $20, so this sale is bringing some to the lowest prices we've seen yet.

The films featured in the sale vary in the genre as well, offering anything from a tense drama to a heartfelt musical. Below are some of the top films featured in the limited-time sale:

How to manage apps you've given permission to access Apple Music and your music library on Mac

As of iOS 10 and macOS Sierra, Apple implemented a permission requirement for apps that want to access your device's media library. It makes it so we know, and have given express permission, to apps that want to access our Apple Music account, including music activity and media libraries. You can see which apps have permission, and revoke that access at any time in iTunes on the Mac.

1. Launch iTunes on your Mac.
2. Click on Accounts in the app menu in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen.
3. Click on View My Account.
4. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.

5. Click on Manage next to App Permissions.
6. Click on Revoke next to any apps that you no longer want to have access to Apple Music and your music library.

How to change your Apple ID nickname on your Mac

You can change the name that appears when others see when you're reviewing apps and games in iTunes. This does not affect your Apple ID. It is only to change what name the public sees when you're posting reviews.

1. Launch iTunes on your Mac.
2. Click on Accounts in the app menu in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen.
3. Click on View My Account.
4. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.

5. Click on Edit Nickname next to your nickname.
6. Enter a new nickname.
7. Click on Submit.

How to de-authorize devices associated with your Apple Music account on your Mac

You can have up to 10 devices associated with your Apple ID and Apple Music account. You'd be surprised at how fast you get up to 10. If you have an older device that you don't use anymore, you can de-authorize it, clearing up room for a new device you'd like to add.

1. Launch iTunes on your Mac.
2. Click on Accounts in the app menu in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen.
3. Click on Authorizations.
4. Click on Deauthorize this computer.

• Some people haven't received those emails for weeks.
• The strange issue seems to have started around November 1 .

Some App Store and iTunes users are reporting that they are no longer receiving email receipts when they make purchases, according to a thread on Apple's support site (via 9to5Mac).

Apple usually sends emails when someone makes a purchase via the App Store or iTunes, although it sometimes waits and then bundles a few together for billing purposes. However, some people haven't received any email receipts since around November 1.

I haven't been suffering from this issue personally, but my main Apple ID is a UK account. I do have a US Apple ID, and I'm currently waiting for a Disney+ receipt. I'll have to see if it arrives before adding myself to the list of affected parties. And it will be interesting to see if this only affects the US stores, too.

However, if you find yourself in need of a receipt there's a way to get Apple to re-generate one for you.

1. On an iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and tap your name.
2. Tap your Apple ID, followed by "View Apple ID."
3. Scroll down to "Purchase History" and tap it.
4. Find the purchase that you need a receipt for and tap "Total Billed."
5. Tap "Resend" to get anew receipt.

The fact that this workaround works suggests that this is simply an issue with the automatic sending of receipts, rather than them not actually being generated. And of course, Apple continues to charge you regardless.

AMC Entertainment will introduce an online video store today, Oct. 15. The service, AMC Theaters On Demand, was first announced by Adam Aron, AMC's president and chief executive officer, according to The New York Times.

Featuring about 2,000 films for sale or rent at launch, the new service will compete with Apple iTunes, Amazon, and other video-on-demand retailers. Hollywood's five largest film studios are already on board, including Disney, Warner Bros., Universal, Sony, and Paramount.

Ron Sanders, president of worldwide distribution and home entertainment at Warner notes:

Movies, like at other outlets, will cost around $3 to $5.99 to rent and $9.99 to $19.99 to buy.

Studios still make billions on DVD sales. However, most of the profit now comes from digital downloads and rentals. As Aron explains, "Our theater business is mature. There is a high-growth opportunity in this digital expansion."

AMC Entertainment is the largest multiplex operator in the world and the first major exhibitor in the United States to offer a video-on-demand service. Aron says the project has been in development for more than two years. It was initially supposed to launch in the summer. However, it was put off to "fine-tune the technology and online store design," according to the article.

It hasn't yet been announced when AMC Theaters On Demand will launch.

After 18 years, Apple is finally getting ready to break up iTunes into individual, dedicated apps. While it's hard to imagine iTunes being no more, nixing the app makes a lot of sense with the addition of the dedicated apps for podcasts and video content like TV shows and movies — not to mention the rise in popularity of music streaming on Apple Music. With iTunes going away the question remains, where does all your music, movies, and TV shows go?

Apple's official upcoming changes to iTunes on Mac

Apple's support webpage was updated to include information on the upcoming changes to iTunes on Mac in macOS Catalina. While most of the information is the same as we had previously heard, there a great list of important changes that Apple published.

• Music that you've imported or purchased will be in the new Apple Music app.
• The iTunes Store will still be available to buy music on Mac, iOS, PC, and Apple TV.
• iPhone, iPad, and iPod backup, restore, and syncing will move to Finder.
• Movies and TV shows that you purchased or rented from iTunes will be in the new Apple TV app.
• Use the Apple TV app for Mac for future movie and TV purchases or rentals.
• Podcasts that you subscribed to or added to iTunes will now be in the new Apple Podcasts app.
• Audiobooks that you purchased from iTunes will now be in the updated Apple Books app.
• Use Apple Books for Mac for future audiobook purchases.
• iTunes Gift Cards and iTunes credits will be maintained and can be used with the new apps and the App Store.

Where's your iTunes library in macOS Catalina?

The good news is macOS Catalina should roll your entire iTunes library into the Music app. There you should be able to see any music you've purchased on iTunes, tracks you've ripped from CDs, MP3s you've imported into your library from outside sources, and any other files (like recordings) that you've had in your library. Nothing should be lost, just moved to a new centralized location in Music.

Same goes for your movies and TV shows, but in the TV app. You have a Library section in the TV app on Mac in Catalina that stores all of your purchased movies, ripped DVDs and Blue Ray discs, and movies you downloaded by other means. If it was in iTunes, it's now in the Library section of your TV app.

Syncing your iPhone or iPad to macOS Catalina

In prior versions of macOS, when you'd connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac, iTunes would launch and you could check for updates, sync your information with your Mac, manage your data, and create backups. Instead of doing all this in iTunes, macOS Catalina instead moves this to Finder.

In Finder you'll see your iPhone or iPad pop up in the sidebar when you connect it to your Mac, and when you click on it, you'll see an interface very similar to the one that was in iTunes before. Here you can sync your iPhone or iPad, create backups, manage your data, and all of the other things you used to do through iTunes.

What happens to iTunes on Windows?

iTunes was so popular and big that many people did and still do use it with Windows, so it begs the question how iTunes shutting down in macOS would affect those users using the software on other platforms. According to Ars Technica, they asked Apple at WWDC and there's wasn't a ton of information.

It appears for right now, iTunes in Windows will remain unaffected, but there's no clear indication of how long iTunes will continue to be supported on other platforms, now that Apple has decided to kill off the program for its own operating system.

