Speaking with Re/Code, Nair emphasized that Ford is approaching CarPlay integration in a way that gives consumers choice, looking for ways to make its own SYNC infotainment system work closely with third-party offerings. From Re/Code:

Ford will look for ways SYNC can work more closely with the systems from Google and Apple. If a customer wants to use, say, Google's maps but listen to Sirius radio through SYNC, Ford will make that possible, Nair said.

Additionally, Nair points out that Ford is taking consumer choice into consideration as well:

"We want to make sure you are not pushed into a decision on a $40,000 car based on your $200 smartphone," Nair said.

While Ford has been listed as a CarPlay partner since the service's announcement, we've had little in the way of details on how it plans to integrate the service. Given the car-maker's long history with its own SYNC platform, it makes sense that the company would want to leverage Apple's offering in a way that would complement its own.