When Apple redesigned the iPhone and iPad's Music app to focus on your music collection, iCloud Music Library, and Apple Music, it removed all traces of a previously-highly-placed item: iTunes. Yes, streaming music is all the rage, and for good reason — with offline play and customized playlists, your music library is bigger and more interesting than ever before. But if you still like occasionally owning music, the iTunes app is where you'll do your purchasing.

One frustrating side-effect of this change: It's now much more difficult to buy a song you've found and love on Apple Music. There's no direct way to "Open in iTunes," even if a song or album isn't supported in Apple Music at all. (I see you, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1.) Instead, when you stumble across non-streamable media in the Music app, you'll be greeted with a depressing alert informing you of its unavailability on your device.

Unfortunately, it seems that Apple has changed the way iTunes music links work on iOS. In an effort to push Apple Music, all iTunes links (including those you change manually from Apple Music to include &app=iTunes at the end of the URL) will take you back to the song or album on Apple Music, instead of iTunes. The &app=iTunes URL trick seems to still work on the desktop version of iTunes, however, but if you want to purchase a song you like on Apple Music on your iPhone or iPad, it's a bit more of a tedious affair. In fact, it seems that the only way to do so is to manually search for what you're looking for and then purchase it.

How to buy a song you like from Apple Music in the iTunes Store on iPhone and iPad

1. Launch the iTunes Store app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Either browse the store's Featured or Charts sections, or tap on Search for something specific.

3. When you view an album, you can tap on the price to purchase either the entire album or an individual song.
4. Confirm your purchase.

If you find it hard to remember what you like in Apple Music that you want to purchase later, try creating a playlist for "Songs to Buy" or something like that to help you remember what to look for.

Thanks to Apple's Up Next queue, it's easier than ever to check what tunes are coming up on the Music app. When you're in the middle of a playlist or album, you can quickly stack other tracks to listen to right away. You can also adjust the menu on the fly without interrupting your jams! Up Next also keeps track of your play history, whether you're listening to songs from your music collection, Apple Music, Beats 1, or Apple Music radio stations. Here's how you can use it!

How the Up Next queue works

When you launch the Music app on your Apple device and begin playing a song, Up Next creates a queue of songs to follow. It creates a queue of upcoming music based on the source of the original track:

• If you randomly picked a song on shuffle from your library, your Up Next queue will pull from My Music.
• If you're jamming out to an album, Up Next will add the remainder of that album.
• If you're listening to an entire artist's collection, Up Next will pull other songs from that artist.
• If you searched for a specific song, Up Next will repeat that song forever until you tell it otherwise.
• If you're listening to Beats 1 or Apple Music radio, you won't see anything in the Up Next queue.

Your queue can hold hundreds of songs, so don't worry about overloading it, and it will automatically pause if you switch to a non-queue part of Music (Beats 1 or Apple Music radio, for example), to resume when you return to My Music or the Apple Music catalog.

How to view your Up Next queue

You can see what's queued in Up Next at any time by tapping the Up Next button in the Music app for either mobile or Mac.

1. Locate the Mini Player at the bottom of the screen, just above the tab bar.
2. Tap on the Up Next icon at the bottom right of the screen.

How to add music to Up Next

When you add a song to Up Next, you have the choice of either adding it to the top of the queue (it will play after the currently-playing track) or bottom (it will play after everything else in your queue). From there, you can pop into the Up Next queue to adjust further (say, if you want your new song to play after a particular track in your queue).

On your mobile device:

1. Browse to the track, album, or playlist you want to add to Up Next.
2. Tap the More button (looks like •••).
3. Tap Play Next to add the music to the front of your Up Next queue, or Add to Up Next to add the music to the end of the queue.

1. In the Music app, choose the track you want to add to Up Next from your library.
2. Click the More button (looks like •••).
3. Select Play Next to add the music to the front of your Up Next queue, or Add to Up Next to add the music to the end of the queue.

If you find a track, album, or playlist you want to listen to immediately, you can start playing it right away without losing your existing Up Next queue.

1. Find the item you want to listen to immediately.

3. Tap Keep Up Next to preserve your existing queue.

How to rearrange your Up Next queue

Whether you added tracks to Up Next as fast as you could find them, or your mood has changed since you added them, you can easily rearrange their order so you hear exactly what you want, when you want.

1. Go to the Up Next screen.
2. On the Mac, click and hold to select a track; on iPhone, iPad, or iPod, touch and hold the grabber button to the right of the track you want to move.
3. Drag the track to the desired position.

You can reorder tracks as often as you want, and any time the mood strikes you.

How to quickly clear Up Next

If you want to remove everything from your Up Next list all at once, you can easily do that too.

If you add a track to Up Next and later change your mind about that song, it's easy to delete it.

1. Go to the Up Next screen.
2. On your Mac, hover over a track to reveal the Remove button. On iPhone, iPad, or iPod, swipe left on the track to reveal the red Remove button.
3. Click or tap on the Remove button.

If you want to clear your queue entirely, you can do that directly from the Up Next screen, too.

1. Find an item—anything will do.
2. Tap the item to start playing it.
3. Tap Clear Up Next from the menu.

The track, album, or playlist will start and your Up Next list will be completely cleared at the same time.

I'm sure everyone has heard the big macOS Catalina iTunes news by now — as the old saying goes, any app sufficiently old becomes indistinguishable from an email client. Throw in a calendar and web browser and wow, howdy has Apple just absolutely been there, nailed that.

Kidding. It's being broken up. Sundered. But not decimated. Let me explain.

Apple isn't really killing iTunes as much as setting it free. It's as if Voltron had been stuck in its combined form for decades and now, finally, the Lions were being released to do what each can do far better alone. Especially if Voltron had had everything from a trash compactor to literally the kitchen sink welded to it over the years.

Now, before anyone panics, nothing is being deleted. Nothing is being canceled. Apple isn't closing the iTunes Music or Movie or TV Store. Tim Cook isn't coming to your house to delete all your downloads.

Everything you could do in iTunes yesterday you'll still be able to do with macOS tomorrow. And anyone that tries to scare you otherwise, unsubscribe or block their site at local.hosts.

What's happening is this: Apple is deprecating iTunes. They're retiring it. Letting it go off into the country to fish and swim and karaoke and otherwise do whatever it is old apps do when no one needs to launch them anymore.

And then Apple is bringing up some new apps in its place.

Exit iTunes. Enter Music, TV, and Podcasts, and oh, hey, look, Books and Finder with some fresh functionality!

So, immediately, anyone already familiar with how content works on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch will feel right at home with what's happening now on the Mac.

Instead of a single, monolithic, iTunes app to get, keep, and manage everything, Apple's broken things out into separate apps just like they've always been on iOS.

Music for macOS

There's a new Music app that does pretty much everything you'd expect a Music app born of iTunes to do. And yeah, you heard that right. This isn't the iOS Music app catalyzed over to the Mac. This is all the Music stuff from iTunes for Mac cut free and finally left to fly in its own Mac-as-in-AppKit app.

Launch it and you'll find exactly what you'd expect to find: All your Apple Music, if you subscribe, all your iTunes Match music, also if you subscribe, all your music videos — yup, they're in here too, all your existing downloaded and ripped Music, and, of course, the ability to download more from the iTunes Store and rip more from any CD, new or old, convert to AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Wav, and even burn a new, hot CD mix all your own… if you still have a CD Drive.

(Wikipedia it kids, it's listed right after turntable, 8-track, and cassette deck.)

Also, all of your playlists. So. Many. Playlists.

The Apple Music section includes For You, Browse, and Radio, where you can find Beats 1, featured stations, and all the Apple stations. The Library section contains Recently Added, Artists, Albums, Songs, and Music Videos. The Playlist section has all your playlists and the ability to turn on Genius if that floats your machine-learned music boat.

Search also seems to be better, showing you not only suggestions but what items match in which part of your library.

Now, real talk, pretty much everything I went looking for from iTunes I found in Music. So, come this fall, when you update to Catalina, you should find the transition not just easy but totally uneventful in the best possible way.

Like I said, Apple won't be ripping iTunes off anyone's machines. It'll still be there if only to reassure you that you have a safety net in the remote chance you need one. I mean, you can still run iPhoto on Mojave if you really want to, even though you shouldn't, because Apple is super slow and gentle about this stuff. But, my guess is, from the moment you update you'll be able to leave iTunes behind and never look back. Even when, one day, you update to a new Mac and don't even realize iTunes was never installed.

Yeah, all the feels, but like the Ikea lamp, iTunes has no feelings and can't see you crying.

Device Management

You probably noticed I didn't mention device sync anywhere in there. I noticed you noticing. Maybe you noticed that… Anyway, yeah, if you just want to manage your iPhone or iPad manually and over a hardwire, the way Neo and the Matrix intended, or you still have old school iPods knocking around, fret not. All the device backup, update, and restore functionality previously shellacked onto iTunes has now been blessedly moved to where it's always meant to have been — the Finder.

Just plug in and… that's it. No more iTunes popping up all eager on your face or over your desktop. Serenity now and forever more. When and if you want to do something, click the device in the sidebar and get to. The interface looks pretty much the same as it did in iTunes, so there's no getting lost.

Its proper home has just been found.

Books for macOS

Books has gotten another makeover in Catalina, this time to better fold in the Audio Books content that used to live in iTunes.

You've got a new set of tabs up top, including Library for all your stuff, Book Store where you can buy new pages to read, and Audiobook store where you can buy new pages to listen to.

In the Library, the new Sidebar has a listing just for your Audiobooks. In the Audiobook Store, it has listings for featured, top charts, categories, and top authors.

It's everything you'd expect, just all up in its all new home.

Podcasts for macOS

Podcasts has come to the Mac. Hallelujah. If you've used Podcasts on iOS, especially on the iPad, you'll be right at home. Because Apple catalyzed this app from the iPad expressly for the Mac. But it's not a proof of concept like News, Stocks, Voice Memo, or Home were last year. This is using the shiny new version of UIKit on the Mac Apple is releasing as a beta for developers this year. And the maturity and consistency shows. The new UIKit-based Podcasts app is almost indistinguishable from the new AppKit-based Music app.

Top of the sidebar is Apple Podcasts, the service. That includes Listen Now, which has Up Next and Recently Played. There's also Browse, which lets you see the Apple Podcast Editors' picks as well as the categories. 700,000 shows strong, Apple is still the standard when it comes to podcast directories and it's all here for you to find, just like it was in iTunes before. Even Top Charts have made the transition over, though I've only seen the main chart so far, not any category charts. Which is a bummer.

Library has Recently Updated, which are the shows that you subscribe to that have pushed out new episodes in the last little while. There's also Shows, which lists everything you subscribe to in alphabetical order, and Episodes, which does the same but in reverse chronological order. Downloaded contains all the episodes you've recently made local.

Then there are any stations you've added, Family Fun or Comedy or True Crime. Basically talk radio for podcasts.

What's especially cool is the new search feature. Out of nowhere, Apple used machine learning to index the spoken content of podcasts, so you can search for more than just show titles or keywords.

It works pretty well, even if I'm not getting as many Vector results as I'd like.

Yet.

TV for macOS

Also new to the Mac is the TV app. Unlike Podcasts but just like Music, it's a Mac-as-in-AppKit app, but it's designed to bring you everything iOS and tvOS have been enjoying for a while now, even since the big new version launched last spring. More specific to my interests, the TV app, for the first time, lets you watch 4K HDR Dolby ATMOS movies and TV shows on the Mac. Are you feeling me, Netflix? HDR. ATMOS. Mac? You know what you need to do here.

Like the Apple TV version, you have Watch Now, Movies, TV Shows, Sports, Kids, Library, and Search across the top, though in classic Mac toolbar style. The Watch Now tab is supposed to always show you something you're going to want to see, but without making a fussy infinite scroll list out of it. It doesn't include all the updated, Apple TV-style options, though. At least not for me, not right now.

Up next is still first, which, front-loaded, has anything you started but haven't finished. Then, anything new that you typically watch immediately, for example a live sports event or the latest episode of your favorite show or the movie you pre-ordered and has just become available, in reverse chronological order. Because freshness counts here. But there's no What to Watch from the human editors or For You from the machine learning system, though I've seen the first one on some other people's lists. Either way, it doesn't feel like a one-on-one copy of the Apple TV version but something purpose-built for the Mac.

Channels are here too. They vary a lot based on region, with the U.S. having a ton of them and other places relatively few, if any. But I hope they grow because I like them a lot. Since there's no Apple Music for TV, you have to subscribe to a bunch of different services and that creates a lot of overhead.

With Channels, all the subscriptions can be added and managed in one place, all the content seen and viewed in one place, and much of it can even be downloaded for offline viewing, including, for the first time HBO. If only Netflix would smarten and realize that, with frequent price hikes and Disney+ on the horizon, some of our continued subscriptions depend on them learning to play nicely with Channels.

The Movies and TV Shows tabs focus on, surprise surprise, Movies and TV Shows specifically. Everything you've already bought on iTunes, along with anything from the iTunes catalog and anything available from your Channels subscriptions.

If you've previously been hoping between iTunes and HBO or CBS All-Access on the web, the increased convenience is simply terrific. Hear that, Netflix?

The Kids tab isolates out everything safe for your children to watch, organized, categorized, and editorialized. And, unlike YouTube, where a video that looks like a kid's show can end up being something completely different and inappropriate, this is all exactly what it says it is, so you can hit play without that constant sense of panic in the pit of your stomach.

The Library tab, as you probably guessed by now, is where you'll find all your existing and future iTunes Store purchases. You can see Movies or TV Shows, or a time-based Recently Added view.

To be continued...

About the only thing all these new apps still need is Continuity for media. They do sync your state, so whatever you listened to or watched in TV on iOS or Apple TV will be in the same place, at the same place, on your Mac.

But it would be even better if you could just click an icon in the Dock to handoff from another device, or use proximity-based handoff like HomePod is getting. I'd love it if Apple figured that out and soon.

All these new apps are still in beta so I'm going to hold off any judgments on quality or capability, design or implementation until they're ready for primetime.

But, it's already more than easy to see — and say — that pretty much anything you were able to do in iTunes pre-Catalina, you can now do in Music, TV, Podcasts, Books, and Finder in the age of Catalina.

Apple isn't killing iTunes on Monday. Tim Cook isn't coming to your house and deleting all the music and movies you've bought and downloaded over the years. There will be no Thanos snap live on stage. No decimation around the world. None of that is true or real in any true or real way.

So, why are there so many headlines saying iTunes is ending and the age of digital downloads is over? Because, apparently, writers can't read, fact checkers can't check facts, and editors are too busy baiting clicks and not busy enough thinking about the needless stress and anxiety they're causing the audience that relies on their reporting.

Burn iTunes, burn

Nerds have been wanting Apple to tear down iTunes for a decade or more. It's big, it's bloated, and the iPhone has long shown that individual apps for Music, TV, and Podcasts were a better, sleeker, smarter way to go.

What about everyone who just wants to sync their iPad without using iCloud, or rip CDs onto their iPod nano from their Windows PC? Screw 'em. Who cares about their comfort level? iTunes has to burn.

This year, though, there have been credible rumors that Apple is getting ready to do just that. Kinda.

It started, as many things do, with Steven Troughton-Smith on Twitter.

Just a month before, at their March Show Time event, Apple had announced the TV app was coming too macOS, so it made the kind of sense that did.

Then, naturally, it escalated to Gui Rambo at 9to5Mac:

In May, though, Gui followed up on 9to5Mac saying Music wouldn't be a Marzipan app after all. I'll quote this part verbatim since it's important:

Mark Gurman had been saying similar things on Bloomberg as well.

And on Twitter clarified it wouldn't be a Marzipan app.

Then, just yesterday on Bloomberg, and again, I'll quote verbatim because important:

Now here's the LA Times's headline — and, to be 100% crystal clear, the LA Times is only one of the many terrible reports on this circulating today:

And the lede:

Oh, so clever. If only we cared as much about accuracy as cleverness, right?

Why accuracy? Because the report the LA Times cites and links to is Bloomberg's from Yesterday. The one I just quoted verbatim. The one that, if you command or control F and search for iTunes Store or downloads you know what you find? Nothing. Because Gurman didn't mention the store or the downloads. He only mentioned the app.

So, yes, the iTunes app for Mac is likely going to be replace by new Music, TV, and Podcasts apps. Deprecated might even be a better word, at least in the macOS 10.15 beta released to developers on Monday. But that has nothing to do with the iTunes store, potential rebranding to Music Store or whatever aside, or the downloads any of us have in our existing libraries.

Gui Rambo ended his last piece by positing:

When Photos for Mac launched a few years ago, Apple didn't eradicate the old iPhoto app immediately and Tim Cook didn't show up at to your house to delete all your photos off your drives.

The Times even says as much at the very end of its… whatever you want to call this word soup:

Good thing nobody just reads the headline and everybody skips right to the end, right? God.

Even if Apple announces the new apps on Monday, they won't be released to the general public until this fall and it will likely be years until the existing version of iTunes finally stops running on future versions of macOS. Again, if past is prologue and, in these cases, it pretty much always is.

If only because we haven't seen any reports yet of what's going to happen with iTunes for PC, which is a non-insignificant part of the install base.

So, if you've been at all stressed or worried about any of this, please don't be. And please tell your friends and family they don't have to be either. Hell, send them this video if it helps.

Just don't let the Times or anyone else steal your attention. It's our job to inform and empower our audiences, not panic them just for papers or cheap clicks. Because, the facts matter. Even and most especially in the age of clickbait and social, which has become more virus than viral anyway.

On the desktop, changing your iTunes or App Store region is as simple as scrolling down, clicking on the current country flag icon and then choosing a new country flag. On iPhone and iPad, not so much. It's still possible to change store locality, it's just not as easy. If you really want or need to change, here's how!

How to change your local iTunes Store and App Store country

If you're moving or otherwise want to change your iTunes Store and App Store at least semi-permanently, here's what to do.

Note: If you have subscriptions to Apple Music, iTunes Match, or another service attached to your local Apple ID, you'll need to cancel those first, then re-sign after you've switched over.

1. Launch Settings from your Home screen.
2. Tap on iTunes & App Store.
3. Tap on Apple ID.
4. Authenticate with Password or Touch ID, if required.
5. Tap on Country/Region.

6. Tap on Change Country or Region.
7. Choose a new country or region.
8. Tap on Next.
9. Tap on Agree to consent to the terms and conditions.
10. Enter your payment details.
11. Enter your billing information.
12. Tap Next.

You'll now be set up in your new country and ready to go.

Of course, most people don't want to change countries as much as they want to switch back-and-forth between them. That's especially true of people outside the U.S. who often want to get their digital hands on the more plentiful content available inside...

How to switch between multiple iTunes or App Store countries

If what you really want to do is jump into the U.S. store — or another regional store — to grab an app, game, show, movie, etc. that's simply not available in your store, you can do that too. First, you need to log out of your current regional iTunes or App Store:

1. Launch App Store from your Home screen.
2. Tap on Apple ID: [your current email] at the very bottom.
3. Tap on Sign Out.

Next, you need to change the region on your iPhone or iPad:

1. Launch Settings from your Home screen.
2. Tap on General.
3. Tap on Language & Region near the bottom.
4. Tap on Region
5. Check off the new country you want to access (for example, Unites States).

Now, you need to create the new account for the new store you want to access. For that you need to find a *free** app that's only available in the U.S. store (or only available in the store you want to switch to). Network TV apps are often the best choice. I'll use Hulu, the U.S. streaming service, for this example.

1. Go to the Hulu listing on the App Store on your iPhone or iPad. (Tap that link!)
2. Tap Change Store if it stays stuck on your old region and says the item isn't available in the current store.
3. Go to the Hulu listing on the App Store again if it gets stuck on the feature page.
4. Tap Get.

5. Tap Install.
6. Tap Create New Apple ID.
7. Check United States if it isn't already checked.
8. Fill out the required information.

9. Tap None for billing information. You can get away with that for a free app, and you can always buy U.S. iTunes gift cards later if you want to purchase other content from the store.
10. Launch Mail to verify the email address you used for the U.S. account.

Finally, download Hulu (or your region-specific app of choice):

1. Go to the Hulu listing on the App Store on your iPhone or iPad. (Tap that link!)
2. Tap Get.
3. Tap Install.
4. Login to your new U.S. iTunes Account if you aren't already logged in.
5. Repeat the Get and Install steps if you have to.

That should start your Hulu download and, with it, your switch to the U.S. Store.

From this point on, you should be able to switch stores simply by logging into and out of your iTunes or App Store account for the appropriate region. You can then tap on your favorite region-exclusive app to high-tail it back into the proper store. (Bookmark 'em to make it fast and easy.)

I'm always looking for ways to use the Wallet app on my iPhone. It's a huge convenience (and often more secure) to have things like credit cards, ATM cards, hotel membership accounts, tickets, and other passes just a tap away.

In 2014, Apple rolled out iTunes Pass, which can be used as store credit to pay for content from the App Store, iTunes Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store through your Apple ID. The iTunes Pass is contained in the Wallet app on iPhone, iPod Touch, and Apple Watch and is an easy way to see how much of a credit your account has. Here's how to create and use one!

How to create an iTunes Pass

1. On your iPhone or iPod Touch, tap iTunes Store.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the Music, Movies, or TV Shows tab and tap your Apple ID.
3. Tap View Apple ID and authenticate your Apple ID if prompted.

4. Tap Add iTunes Pass to Wallet.
5. Tap Add.

The iTunes Pass will appear in your Wallet. If you have a credit on your iTunes Pass, then any charges to your Apple ID will be deducted from the Pass.

Add a physical gift card to an iTunes Pass

In addition to adding money to an iTunes Pass at most Apple retail stores, you can add the value of an iTunes or App Store gift card to your iTunes Pass.

1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, tap App Store.
2. Tap Today.
3. Tap your photo or the silhouette icon.

4. Tap Redeem Gift Card or Code.
5. Tap Use Camera to scan the card or tap You can also enter your code manually.
6. If you enter the code manually, type the code that appears on the back of the card.

7. Tap Redeem.
8. Tap Done.

Add an emailed gift card to an iTunes Pass

You might receive an iTunes and App Store gift card via email. These can also be added to your iTunes Pass.

1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, tap Mail.
2. Tap your inbox.
3. Tap the email message containing the gift card.

4. Tap Redeem Now.
5. Enter your Apple ID password.
6. Tap Sign In.

Update: Apple's system status page has officially changed the status of the App Store, iTunes Store, and all other involved services from "Issue" to "Outage."

Can't get any of your downloads to work? You aren't the only one. According to Apple's system status page, the App Store is experiencing some issues and is down for some users. The problem has persisted for approximately an hour now, and also extends to the iTunes Store, the iBooks Store, Apple TV, iTunes U, Volume Purchase Program, and the Mac App Store.

When affected users attempt to make a purchase on iTunes, they receive an error pop-up that reads "The iTunes Store is unable to process purchases at this time. Please try again later." When trying to access the App Store, they'll simply see a page that says "Cannot Connect to App Store" with a "Retry" button underneath.

It's likely that these server issues are being caused by high traffic in response to Apple's education event that took place this morning. New versions of Apple's iWork suite, Garageband, and Clips were announced, so it seems everyone is scrambling to download the updates all at once.

Though the problem hasn't been fixed yet, we'll update this article letting you know when everything is functioning properly again.

According to a support document recently published by Apple, the company will soon be introducing security changes that will prevent Windows XP or Vista PCs and first generation Apple TVs from using the iTunes Store. The changes will be implemented starting May 25, so if you're still using PCs running those operating systems or you've been holding onto your old Apple TV until you've gotten all the use out of it you can, now may be the time to upgrade if you want to continue using the latest version of iTunes.

The reason for the upgrade is essentially to cycle out tech considered to be out of date. Windows XP and Vista are no longer supported by Microsoft at all, and Apple TV (1st generation) is considered to be an "obsolete" device by Apple itself (meaning it will not be updated to support iTunes — or any other — security or software changes).

If you absolutely have to hang on to your old PC for the time being, you can still continue to use previous versions of iTunes on both Windows XP and Vista without support or further updates from Apple. That being said, you won't be able to make any new purchases from the iTunes Store (so no more new movies, albums or TV shows), nor will you be able to re-download previous purchases from other devices on that particular computer. Once May 25 rolls around, you'll need to use at least Windows 7 in order to access the latest version of iTunes or purchase any new content from the iTunes Store. The same goes for Apple TV — after May 25, only second generation Apple TVs or later will be able to run iTunes.

1. Open iTunes from Applications folder or Dock.
2. Click Store.

3. Choose Music or TV Shows from the drop-down menu in the left-hand corner.
4. Click Complete My Album or Complete My Season under Quick Links in the Store, depending on which store (music or TV) you're in.

5. Select the album or TV show that you want to complete.
6. Click the Buy button, which will show an adjusted price based on what you already own from a particular season or album.

2. Tap Search.
3. Search for the album or show you want to complete.

6. Confirm the purchase.

Stop me if you've heard this one before: you open iTunes, find an album in your library that you want to download, and then...it doesn't happen. This common problem can impact any kind of iTunes download, including movies and TV episodes.

There are some steps you can take to get your downloads back on track. Here they are.

What's probably going on

Generally speaking, when you're having trouble downloading from iTunes, there's some kind of issue with your internet connection. Ch go to make sure you are connected to the internet by heading to the iTunes Store or trying a website in your browser of choice.

If it's not your internet connection, there could be something wrong with the iTunes Store or Apple Music. Check Apple's System Status page to see if there any disruptions in the services you're trying to use.

Apple also suggests the following circumstances under which downloading my have stopped:

• iTunes quit before the download finished
• Your computer restarted during a download
• Your internet connection was too slow
• Another application, such as third-party security software or a firewall, blocked the download

If you're internet connection is up and running, and iTunes and Apple Music are still working, check to see if one of these issues is preventing or stopping your downloads.

How to troubleshoot iTunes Store download problems on your Mac

If things are otherwise working as they out to, you can ask iTunes to check for any downloads that might be available to you.

1. Open iTunes from your dock or Applications folder.
2. Click Account from the Menu bar.

3. Click Check for Available Downloads.

4. Enter your password if prompted to do so.

If there are any purchases that haven't been downloaded that should have been, those downloads will start automatically at this point.

What else you can do

If you're still having problems getting your downloads started, try restarting your computer (have you tried turning it off and on again?) Personally, I find that this fixes the majority of small problems that I face. Also make sure that you're using the latest versions of macOS and iTunes

Unfortunately, divorce is a part of life for many. Sometimes marriages don't work out, or something drives you apart. At some point in the process comes dividing assets. But in this world of digital content, how do you split that stuff up? How do you, for instance, split up an iTunes library?

Luckily, there are steps you can take to split up at least some of your library. Here's what you can do when it comes time to divvy up your iTunes content.

The first steps

If your ex is going to continue using the iTunes account that the two of you shared, you'll want to follow these steps to get set up with a new account.

First things first, you'll need to get a new Apple ID, which you'll use to login to iTunes and make purchases through the iTunes Store.

You might also need to remove the old Apple ID you and your ex shared from your devices. This prevents things like their messages ending up on your iPhone or iPad.

If you're leaving a computer behind for someone else to use, but are planning to wipe it clean and move your iTunes library to a new computer, you might want to move that library to an external drive.

Splitting up your music

Even if your old Apple ID was used to purchase music from iTunes, you can still transfer it over to your new Apple ID, though you'll have to do a little work with an external hard drive. You'll also want to sign up for iTunes Match, a service that Apple provides that transfers any music you might have, regardless of origin, to your iTunes account's iCloud Music Library. This lets you download these songs on all of the devices on which you've signed in with your new Apple ID as if you purchased them yourself.

Of course, you'll actually need to copy your iTunes files to a new Mac using an external drive of some kind. Here's how.

1. Connect your external drive to the computer you're moving the files from.
2. Click the Finder icon in the dock to open a new Finder window.
3. Click Music.

4. Double-click the iTunes folder.
5. Double-click the iTunes Media folder.

6. Double-click the Music folder.
7. Select the folders for the artists or albums that you want to copy over.

8. Click and drag those files over to your external drive. This should only copy the files to the drive, not move them out of the computer's library.
9. Eject the drive from the older Mac.
10. Connect your drive to your new Mac.
11. Click the Finder icon in the dock to open a new Finder window on your new Mac.

12. Click Music.
13. Double-click the iTunes folder.

14. Double-click the iTunes Media folder.
15. Double-click the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.

16. Double-click on your external drive on your desktop.
17. Select the folders for the artists or albums that you want to copy over.

18. Click and drag your files from your drive over to your other Finder window to place them in the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.

Placing items in that folder causes them to, you guessed it, automatically be added to iTunes, with no extra work required on your part. If you're signed in to your iTunes account and have already subscribed to iTunes Match, it will automatically check your music, match those songs with music in iTunes, and add it to your iCloud Music Library. Do note that to keep access to this music, you'll need to remain subscribed to iTunes Match, which will run you $25 per year.

When you're splitting things up in a divorce, you can't always be fair. You can't, for instance, literally split your house in two so you both get half. The same is true for iTunes libraries. While you can transfer music using iTunes Match, that doesn't work for movies and TV shows.

As of right now, there's not a legitimate means of outright transferring TV shows and movies purchased on iTunes from one account to another that lets both accounts keep access to that content. If you're the one creating a new iTunes account, you'll need to re-purchase or re-download any movies and TV shows that you want in your library, unless things between you and your ex are still friendly, in which case you might be more inclined to use Family Sharing.

Maybe you're still on good terms with your ex. Or maybe you share custody of your children. In that case, if you didn't do this while you were still married, you might want to look into setting up Family Sharing.

The folks at Digital Music News have once again picked up the rumor that Apple's iTunes Store is one swan song away from closure. According to confidential sources, the publication claims the service may shut down by 2019; these appear to be the same sources that first spread the rumor back in May of 2016, which prompted Apple PR representative Tom Neumayr to give Recode a definitive "Not true."

9to5Mac received the same "It's not true" earlier on Monday after querying Apple reps about DMN's latest report, to which I say: Is anyone surprised?

Even if this oft-repeated rumor were true, you wouldn't hear it on-record from Apple's PR department: We'd see an official release from the company itself if and when it became necessary to shut down the store.

Regardless, I don't see that happening anytime soon. The iTunes platform may be bloated and confused, but the music store isn't the source of its problems; that has to do with software design and messaging.

Yes, streaming services are by and large how we get our digital audio these days. Whether you're listening to Apple Music or a podcast subscription service like Earwolf, the likelihood that you've purchased recordings of said audio has gone down significantly over the last decade.

But even if purchase numbers drop to nothing, Apple still has next to no incentive to shut down the music store. The company already has the basic infrastructure in place for selling worldwide, and will continue to use it as long as it sells TV shows, films, and ringtones; there's little extra cost to use that platform for music. Bandwidth, too, should be little issue, given that Apple by necessity keeps a repository of digital music for streaming courtesy its iCloud Music Library and iTunes Match service.

The biggest cost Apple might incur in this arena is licensing: We don't know whether Apple is negotiating separate licensing deals for streaming and purchasing with its record labels, or they're decided as one lump contract. If the former, it might behoove the company to find a way to negotiate both at once, but it's also not a deal-breaker.

Because, at the end of the day, the music store generates revenue. It may not generate the behemoth profit it once did, but as long as the music store is still profitable for Apple, it's still worth running.

There's also the consideration of international sales to be had: Many countries have yet to gain access to Apple Music. Without full subscription support, shutting off music sales could rob Apple of a vital toehold in the music industry of that country.

Here's what I think will happen: iTunes, as we know it, is dying. Apple has all but moved away from the "I" branding, and rightfully so. As it evolves in the modern music and television space, Apple needs to build a brand that supports that mission. The iTunes app on the Mac is a mess; the iTunes app on the iPhone has been shunted off to a corner.

I don't see the death of Apple's music store in the next few years. But I can see a day where Apple integrates its existing purchasing services into its streaming options. Stream this album for $9.99 a month, but if you want to own it? Press this button and this track is yours forever. You can see a very primitive version of this in action with Apple's movie rental business: While rentals are time-limited in a way that subscription services are not, it still hooks into two very different frameworks while giving a seamless end-result to users.

Could Apple get rid of music sales someday? Sure. But right now, we've got quite a few more milestones to hit before that's a reality — and I don't see them happening by 2019.

Every year Apple's editors pick the best apps, music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, iBooks, courses, and more to highlight. 2017 is no different. Well, ok, it's a little different. There are all new winners and runners-up, of course, but this year, Apple's team also recognized four breakout app trends for 2017:

1. Thanks to ARKit, augmented reality was literally all up on all our faces. IKEA Place, Insight Heart, and My Very Hungry Caterpillar helped lead the way.
2. Real-time gaming was also real big. That included Clash Royale, Hearthstone's Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion, The Elder Scrolls: Legends, Red Tides, Star Wars: Force Arena, Stormbound, Guns of Boom mixes 3D, and Modern Combat Versus.
3. The conversation around mental health continued to grow, and apps like Headspace and Apple's app of the year, Calm, both stood out. So did Lake: Artists' Coloring Books, Pacifica, and Joyable.
4. Even reading apps went through a mini-revolution, highlighted by Hooked. Choice, Episode, Serial Box Publishing, Bookout, and Blinkist.

macOS High Sierra introduced a bit of a problem for some users that rely on the media keys in the function row of their Mac's keyboard to control playback in iTunes or other media apps. The keys no longer control only these apps, but also video playback in Safari, which can prevent you from playing, pausing, or skipping through music while video is playing in Safari.

A developer, Milan Toth, has devised a solution in the form of a free utility called High Sierra Media Key Enabler. This app puts the media keys back in control of media apps like iTunes and Spotify.

Here's how you can use High Sierra Media Key Enabler to get your Mac's media keys back on track.

How to get your media keys to control iTunes again with High Sierra Media Key Enabler

1. Open Safari or your web browser of choice from your Dock or Applications folder.
2. Head to the High Sierra Media Key Enabler website.

3. Download the app.
4. Open your Downloads folder on your Dock or in Finder.

5. Click the app to open it.

That's all there is to it. Media Key Enabler runs as a little Menu Bar utility. There's nothing to configure, and the only thing you can actually do with the app is quit it. Toth notes that currently, the Media Key Enabler is only compatible with physical keys and not the Touch Bar on newer MacBook Pros.

Not sure which app's playing the audio you're hearing? Here's how to open it from Control Center:

3. Tap the album art (or lack thereof) on the left side of the widget.

If you want to hear a part of the song or podcast that just past or you want to scrub forward to where you left off, here's how!

1. Swipe up from the bottom of your Lock screen or Home screen.
2. Hard press (or long press) the Now Playing widget. It's on the top right of Control Center.
3. Tap and drag the time slider either to the right or left to scrub forward or backward.

How to pause/play playback in Control Center

1. Swipe up from the bottom of your Lock screen or Home screen.
2. Tap the play/pause button on the Now Playing widget on the top right of Control Center.

How to go back, rewind, skip forward, and fast forward in Control Center

You can skip to the next track or go back to the previous track, as well as fast forward and rewind!

1. Swipe up from the bottom of your Lock screen or Home screen.

From here, you can use the forward and backward buttons to skip, fast forward, rewind, or go back to the beginning of a track or to a previous track.

• Tap the forward button to skip to the next track or episode
• Tap and hold on the forward button to fast forward

• Tap the back button to return to the start of the song or episode. If you tap it in the first 3 seconds of that track, it'll automatically go back to the previous track.
• Double-tap the back button to return to the previous track/episode if you've passed the 3-second mark.
• Tap and hold the back button to rewind.

Remember that pressing on either button will simply open the widget from Control Center on devices with 3D Touch.

How to change volume in Control Center

You have two places to change your iPhone's volume in Control Center. Let's go with the quickest and easiest!

1. Swipe up from the bottom of your Lock screen or Home screen to launch Control Center.
2. Tap and slide on the volume slider on the middle right of control center. It's the widget with a speaker on it. Up is louder, down is quieter.

How to AirPlay media from Control Center

You can send audio to any AirPlay-capable device, like your Apple TV or various wireless speakers. Here's how!

1. Launch Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of your screen.
2. Tap the AirPlay button on the Now Playing widget. It's the two "Wi-Fi" bars on the top right of the widget.
3. Tap a device to AirPlay to.

When you want to stop AirPlaying, just tap your iPhone again in that same device menu.

Apple has released a version of iTunes for Volume Purchasing Program (VPP) customers that need to deploy apps within their business through iTunes. This version, iTunes 12.6.3, features support for managing iOS apps within iTunes. As noted by Apple, this version of the app can be installed over a newer version like iTunes 12.7.

It should be noted that Apple will not provide technical support for this version of iTunes. Here's how you go about installing iTunes 12.6.3.

Note: It is not recommended that you install iTunes 12.6.3 on a personal machine if you have already installed iTunes 12.7, as 12.6.3 cannot read an iTunes library from 12.7.

How to install iTunes 12.6.3 on your Mac

1. Head to this support document.
2. Click on the iTunes version that you need to download.
3. Open your Downloads folder on your Dock or in the Finder.

4. Click on the iTunes installation file. On Mac, it should be iTunes 12.6.3.dmg.
5. Double-click on Install iTunes.pkg.

6. Click Continue.
7. Click Continue.

8. Click Install.
9. Click Close.

And that's it. You can now do things like access the App Store for iOS apps, manage downloaded apps for iOS devices, as well as use iTunes to help you deploy apps to your organization.

Along with the release of Apple TV 4K today, Apple updated their movie rental policy to extend the window of time in which rented movies, once started, can be watched. Before the update, U.S. users only had 24 hours to finish watching their chosen film. Now they have a whole 48, during which they can watch their content as many times as they like until it expires. This is a long-awaited and welcome change for iTunes users, considering the 48-hour watch window has been available for quite awhile now in other locations such as the U.K. and Canada.

Like with the old 24-hour window, the 48-hour timer doesn't begin until you have actually started your movie. After you pay for your rental, you have 30 days to begin watching it. After that 30 days is up, if you haven't watched it, you'll have to shell out the cash to rent it over again. This is true even for films you download to watch offline — whether you're connected to Wi-Fi or not, the 48-hour timer will still start as soon as you press play on your selection. After your rental period has ended, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library.

When you ask Siri on Apple TV, she'll respond with a shelf of titles that you can then browse and watch.

Some might call me an app junky, an @appaholik if you will. I love browsing and downloading apps just to check them out. If they're awesome, they stay on my iPhone or iPad. If they don't keep my interest for more than a month, I might move on. It's like record shopping, but for apps.

Almost every day, I spend some time in the App Store in iTunes on my Mac, just browsing what's new and what's hot. I'm window shopping ... looking for something that piques my interest. If I find something, I download it on my iPhone or iPad.

With the update to version 12.7 of iTunes, Apple has completely obliterated iPhone and iPad app shopping on Mac. It's left a hole in my heart and it's not even 24-hours gone yet.

In iTunes 12.7, Apple has removed iOS apps, iTunes U, iBooks, and ringtones, focusing instead on music, movies and TV shows, audiobooks, and podcasts. iTunes 12.7 also adds the social feature we saw in iOS 11. If you haven't been playing with the beta, you can finally join in the reindeer games by setting up your profile on your Mac and following your friends.

Your purchased apps can be found in the App Store on your iPhone or iPad. If you don't see the cloud icon, you may need to sign into the App Store. iTunes U has been folded into Podcasts. Ringtones are available in the Tones section of iTunes on your iPhone. You can find ringtones you've purchased in the Purchased section. You can find your iBooks in the iBooks app on your Mac. The iBooks Store can be found there, as well.

Admittedly, I love the cleanliness of iTunes on the Mac now. It's more focused and doesn't feel like a dump of every service Apple offers. I used to hide most of those services in my menu anyway.

But not the iOS apps. The App Store on iTunes was always at the top of my list. Now, it feels like something is missing, like maybe I accidentally hid the App Store section and I can just unhide it and everything will be OK. But I never find it. The apps never come back. Not in iTunes anyway. Not on my Mac.

I can understand why Apple made the change. My colleague Serenity Caldwell has been outspoken about wishing iTunes on the Mac would get streamlined and that's exactly what Apple did. For all intents and purposes, iTunes on the Mac is definitely a more pleasant experience now.

I imagine that most people don't look for iOS apps on Mac, anyway. I mean, why would you? It used to be that you could download an iOS app onto your Mac and then connect your iPhone or iPad via iTunes and all of those apps would sync to your device. But who connects their iPhone or iPad to their computers anymore (I know, there are still some of us ... me included)?

Shopping for iOS apps on Mac makes so much less sense than just browsing the App Store on iPhone and iPad. Apple probably looked at the numbers and decided that there were too few of us using the App Store on Mac to make it worth the effort to keep it maintained. Totally reasonable decision.

But my heart doesn't use reason. All I see when I open iTunes right now is a hole where my apps used to be (yes, I'm exaggerating my emotions, but you get my point). I know I'll get used to not browsing the iOS App Store on my Mac every day. I can still do so on iPhone and iPad, and with iOS 11, the mobile experience is absolutely wonderful. Heck, I may even switch to browsing the Mac App Store every day instead. That makes more sense.

Ever since I saw Android Central's own Daniel Bader tooling around town wearing a Narrative Clip, I've had the nagging desire to review a wearable camera. But none of the boxy designs on the market has really spoken to me, and as cool as Snapchat's Spectacles are, they have a lot of limitations. What's more, "lifelogging," or the practice of digitally documenting your daily life, hasn't exactly taken the world by storm since it hit the mainstream a few years back.

So I was surprised to find out, earlier this summer, that a company best known for making WiFi routers has waded into the wearable waters to "redefine the camera." The device in question is FrontRow, a pendant that comes across as a blend of pocketwatch and Android Wear wristwatch, but is actually a very sleek – and very pricey – wearable camera. The good thing about subscribing to a streaming service or purchasing digital music is that, for the most part, you can count on the service to provide you with all the necessary (and correct) metadata for a given track. Sometimes, however, things can get wonky and your music can get labeled incorrectly; same goes for ripped music, bootlegs, personal music, and more. If, for whatever reason, your music library falls into disarray, you can fix things up by editing your music's metadata in iTunes on your Mac. Follow along to learn how!

How to edit a song's metadata in iTunes for macOS

1. Launch iTunes.
2. Find the song you want to edit in your iTunes Library.
3. Right-click on the Track Name and click Get Info.

4. Click an option in the window that appears that shows all of the metadata included with the track:
   • Details: The Details tab contains all the basic information about the track — the name of the song, the artist, the year it was published, etc.
   • Artwork: The Artwork tab contains the album artwork associated with the track. If you'd like to change the album artwork, you can drag a new photo onto the Artwork tab to change it.
   • Lyrics: The Lyrics tab contains the song's lyrics. If no lyrics are included, you can add them here.
   • Options: The Options tab lets you change the type of media associated with the track. You can also adjust the song's start and end times, playback details, volume, and change its equalizer options.
   • Sorting: The Sorting tab shows you the info related to how iTunes sorts the track in your music library. If changing metadata in the Details tab doesn't fix your problem, check to make sure the Sorting metadata has been updated.
   • File: The File tab gives you information about the file on your computer. It shows you where the file is located on your computer, what kind of file it is, how big it is, etc.

5. Adjust the metadata as needed.
6. Click OK to save your changes or Cancel to cancel your changes.

How to edit an album's metadata in iTunes for macOS

1. Launch iTunes.
2. Find the album you want to edit in your iTunes Library.
3. Right-click on the Album and click Get Info.

4. Click an option in the window that appears that shows all of the metadata included with the album:
   • Details: The Details tab contains all the basic information about the album — the name of the album, the artist, the year it was published, etc.
   • Artwork: The Artwork tab contains an image file of the album artwork. If you'd like to change the album artwork, you can drag a new photo onto the Artwork tab to change it.

Note: Adjusting an album's metadata will also adjust the metadata of any tracks within that album. While it can help you quickly address an organizational issue, it can also make potentially unwanted sweeping changes.

Apple has posted its Report on Government and Private Party Requests for Customer Information for the second half of 2016.

The TL;DR of it is that demands on the data being stored on our iPhones, iPads, and Macs are, unsurprisingly, up.

In this context, it's important to remember that while Apple protects messages and other personal data with end-to-end encryption, Apple has to turn over iCloud backups when and if required to do so by law.

If your primary concern is convenience and data retention — you never want to lose a family photo, for example — then there's nothing new here. Keep doing what you're doing, backup to iCloud and keep unencrypted, easily recoverable backups of your Mac, unless and until your priorities change.

If your primary concern is data protection, though — you never want anyone else, including a government agency, to access your information — then skip iCloud backups and do an old-school iTunes backup and local Mac backup. And make sure it's all encrypted. Even if that means you might lose keys or not be able to recover damaged drives.

That, and join me in hoping Apple provides a way for expert users and privacy advocates to encrypt backups in such a way that absolutely no one else can ever access them. Even if it takes jumping through some initial set-up hoops, and is fail secure rather than fail safe.

That no only protects us against the abuse of privacy but hackers who get their hands on the tools used to abuse our data or the data itself once it's been demanded.

App Analytics are a feature of Apple's iTunes Connect suite of developer tools that provide information to developers about how people interact with their apps. They include data about app engagement, how your marketing campaigns perform, where people discover your app, and more.

What's new with App Analytics?

Apple has just added a couple of metrics to offer developers more data on discovery of their apps. In particular, developers can now see how many users discovered their apps while using the App Store. This includes discovery during simple browsing, discovery from search, and tapping on App Store Search Ads.

Apple also added data about app downloads that come from referrals. So you can now see how many people clicked a link to your app on a website, or from within another app. This allows you to better craft your marketing campaigns to sources that drive more app downloads.

Back up a second. What are App Analytics?

In iTunes Connect, developers of apps sold on Apple's App Stores can see different metrics regarding their apps using Apple's App Analytics tools. The tools Apple provides allow developers measure engagement with their app, manage app marketing campaigns, and more.

Analytics offer data breakdowns by by metrics like platform, date, and country.

What sort of data is measured in App Analytics?

iTunes Connect App Analytics offer data on the following points:

• App Store sources: See how many people discovered your app while using the App Store.
• App referrers: See which apps are driving downloads for your apps.
• Web referrers: Find out which blogs, websites, and other online sources drive downloads for your apps.
• Marketing campaigns: See the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns, and create links for each campaign to gain even greater insight.

If I'm a developer, how can I see data from App Analytics?

You'll find data for your apps, along with a number of other tools, at iTunes Connect. You'll just need to sign in with your developer account.

Note that in order see any analytic data, you'll need at least one approved version of your app, and deleted apps don't appear on your dashboard.

If I'm a customer, can developers see my data?

No data is given to developers by Apple that makes customers personally identifiable.

Can customers see any data from App Analytics?

No. Data from App Analytics is for the developer only, and other developers, as well as customers, are unable to see this data without the developer in questions sharing it themselves.
